As a woman with short hair, I agree that long hair can be more of a hassle than it is worth. My husband and I gave each other buzz cuts during the lock downs and they were so freeing! I don't think I'll ever have long hair again. PS- your blue eyes really POP with the shorter hair!

My hair (I'm female, by the way) is around the level of my shoulder blades. I couldn't imagine it being any shorter; it's always been my ambition to grow it long enough to sit on, but it doesn't grow all that fast and at nearly 70 years old I probably won't live to see it..! But hey, I can dream 💇‍♀

@@TestGearJunkie.Mines close to my hips and I'm pretty sure it's not going to get much longer, even though I'd like it to be. It's just too damaged, I think. I also couldn't imagine my hair shorter than just below my shoulders. When I was 8, I had a bob (my choice at the time, I thought it was a good idea) and hated it within a few days and since then, have refused to even consider getting my hair cut to above my shoulders. I have been tempted to cut it to just below shoulder length to see if I can get it in better condition, but haven't decided to do it yet. I am in my early 20s, so it should have a decent amount of time to grow if I do it.

Hi wig makers! I have a couple questions if you'd be willing to help me out. My husband is growing out his hair to make a wig for me. My hair has been thinning since I was 20. I'm in my early 30's now and one day a year and a half ago, I was feeling particularly self conscious, and my husband said he'd grow his hair out to make a wig in case my hair gets any worse. It was so sweet, and he's been growing his hair ever since. It's about shoulder blade length now. I know it's getting a bit old for him taking care of long hair but he keeps insisting he wants it to be as long as I want it to be. How many inches should we grow it longer than the actual length we want? Also, I've done research since then and read that you need multiple heads of hair to make a wig. If I were to cut mine a similar length would that somehow work? (I'm sure we'll need more than just that too but mine is just probably the easiest next source for us to find.) Mine is very fine and thin and his is very very thick and he has these gorgeous natural ringlets (not fair!). I would probably need to find hair similar to his in texture to make it work right? Also, I understand getting a wig made is very expensive. Is it feasible for a diy or do you know of any places I could potentially go to get it done? Any tips on storing/caring for his hair until we can get one made etc? Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated!! ❤

I had my hair down to my knees (I'm male), and yeah, sometimes it would catch onto things, or I'd accidentally stand on it when getting up off the ground, not to mention I'd have to wrap it around my neck or something when going to the bathroom, but besides loving the way it looks, I loved that it was a style unto itself, so I didn't need to use product or spend time styling it every morning. It's around butt-length now - I had it cut to clean up the ends, and it never grew back. 😭

"Strategy" 🤔 nawh, modern humans, that live in modern ways(hectic & exhaustin', barely time te rest), jus' firgot how te low maintenance care fir hair. Pleats(a single or twin pleats/braids should be treated genderless & aw ages stylin'), hair care products minus fossil fuel derived ingredients(ma hair got less oily, as quickly, so went fae a daily wash te a weekly), cover heid/hair te keep dirt oot/aff it, boar bristle brushes(helps distribute natural & clean oils doon the hairshaft, aye, shaft,,,mind oot the gutter)& those beard combs(basically vikin' combs)help(i find plastic combs & brushes areny the greatest hing, they're better fir shorter length long-ish hair, I find). Either way, long hair is a personal choice. Dae whitever is comfiest. Personally, i prefer long hair 😹 it's like an auld pal. This year, sleepin' is better wi' a silk nightcap & silk pillowslip(but, wi' cotton underside, so it doesny skyte aboot). Mibbe soonds fancy, but, it jus' reduces friction & stuff. Modern fashion is usually detrimental, as it always wants long hair te be loose, an' that's nae guid. Pleats/braids exist in every culture in humanity, as far as i'm aware. It shouldny be limited te wee girls, like the media usually pushes(which, is gender stereotype't & well, possibly racist) It seems men that grow long hair, I've noticed, go through phases of gettin' it really long, gettin' frustrated by it aw, complainin' aboot it, loppin' it aff, regrowin' it, like Groundhog Day 😹 sometimes i hink wimmin keep long hair, usually cause gender stereotypes & usually sharin' info/knowledge mair.

When I had long hair (beyond shoulder length) I used to feel deeply unhappy when having to tie it back into a ponytail to get it out of the way, only for it to feel like my front hair was being torn out. After getting rid of it, it was so nice not to have the feeling of extra weight on my head (which I was unaware of until it was gone), not to mention no longer finding hair everywhere - like in food at home. I used to go to a great barber in Cheltenham who did a combined haircut, hot towel shave, ear/nose burning and scalp/shoulder massage with a choice of single malts - tragically did not survive the lockdown.

Since Ive grown my hair out almost as long as yours, its really desensitized me to getting hair in my mouth, especially while eating. It used to ruin a meal for me. Now its whatever, as long as its mine. Which is easy to tell because 95% of the time its still attached to my head.

I (M) used to have long hair (A bit longer than yours, but not as thick) and I cut it off for my, at the time, partner (I was thinking about cutting it but wasn't 100% on doing it, so it's not that she made/convinced me to cut my hair) and I regretted it shortly after and ever since. My hair now doesn't grow very long and it's really REALLY thin on top so I just shave it every week or so. but cutting my hair was the thing I regret the most, I miss it so much. But I'm glad you enjoy your short hair, you do look (and sound) like you are happier with it short.

@abngng thank you, It's a nice sentiment, but it's not necessary. I don't feel that it was anyone's fault, you can't help the genes you have after all, and I didn't know at the time it wouldn't grow back. I don't think I'll ever feel better about my lack of hair (I'm over the event, just not the effects of the event), It was the main think I felt like was hassle free customisation, and I feel like I'm forced to shave it, else it looks shit. Like I maybe overweight, but through Exercise, Diet, and Will power, I can get into a better shape, (and with ADHD I've not found that easy yet), but expensive medical procedures seem to be the only way to fix a lack of hair. Meh. It is what it is.

Great move with the Charity Donation, good man. Hubnut on YT did the same a few years ago. After you had it cut your London Gezzer accent got stronger. Had long hair years ago, had enough one day, got the clippers and down to the bone. Was a good feeling until I went back to work felling trees the next day and had to put my stinky cold hard hat on. The next ten years down to the bone every month. Now it's once a year.

So interesting to watch this from the male perspective! Especially as the length you started with is almost how long I want mine to be after I cut off 12 inches 😂I had a 'big chop' in 2021 where I also chopped off 12 inches, and can super relate to that feeling of having a literal weight off your head. (and the subconscious movements afterwards where you're trying to move the ghost hair!) Since then, I've accidentally grown it out to waist-length again, so due for another big chop soon to get it to shoulder-blade length (and hopefully before it gets so long I can wipe my butt with my hair...). And thanks for the reminder at the end to make sure I ACTUALLY go the post office this time to donate, instead of misplacing the hair while moving house :')

I've been growing my hair since the 90's, for as long as I've been allowed to decide. When I was still a kid my parents didn't let me grow it really long, any time it grew over my shoulders it was time for a cut, and I had a fringe too. I was probably 14 when I grew the horrible fringe out, and 15 when I've last had my hair cut by anyone. So 25 years ago. Even the thought of having any hairdresser touch my hair makes me anxious, it's worse than going to the dentist 😂 My hair's pretty much always plaited though, so it stays off my face, doesn't pull my scalp, doesn't get tangled, and I only need to open and brush it just before a hairwash. Very easy, no plans to cut it anytime soon.

about half a year ago I cut my hair to chin length after 5 years of not cutting it. I was nervous about it even though my hair had been short before but really it just felt so freeing. I hated brushing it when it was so long and oddly enough I got more compliments on it when it was short. I never really thought of long hair as a sensory nightmare, but now that I think of it... But for me, short hair is even worse of a sensory nightmare because I can never get it tied up and off my skin. My mom loves short hair and I grew up with a boyish haircut, I was only allowed to grow my hair at 12 and I never went back. She keeps pressuring me to cut it (I usually don't get away with it for more than a year) so we converge to a shorter length usually. But it bothers me so much before it's long enough to not fall forward or to stay in the ponytail...

I also dont have to wash it as often (although that was very quick with the short hair but i have an easily irritated scalp) and only cut it once a year. So i find this completely opposite opinion quite funny

It is interesting to hear about things from the other side, of having too much hair. I have had for a while, parts of my head where I have bald patches and it causes me anxiety. I have been thinking recently to embrace it, rather then the fear control.

Ohh great video! Glad you got to donate, it's a great experience :) I've been fortunate to do it twice in my life (first as a teenager and a few years back after having my first baby). Hoping I'm lucky enough to donate again soon! Tips for those thinking about donating - if you are pregnant or very recently postpartum, your hair is extra full from shedding less for 9 months so it's an especially great time to donate as it is a little thicker than usual!

I really struggle with hair dressers so i grow my hair for 2ish years untill I get fed up of brushing it or I cant brush it properly (I have very thick hair) and then chop it off (to a short ish bob) and donate it to Princess Trust.

Well done on donating your hair, Evan! It's a very generous thing to do and a great gift for a sick child. And your new 'do looks great on you. I think one of the things with shorter hair is that it takes a lot less time to dry, speaking as someone that's had both short and (currently, quite) long hair.

How will hair make the child not to be sick anymore?
@jeanproctor3663
@jeanproctor3663 4 месяца назад
@@TedEhioghae It doesn't stop the child from being sick but as a lot of chemo treatments cause hair thinning/loss, donated hair can be made into a wig, therefore helping a child to not feel as bad at having little or no hair. It gives the illusion that they still do have hair. Not everyone wants the world to know they have a naked or near-naked scalp.

I started growing my hair long in 91 or 92(highschool), and I decided to cut it short again maybe 2001 or 2002. the last straw for me was waking up in the middle of the night needing to piss, and not being able to get up because my girlfriend was laying on my hair. as in I couldn't lift my head up at all, and I was basically trapped. only until like my brain started working, once I realized what was going on I was able to slowly work my hair out from underneath her by pulling on it. but yeah I went that weekend, and the hairdresser was like are you sure? it's really long. but I've never looked back, I usually grow it out a little for the winter, but if I ever get the urge to reach back as if to smooth it for a ponytail, that's when I know it's time to chop it back again.

I had my hair down to my hips and I recently got it cut just above my shoulders and donated it. It was around 26 inches with 4 ponytails donated. I took me 8 years to get to that length from a pixie cut. It's definitely been a big change but I'm happy to have been able to donate a lot of hair.

I sleep with a top knot tied off loosely with a satin hair band. I cannot STAND that feeling when my hair gets caught under my arm at night, or touches my face, or any of the other sensory nightmares you described. I do love how soft and silky my hair is, though, so I keep it.

When I was 30 (nearly ** years ago!) my hair was down to my arse but the first signs of baldness were approaching. I didn't want to look like an emaciated Tesco Value Hulk Hogan so I got a friend to give me a number 3 clipper cut. A bit radical. I flogged it to a wig maker for fifty quid which, the internet tells me, would be worth nearly twice that now. I bought amphetamines.

I'm a guy and I've got similar hair length to what you had (had a couple inches taken off around new year) but still long - did the whole growing during lockdown thing - I have always wanted to try long hair. The thing you said about the hair in your mouth made me laugh; it is so true! You brush the hair from the left side of your face and it is still in your mouth...you then conclude it is from the right side of your face. Sometimes you still can't find it and it is a hair from the back or side! Quite sad to see you cut the long locks but short hair suits you too. You can pull off any style with fair hair like yours. I've been thinking about cutting mine off recently but I am still at the stage where I think I will completely regret it because I don't think I will be motivated to put another 2-3 years of my life into growing it again. I think once I cut it short; it will remain short for the rest of my life. The awkward stage was a pain in the arse! That is why lockdown growing was so handy!

I was born and brought up about 1/2 a mile from Chiswick high street (Acton Green) and looking at your video it just reminds me of how much the area has changed since I lived there in the 60's and 70's. I know the public toilets on the green you were on have been closed for donkey's years, but when I was a kid, what is now Sainsburys, used to be the Whitbread brewery. I take it the John Bull is still there opposite Gunnersbury station?

I like this shorter haircut on you. You have a face with low visual weight (meaning one's focus is naturally drawn to the lower part of your face) and long hair, when loose, adds more weight to that area (draws focus down). The shorter hair balances you out - both by the gravity defying fringe that draws attention, but also just by your hair having more volume on top since it's no longer lying flat to your head due to the weight. It looks good on you.

I'm a guy with hair going down to my mid-back. I used to hate having hair this long until I started using bonnets at night and scrunchies during the day. I also got into the habit of brushing it every day and using leave-in conditioner after I showered and washed my hair. My hair no longer strangles me at night and it doesn't get in my mouth during the day. Brushing it every day and using the product has also minimized hair coming out and getting in my food/drain etc. I also use a hair catcher for my shower drain but that is more for body and beard hair than anything. I'm not saying this because I think anyone can have and maintain long hair but I hope these suggestions can help some people with the struggle. It's more work than many people realize. Edit: Never underestimate the power of a good conditioner.

Well done for having decided and going ahead (no pun intended) with the haircut - and for donating the cut hair to that children's charity, what a great idea. When I was 58, I was diagnosed with autism. I'd always had issues with getting my hair cut. I'd stress about it for 6 weeks or so before I could face going. So, when the diagnosis came, I decided that I'd just let it grow. For me, long hair is liberating. I've never felt happier with my hair.

Having had long hair through high school and a few years after, the maintenance just gets more time-consuming. If you don't brush it daily it can get knotted and just a mess.

As a man with long hair and working from the title only so no idea if it's a topic addressed here... but I'd give my experience from a dating point of view. I've had long hair when younger then short hair for years then long hair again from lockdown. The first thing about having long hair is that it's going to be a deal breaker for a lot of women and types of women, except when a viking TV show gets big, then you'll have a brief period of every woman being more open to it. So yeah that's the first thing be aware if you're single, you're shrinking your dating pool massively. On the flip side if your type is punk, rock, metal, or goth girls don't worry at all, a lack of long hair is a deal breaker for some of them.

The church's architecture was so lovely I had to look it up. It's called the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God and the Holy Royal Martyrs. It's basically a cathedral belonging to the denomination called Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (which is a distinct and semi-autonomous part of the Russian Orthodx Church).

Interesting to hear your thoughts. It’s definitely weird to think about why either long hair or short hair feels more “you.” Whether that’s a gender expression thing or how people perceive you or just the sensory stuff… I also have very thick hair that I know looks lovely when it’s long , and sometimes I think about growing it out again. But I grew up with it like that and always dreamed of cutting it. When I finally did, I donated 17 inches! Briefly during the pandemic I started letting it go, but then I got fed up after about 6 months and learned to cut it myself. I still do!
