One of my favorite PS2 games. Wish Capcom ports it to other platforms. Would be great to also play it on the Nintendo Switch like RE4, DMC3SE, and Okami.

Just because a game is actually a video game with what was once normal video game design does NOT make it "like dark souls"... it makes it like a video game. This was the era before hyper casualization to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Games weren't movies back then, you had to actually put in work to beat a game.

Fun fact: There is a mod that functions like style-switcher in DMC. As in, tap a button on the d-pad = change all your assigned moves. ;)

I am playing through god hand right now and I would say my biggest problem is the learning curve. It's kind of a hard game to get into for newcomers because of how weird the gameplay is. I found the original dmc to be a much easier game for newcomers. That said, once you get a decent understanding of how the combat works, it becomes really addictive. The combat has loads of depth and customization making it great for repeated playthroughs. I also love the way the difficulty works. It's a really unique kind of adaptive difficulty, something like I've never seen before. Overall, I would say god hand is a one of a kind experience for anyone who likes action games and is willing to be a little patient with some of it's weird quirks.

@@Syy Nah. I like to learn the game on my own, but thanks for the recommendation. I am pretty far into the game anyway. I do find it weird how the game never really explains how the counter hits work considering how vital they are for being good at the game. I learned about the counter hits after watching Turbo button's video.

If you love godhand check out Anarchy Reins. Similar combat, but they took it online. It was a good few months of massive battle arena. Oh and the 1v1 were hype.

The game's combat is awesome, but it has some barebones mechanics, the "god Hand" power-up is quite cheap and shallow - it adds barely nothing to the gameplay outside of a few seconds of free damage on enemies. Anyway, awesome review man, it's always good to see people revisiting this old gem.🐗

I agree that the God Hand powerup could be better, but wouldn't say it's "bad". It's very New Player friendly, and as you get better, you can use it less, especially with the Kick Me Sign challenge.

I actually think that God Hand is the best of the Beat-em-up genre(and a solid competitor from the "character action" one), I just wanted to point out the mediocrity of that specific power-up - it's clearly a noob friendly mechanic, probably a way to give newcomers or casual players a easier time against tougher threats like demons and bosses.

Just feel I need to comment on the some of the jokes. It was a product of its time. I'm sure that if it were made today it would do just fine and still be just as good if not possibly better. Sometimes jokes just don't age well, but that's ok. A modern day version would probably still have gay jokes that would land better today and not lose any of the edge, It's doable. Edit: By the way, I've played it, I was around and aware of it when it first released and I do love the absurdity and goofy nature of the game. I agree that this game deserves recognition.

If any of you truly want Capcom to pay attention to this game ever again here's what you all do get a PS3 buy GOD HAND digitally on the PS Store if enough people actually buy this game like 1-3 million. Capcom will most likely notice that and think about making a sequel or at the very least re-release it on modern consoles and or PC.

Mildly surprised to see a Dark Souls comparison rather than Devil May Cry, particularly seeing as DMC is essentially the originator of God Hand's particular style of action game.

I haven't played DMC, which may be why that comparison wasn't used here. That said, I've absolutely added DMC to my To Play list after playing God Hand.

DMC 3 special edition is the game I'd personally recommend for a first experience in general, as that is not only likely one of the key influences for god hand, but also the game that really nailed that super stylish gameplay. Also its a prequel, so its a decent intro to the characters and story.

You should be fine on difficulty. God Hand is closer to Ninja Gaidens take on difficulty more than Dark Souls. GH & NG are more about execution and mastery whereas the Soulsborne games are more about patience and foreknowledge.

As someone who is part of a few different minorities, racially and in the LGBTQ+ I 150% LOVE this game and take EVERYTHING it says and does as satire, especially of the time. The stereotypes etc are so outlandishly over the top that there is almost no way shape or form that ANY of it was meant to reflect how they actually feel about the various subjects.

Great game. Really underrated. I was kinda thinking "what's wrong with this game" on the first play, but trough an hour it was like a " nah, it's everything ok with this game". Still have disc copy and ps2 for it. I wish to have a fine CRT for ultimate non-inputlag gameplay set for this game.
