Have you ever wanted to know what it feels like to PERFORM music? Have you ever imagined yourself as a rockstar, a pop icon, or a rap legend? Do you dream of forming band with your friends to take the stage and bless the crowd with a perfectly executed song???
…yeah, me too. Which is why I’m currently so obsessed with RHYTHM GAMES. More specifically VR rhythm games.
VR has a way of taking almost any flatscreen game and making it 10x better simply through full visual immersion. For example, the critically acclaimed rhythm game THUMPER has a direct VR port, and it’s honestly the best way to play it. I’ve heard the same thing about REZ INFINITE and its VR version. But these are very artistically abstract games that aren’t exactly trying to immerse you in a realistic experience or fantasy.
Which is why I’m so glad I found BANDSPACE. This game brings that fun cooperative band experience into VR, complete with motion controlled instruments, awesome songs and stages, and a crowd that goes wild for you. Seriously, that makes you feel so cool. There are 4 different instruments to play, guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums, each with their own unique control scheme that you’ll have to learn. Oh, and did I mention this game is FREE TO PLAY?
But I also have to take some time to remind you how amazing BEAT SABER still is. That recent Daft Punk DLC pack was all I played for an entire week.
Also, do not miss out on SYNTH RIDERS. I highly recommend the “Experiences” DLC pack because those levels have some of the coolest visuals in all of VR.
UNPLUGGED: AIR GUITAR is one of the most fun uses of VR hand tracking, but can also be played with controllers!
SMASH DRUMS is the last game I checked out but I recommend trying BANDSPACE first as a free alternative!
