Spot on video. A specific use case. Unless it’s been fixed the time lapse feature on the Canon R cameras won’t work with back button focus enabled, but you can set up a custom mode specifically for time lapse and switch in and out of back button instantly

That's annoying. Each brand seems to have some sort of little quirk like this - with Sony you can't get a custom wb read in memory recall modes, but you can in manual mode!!

I have never used the custom modes. Main reason: I have three cameras Lumix GX9 with one "c" on the dial G80 with c1 and c2 and G9 with c1, c2 and c3.... While on a single camera in isolation, setting up memory modes would be a time saver when needing to act quickly; just as you say. But with different numbers of "c" options on gear then you have to also remember the "c" ("u" on Sony?) settings, set differently, for each camera which sort of defeats the purpose behind memory mode settings. Also my three cameras have different use cases: small gx9 for everyday stills or an unplanned session where portability and weight is key. The G80 is mostly used for video so I could program c1 and c2 for video but the G9 is mostly used for stills where it would make more sense to program c1 c2 c3 for stills. Sorry for the ramble but cannot see how I could explain in fewer words.

Sounds complicated!! I guess I'm lucky to work with just a couple of cameras the majority of the time, and both are set up very similarly. I do have an X100V too, and I've barely touched the memory settings in there!!

For videos makes sense because some relevant songs are only in the menu, but for photos everything is exposed

Seems others have use cases for it if they are shooting different subjects and want to avoid messing with multiple settings.

I hate the Sony implementation, especially for video because custom white balance is locked in to the stored c-setting. WTF! No other brand does this, you want to be able to very easy and fast set your WB at the scene you shoot. So stupid. I use the c-modes: birding, macro, landscape setting

Yeah, I know what you mean - it's really annoying. I tend to get a custom read in manual mode and then plug that into the K setting in my memory mode. Far from ideal.
