I was riding the Indy Mids (inverted kingpin) for a while and had the loose ing issue. I was taking Teflon tape for piping and wrapping it around the thread to make sure they didn’t loosen. A couple months ago I bought the newer Thunder with the IKP. These have been my favorite truck since the moment I put them on. I’m not positive, but I believe they may have more kingpin clearance than the Slappy trucks. Even if they don’t, it’s nearly impossible to hit the kingpin while grinding. Great video by the way. Love all of them.

Indy makes inverted hollow kingpin trucks now. And a standard truck that comes with inverted kingpins also. They recently came out with them.

I have forged titaniums in my 2 skating boards, so loosing those “base plates/weight perks” had kept me from switching to/investing in inverted kingpin baseplates.

Some people also use the kingpin and nut to actually hook and lock into smiths and such easier, makes you able to tell where and how you're locked in, feels "safer" imo

also I dunno about anyone else, but inverteds make a weird "creaking" noise when they turn, i almost feel snaps, and it's not the bushings making squeaks, it's a very different sound.

As someone who’s been skating since 1988, inverted kingpins have never worked. Numerous truck companies have tried. They didn’t work back in the grind king days, and the same issues present themselves in the current range of trucks. It’s just re marketing a a failed gimmick to another generation. It’s the same thing board brands have done with all this impact or breakage “technology” it’s the same old nonsense, chuck some fibreglass somewhere and give it a fancy new name like flight deck or pop secret or whatever. We’ve seen it all before under different name. Funny thing is, we’ve all managed perfectly well for decades with regular trucks and boards, and almost all this so called tech has been tried many times and it never sticks around. Yeah a board will break from time to time, but you may learn to land better, and yes you might stick on a grind occasionally, mainly due to the kingpin being made of steel not aluminium. But when you see the likes of yuto or Nick Matthew’s in particular, sticking dipped smith grinds on venture lows that have very little limping clearance, you realise again that it comes down to technique and skill. I’ve been skating a long time, and worked in the industry for years. Inverted kingpin trucks continue to come and go but they never seem to work and I’ve tried almost ALL of them.
@Scharfster
@Scharfster 15 часов назад
give credit where credit is due, those flight decks are virtually unbreakable under normal circumstances, which is pretty crazy imo

Inverted kingpin is ok for loose trucks. If you like your trucks being tight then forget kingpin as you have less lenght on it to tight. I see you also have fresh bushings. With already used ones it will feel even more loose.
@dubstepbasshead
@dubstepbasshead День назад
They eventually unscrew themselves…I was just on a 2 year inverted kingpin journey… once you find out how to finally get them to stop unscrewing then the metal stretches and you get a harsh click sound while turning…so I’ve resulted to filing down my actual standard kingpin and sanding down my top bushing so the geometry of the bottom bushing 😊

It's hard to find hollow inverted kingpins, which means that only forged base plates and hollow/titanium hangers can make the trucks lighter. I generally like the kingpin clearance and the look of inverted kingpins but it makes Indys too heavy for my taste.

Back in the 90's you could just put the kingpin in upside-down as the base plate was the same hex shape and size as the kingpin nut. Also you can make your bushings smaller for more clearance. Then grind king came out with an Allen key dome shaped king pin, it was probably $6.. none of them came loose because your using the same nyloc nut
