I’m not sure how this works in Germany but in Vienna there’s a class called Lehrpraxis (essentially giving lessons). If you are planning to apply and live near the University, you can sign up as a student and get free lessons from a current student under supervision of a professor. This is a great opportunity to get to know a professor before taking the entrance exam. In Vienna they were always looking for students at that advanced level. Just say you’re preparing for the entrance exam.

I know you never read comments but one thing about playing in those practice rooms underground at universities is that it's never fully soundproof (except the very best universities where the rooms themselves are special soundproof cages) and you can hear other pianists or instruments playing in the next room(s). This has an effect on inner ear and ability to focus on your own music, and will make practicing much less enjoyable and limit your progress. It's so much better to play in a location that has no background noise, you've been lucky to have that.

I‘m currently (and for many years now) preparing for my entrance exam. Most universities in Germany differentiate from the beginning (entrance exam) between artistic and pedagogical but Freiburg and Stuttgart. Currently I‘m not so sure if I should prepare further with Brahms first rhapsody or Schumann first sonata first mov. Even though I love the Schumann, I think I can‘t get it up to the expectation till next year‘s exams. But the rhapsody seems to be „too easy“ for the artistic exam compared to what the others play… The constant pressure of not knowing if I‘m good enough really drains a lot some times 😅 And I love how you experiment with the editing and find your own style. Just the sidecards could stay much longer so there‘s enough time to read it.

So where did you become SO fluent in English??? There is just a *trace* of an accent and (only) every now and again you look for an English word... but even native speakers can fail at searching for words. And your playing is magnificent. Few players get to the level of playing that you have risen to. I am an admirer.

I'm just curious as to how many concert pianists find a lucrative career. It seems to be an ocean of great pianists out there. In classical music, it seems to be all about playing some predetermined ideas of interpretation. People routinely argue about what a composer intended or would have wanted, despite being dead for decades or even centuries. I like jazz since it is more about thinking on your feet and using your own ideas.

Simply because there was no Germany at his time. He was born in Salzburg which was the capital of the Archbishopric of Salzburg, an ecclesiastic principality in the Holy Roman Empire. His mother was also from the Salzburg principality, his father from the Free Imperial City of Augsburg. The archduchy of Austria was at this time also part of the Holy Roman Empire. And its capital Vienna at this time the de facto capital city of the Holy Roman Empire (which never had an official capital city). While not all citizens of the HRE were Germans, the ones speaking German as mother tongue usually referred themselvers as Germans. As did Mozart. He described himself as "Teutscher" (German). Not as Salzburger. Nor as Österreicher (Austrian). Applying modern laws he would have Austrian and German citizenship.

I'm studying at a music university here in Germany and I know about a few people who started studying here in their mid to late twenties, even after aquiring a PhD in a completely different field. If your skills are sufficient it's a matter of financial possibilities. I personally study "Schulmusik" though (with a focus on singing), which takes just as long to aquire the Masters and I then I can teach music at public schools and have a safe income. That's also a great alternative because it's still quite challenging to get in but not as competitive and the study programs are great, it's a lot more diverse than the regular studies that focus just on your solo instrument.

how much dorm cost for student in stuttgart per month?
@emilwandel
@emilwandel 10 часов назад
You live privately. The universities don't own dorms, but there dorms owned by a Studentenwerk (students welfare agency). There are not enough dorms for everyone and foreign students have an easier time to get a room. In Germany it is normal to have a single room and share accomodations (kitchen, bathroom, livingroom) with 2-10 students. There are also private Christians dorms, these often also have pianos.

Hi everyone, instead of „instead of“ I would suggest „as well as“. Of course studying music in Germany has a lot of advantages, as the video describes in a very informative way. As a singer or organist e.g. , it might be even more advisable to spend a great portion of your studies here due to the language or the historic instruments. On the other hand, from my own experience, I have to say that I owe so much to my studies in the US- I do not want to miss it! As already mentioned, finding the right teacher is of the highest importance. However, making a living as a professional classical musician might indeed be easiest in german speaking countries, not only for pianists btw.. ( my piano professor in Hamburg studied both in Germany and the US; and at IU Bloomington, one of my professors was born in Magdeburg, Germany , the other had studied with Artur Schnabel in New York and was professor in Frankfurt till 1986 before he went to Bloomington. )
