@DAK Surfacing Lmao im glad people are roasting this guy..600 invested today 2800 in my pocket with another 2800 in my pocket tomorrow. Yes stay away from this buisness
Well...for those who think he is trying to scare off competition...he is in Detroit, Michigan. The best opportunities would have to be down South or out West where you can work 300 + days a years .
hey appreciate your videos man i just recently got into the asphalt business running dumptrucks for a company and i genuinely enjoy it! Im a cdl driver but i want to learn all about how to pave and how to operate all the machines!
I feel you DAVE... I own many farms , yeah its alot diff than your buisness but weather is a pain in the ass here too........ Hoping you find strength and strive...........
Its always funny, telling people to stay away from something, that they themselves have chosen to stay in. Sends a strong message. Do as I say, not as I do.
*_Dave Strand, hope you have an incredible season. It sure is going to be an extremely busy one from the looks of it. There aren't many large capital projects taking place but there sure is a lot of cost effective asphalt maintenance happening that also enhances the curb appeal. Wishing everyone an amazing season! Let's crush it!_*
@@Lonbites I spent $1100 on the parts engine and pump, then built a trailer to pull it. Mind you the trailer has to be very sturdy to carry all the weight. I use a 275 gallon tote. Professional sealcoaters laughed at it, But hey I made $8000 with it in two days
@@highvalleycowboy1 I did do a storage unit lot with it too. Works good you just have to work slower. It don't have the pressure a Air compressor sprayer has.
Hello Dave. I have a problem I hope you can help me with. I have a one-year-old asphalt driveway and just noticed my vehicle has been leaking transmission fluid onto it. I tried removing the spots with Dawn dish detergent, which didn't work, then tried Zep driveway and concrete cleaner, which also didn't work. In two spots, when I flushed with high-pressure garden hose, some of the aggregate came out, and now I have holes about the size of a quarter that will need to be filled. Is there any other method I could try, to remove the fluid stains, and could you possibly recommend something to fill the holes? I would like to fix this so I can get the driveway sealed. Thank you very much for any help you may be able to give me. BTW, Thanks for your youtube videos!
Focus on the Quality of job that I do, And I always have more than enough business. Focus on the doe , never seems to Flow. This was a game changer with type of jobs I choose to take on for the season.
Hi Sir. Question: Do you need to powerwash when sealcoating? Or not needed if just using a backpack blower? I got a quote today from a contractor who just randomly stopped by (who did not seem professional but gave me a low price) tell me that a blower was sufficient and could do my driveway for $1200 and in about 30 mins. I am afraid he is going do inadeqate work and wanted to get your thoughts. Thanks.
It depends where you live at to start your sealcoating business, it’s not everywhere that it aways rains, honestly, checking on the weather before you sealcoat is a NEED, if you don’t your wasting your money on material, so that’s something that wasn’t done. Another thing, You need to be prepared not only for the parking lot / driveway, but also for yourself, gloves, masks, stuff to protect yourself, as long as you don’t get it all over yourself, sealcoating isn’t the only business that’s stressful / harmful,Paving, Roofing, Etc, as long as your careful, and getting up in the morning to work? That’s with every single job, so long story short, sealcoating is a very good business to get into when your young, there’s aways competition with other companies, but if you have to either beat they’re price, or find another driveway / parking lot, that’s absolutely fine, it’s not an extremely easy business, but what job isn’t?
Haven’t you heard of quick dry!! I’m blessed to be in business this business isn’t for the weak minded and no confidence type of people. I make $400k a season and I do demolition in the winter. Hang up your pants chore!! Ima keep getting that bond my friend
Seal coating...we have seals all year long here in Canada. But they are born with coats. In fact here in Canada we don't coat them we de-coat them...if you know what I mean.
Dave Come On Man, I too run my own Sealcoating business in Massachusetts. You are trying to talk your help into starting their own business huh....or you are trying to charge so high with the mandatory press washing that small companies are beating your prices. Dave stop hating and if your business is as great as you say than why make this video? Either downsize your payroll or find better advertising. It soumds like someone has you sour.
Hey I live in New Hampshire I’m looking to get into seal coating next spring, I already own a commercial waterproofing company any pointers for the area? Also this would be new to me any interest in having some free labor for a few days next year?
There is someone who will try and beat your prices but they are then usually working for free. And if you do nothing in your off season then you must be knocking down enough money in the 100 days. The fact is the number of days you can make a million dollars if you choose and if your only working 100 days out the year I hope you do go to work everyday one more thing it is a tough job but your laying around for 5 mos. A yr. So your body should recover and if you got all that time should be reading books and working out to stay fit for your next season.
I've been in the sealing business for 15 years now, and I couldn't agree with him more. You only have a few months to make money, you are a complete slave to the weather, never get a sunny day off in the Summer, and worst of all, the amount of competition that comes and goes every year makes for extremely skinny profit margins. Sealcoating equipment prices have dropped dramatically in recent decades, so now everybody and their uncle is running a part time sealcoating gig only making enough money for a few cases of beer. I highly recommend anyone who wants to start a sealcoating business to look at other options
Chase all the competition away tell everybody how bad it is but you keep doing it don’t you. It’s the best business in the world. Your body is not suffering from asphalt is suffering from lack of maintenance check the mirror out. LOL
My only... And my number 1 reason to not get into the ashphalt seal coating business is because Dave Strand runs the best ashphalt seal coating business in the world!
New sub,, I had a new asphalt driveway put in last year ,, and this year they came back to fill a small crack and a couple small holes .Drive is 60by 10--ft about 600 hundred sq. ft . He said it was time to spray on the sealer . March 17th ,, It's put on hot and dries in 6hrs . I never had it done on my old drive way . He said it cost 1.00 a sq. ft. =$600.00. ((quite expensive )) but seeing it's the beginning of the season the charge is 65cents a sq.ft. .. It supposto make the drive more flexible and block out the U.L.V. rays . Then after no more then two years ,put on a coat of regular sealer like u buy at Ace or Menards or get his ,which is more on the pricy commercial kind . Did u do this first sealer ?
Most seal coaters where Im from work Treese in fall and winter .. And some people pay attention to the weather .. Every thing you do everything you eat everything you dont do or eat or drink is bad for you .. the government is not good for you .. Some people are not happy unless they are moaning and complaining .. This guy sounds like my exmother inlaw or them adults talking in the charley brown cartoon shows .. LOL But yea he is right unless you husseling doors and catch people at the rt time and make a deal he is rite . , many want to wait till fall so the weather will screw it up ..thats their way of getting out of not doing it .. I never had to paint abuilding .. i always used . 1/8ths thick panneling for trim boards or splash boards you drag it along curbs where asphalt and cement meet. And used 1 inch thick foam nap rollers as well . You can do what I did . Drove semi long haul in winter and end of april seal lots and drives .. or stay on welfare as some do and just work for cash .. lol .
You know, everyone says “But you’re in the business?” The man has started a business and built it into a successful, profitable one. He was in too deep to get out long ago. He’s speaking of things he had wished he knew early on. And I bet you if he were to start over from day 1, he would’ve looked into other businesses. Which is what I believe he’s suggesting here.
i make 400 dollars an hour an am my own boss idk how this is bad at all, easily the least labor intensive job ive donw, competition is a thing but the competition has minimums on jobs, and usually wants big jobs. $1200 dollars a day for 3 hours of actual work is amazing dont listen to this guy, there are negatives in every single industry.
