Right? I wouldn't just waltz into a dog shelter and say "give me the Great Dane mutt you guys have in the back!" No, I went for my tiny mutt because I know he's the right size for my family. Same with Blue Tangs. Like she said, it's like owning a wild animal that also costs a million dollars annually to care for. If you're a fish expert, then go for it.
I work at a pet store, I had a customer come in wanting to buy a Blue Tang for her 4 year-old son. I had to explain to her the difficulty & investment, how she can't just put it in a 3 gal tank. She then asked about the Clown Fish & decided that would be better for him. I literally had to call a manager to confirm a refusal of sale for this lady. I told her I couldn't sell to her bc she wouldn't be properly caring for them. So she ended up getting a goldfish I guess a few days ago, my coworker said she refused to get a 10 gal min, instead got a 1 gal w 3 goldfish. I feel so bad for those fish. I also feel somewhat bad sometimes telling people no, but at the end of the day I'm more concerned about the animals well being & life, as do most people who work at pet stores.
Exactly. I had looked at my coworker, like poor fishes. They won't last 4 days in that thing, considering the fact it was 3 LG male goldfish. Cuz their son wanted one. UGH.
It's sad. They aren't any different to dogs or cats. They are animals and they have needs. They are living creatures, not decorations. You wouldn't get a dog and keep him in his cage all his life would you? I've noticed fish get the short end of the stick when it comes to this. Most people just don't even bother learning how to care of them and expect them to be okay living in a little bowl, which is why most fish die within several months. If people can't properly care for fish, they shouldn't get any. Don't sentence them to death.
+Pixie Prince Fish have been around and surviving a lot longer than we have and they've been a food source for a lot of marine life and other animals for a long time. The ones we take out of the ocean are already populated beyond what is needed. "Caring" for them does nothing to their numbers, they're just there to be eaten by other animals.
Jfc, why is she getting so much hate? She obviously knows what she's talking about, and knows what she's doing. If you're coming out of the hole of ignorants, and have no knowledge on blue tangs, why go out of your way and comment bullcrap?
Zostiel because of these reasons: -people think they know everything -people always want to feel like they're right even if told otherwise by experts -people are simply assholes -people dont care about the animal(s) and are probably currently killing them by not following whatever rules are given in vids like these -people are actually butthurt 12 year olds
She knows what she is talking about and she knows EVERYTHING about animals. Think about it when someone commented it on your video if you where her. Stop bullying you tubers you bitch!
Kenny McCormick I'm 12 and I like fishes but like she say in the vid I don't want to buy one or any of those type of fish heck I don't want a fish cuz my cat will eat it under a min. Lol. And plus it cost so much money 😛😛
"Instead of spending all your money to potentially kill a blue tang, consider donating some money to wildlife funds and ocean conservation funds to conserve the species in the wild!" THANK YOU AHHHHHHH
@Samuel Nelson mk let me get this straight. You got mad at someone for getting excited about Taylor asking people to CONSIDER donating to help wild life. And they weren't even talking to you. You made a fool of yourself for no reason
Do I still want a blue tang? Yeah! They're cool and beautiful and awesome! Will I ever get one? Absolutely no way. I'm working my ass off to get my tank set up for my veil tail betta! No way would I ever be calm about a giant salt water tank! Blue tangs are beautiful to look at; they are not for a novice or slacker who thinks it'll be a walk in the park.
When I first saw ratatouille, I really wanted a rat, but my parents said no because at the time because they hated rats. It's been 8 years since that movie came out and I recently got my first two rats. I am so happy my parents said no to me when I was younger, because now I feel that I have alot more responsibility and can now give my rats the proper care they deserve. My point is, just because an animal in a movie looks cool or cute, doesn't mean you are qualified or knowledgeable enough to properly care for the animal.
Marble Woolf I had rats in secondary, and thankfully I was well aware of the responsibility they came with. I treated them like kings, once every month I'd fill their whole cage with shredded paper and they'd go nuts. I bought them running balls, played with them outside, bought them a gigantic cage with gym extensions, had them on strict diets, trained them with peanuts and gave them lots of love. If you can put in the time and effort they're perfect pets. They're as clean as you let them be.
I have 4 boys right now 😊 Such amazing, sweet, and intelligent animals who are so misunderstood. I can't tell you how much I love my little guys, they love kisses and scratches and being with me in general; much more affectionate than a cat and cleaner too.
I don’t have the time or commitment for a saltwater tank.. so I don’t get a saltwater tank. WHY CAN SOME PEOPLE NOT UNDERSTAND THAT YOU CANT JUST BUY AN ANIMAL BECAUSE U SAW IT I A FRECKING MOVIE
Yes!!! And when people buy animals like bunnies and things people aren’t prepared for as gifts for little kids 🙁 it’s so sad, and so many animals die because people don’t understand that pets are a responsibility😭😭😭
I was at the pet store and a woman who was very heavily pregnant squatted down and grabbed a tiny plastic fish bowl that seemed like it could have contained less than three cups of water. She went "Hey honey let's get a betta fish!" To her husband who was holding her four year old boy's hand... I walked over and literally pointed to a 3 gallon tank with a filter and heater and said in the sweetest tone that I could possibly manage "This tank is super good for Betta fish and has a built in heater and filter!" (I would recommend at least a 10 gallon for a Betta but I didn't want to overwhelm her) she then nodded, grabbed the tiny bowl, and then walked and grabbed her kid's hand and had him pick out a red Betta. They then paid and walked out. I was FUMING. I can't believe people do these kinds of things and put these amazing fish in such horrible conditions and think it is perfectly fine!!!! Ugh I was so pissed
Elanore Nordquist it's sad to see that there are no restrictions to owning fish or intentionally let them suffer because they don't want to buy the right equipment. there should be more rules. when you buy a dog the breeder will also ask you if you live in a house with a yard or how you will care for them and give them their needs.
I wouldn't be too upset. It's completely possible that they had a tank at home but wanted to give the little boy the experience of carrying the fish there.
So I'm curious, why do they put betta fish on the shelves in those tiny cups? I've always thought it seemed cruel, but just figured they were okay like that.
My local pizzeria has a massive tank with a Blue and a Yellow Tang in there. There's also an Achilles Tang and a Fire goby. There's a few other fish I can never identify because they so faaaast. But. This is okay. It's a massive tank. Everything looks clean, the fish aren't sick. They don't fight. They all have their space. Meanwhile, a pet store a few hour drive away has blue tangs in 30 gallon tanks. They have a baby alligator (idk why?) in a 40? 50- gallon? Tank. All the fish are ripped apart and fight on the daily. The corals are okay. Anemones get taken to good homes. But I'm just. I find it so weird how a pizzeria can take better care of massive fish than a pet store. Research is important. Okay I'll stop blabbering now.
You are correct. I would not do a Kole Tang in anything less than a 55g. A 4 foot tank would be minimum for Koles and Bristletooths. 5 foot for Yellows but you could get away with it in a 120g. The comment is meant for beginners for sure. If you know about Kole tangs than you are knowledgeable enough
Finding nemo: a movie about why it's wrong to take fish out of the wild. Finding Dory: same message Parents: lol let's take a fish out of the wild so my kids can have their own "Dory" Me: did we even watch the same movie
Right? My friends little sister wanted a “Nemo” and “dory” fish, her mom got it for her and they sadly passed away a week later (not to mention they were kept in a fish bowl)
Chelsea Birbal You would think though their parents would have the common sense to say no, or even better, explain to them why it's not a good idea and why it's bad for the fish and most children wouldn't want the fish anymore if the parent pointed out to them the message of the film.
Thanks for making this.. I hate seeing people buy pets just because they come out in movies. I remember when tango came out everyone went out to buy a chameleon and most did not make it past a year.
Bianca you obviously either didn't actually do a project on chameleons or got your facts from the wrong source. Some species of chameleon can live as much as 10 years in captivity when taken care of.
I have a friend that owns a Blue Tang. She has a 6ft tank (not sure how many gallons). In her tank she has the whole finding nemo scene (clown fishes, ect..) She told me that ''Dory'' alone is costing her thousands!
I had a 125 tank. It is 6' long. It was SO expensive, and a TON of work. I'd rather do fresh, so much easier and less expensive. I didn't have a tang, but I did have a pair of clowns.
I did my research, so much research, but my mother didn't care. To her, my hamster was replacable, I regret getting it so much, knowing it was my mom's rules I had to follow. I still want one, but I'm promising to myself I will only get one when I grow up.
I'm more into mammals and birds , I know a lot about them. Don't know much about fish and as cool as salt water fish are I wouldn't even be stupid enough to get one. I've seen blue tangs in pet stores and I've seen how big they can get, 10 gallons would definitely not be enough. All the people saying shit about how she's wrong, no one forced you to be here so just leave. She seems pretty knowledgeable to me. If so many people on here are "experts" then make your own damn video .
christina 1993 saltwaterfish arent hard to keep as long as you have the proper size tank and equipment as well as you keep up on the care of the tanks and do alot of reserch. hippo tangs aka dory fish are really easy to keep if you go to a place that actually sepcializes in fish and you have a tank about 75 gallons or larger. ive kept my hippo tabg with my yellow tang and some other small fish for about 7 years before my house underwent a fire.... rn ive been rebuilding my tanks and setups and everything is going good. i will say that salt water fish keeping is expencive but as long as you have the equipment and determination to care for your fish, you will do good.
christina 1993 I love ocean creatures especially sea turtles but I would never want to own them im sad that ppl don't understand how much harm we are doing to these animals and it pisses me off when people destroy sea life for their stupid selfies. A lot of people don't care and litter everywhere too I see these things happen all the time at the beach.
I'm into mammals and birds too and only stick to regular beginner level fish. I have a hedgehog at the moment and I love her so much. I can say I'm pretty knowledgeable about hedgehogs at least since I've studied them since I was very young. I teach people in my area about them and if they are thinking about getting one the things they need and what type of cage wheels to NOT get them (Wire wheels etc)
Some lessons go right over people's heads. I like to think most people come away from Finding Dory not wanting a wild-caught pet fish, but some kids clearly just want the BLOO FISH ON TEEVEE I hate to think how these same kids react to Madagascar.
Just what the world needs! /sarcasm My university was pumping out about 400 marine biologists a year, when there was maybe 5 jobs for them a year in my city!
This actually happened back when 101 dalmatians first came out. People got a bunch of dalmatians without realizing they need a shit ton of care and then a bunch ended up on the streets or in pounds. People tend to buy animals after seeing a movie without doing research which ends up being to the disadvantage of the animals.
Mysti's Games That's really sad... I have a malamute and it's similar to a Husky. A Husky is very hyper and hard to take care of. They also take up a lot of space, and people don't realize that so they end up in the streets :(
obsessedwithpets my nephew wanted some gold fish so my sister got 125 gallon tank and everything it need it inside and out and made it look nice for 2 goldfish so you can't say all parents are ignorant...
Honestly I hate that people do that I have a hamster he lives in a cage that is way bigger than nessicary has lots of toys always has food always has water has a wheel to get exercise but like 5 years ago I would beg my parents for a hamster and they would always say no so like 1 year ago I thought well if I research them and get to know a lot about them I could get one right and that is exactly what happened I researched them for like a month and my parents finally said ok and you know if my parents had given in when I was younger I would have given some hamster a terrible life but saying no to me made me do everything I could to get it now I have had my hamster for a year and I at least think he has everything a hamster could wish for so do your absolute best research before getting a hamster or any animal for that fact
You are a very good kid because when I was 7 I killed a hamster R.I.P hamster. I fed him a FootLoop and he choked and died after that I felt like a really mean and bad person but now I'm vegetarian and LOVE animals and take good care for the animal. At least I didn't call the animal a it
All About Mia what does a hamster have to do with fish!?!!?! A FISH NAMED HAMSTER THAT IS BRILLIENT HAHAHAHAHAHA that's the funniest thing i've ever heard, a domestic bred hamster VS a fish that was caught in the wild HAHAHAHAHA
I think it's interesting but frustrating how many people want to keep fish after seeing Finding Nemo and Finding Dory. It makes me sit back like, "Did you even... WATCH the movie?"
Remi H. I love Harry Potter and I absolutely despise those people as well. Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to own such a beautiful creature with no knowledge of it? Those shitbags.
You're like me but with fish. I'm extremely passionate about the correct care for exotic animals especially avians. It makes me so upset how people do 0 hours of research and go buy a parrot from the store and end up neglecting and mistreating them because they. Are not. Mammals!!! And they shouldn't be treated as such!!
Natasha Burdette I have a parrot named Jack that I adopted best decision I've ever made he is the sweetest strangest little guy in the whole world. He's also a Jardine
Nikki Hitchcock yes, most inexperienced bird owners don't understand that unless you take them to an avian vet you're most likely just going to get a bunch of wrong information or just plain lack thereof. I've also heard some horror stories about people taking birds to the general vet for standard grooming like nail clipping etc and the bird ends up with a broken leg or wing?? Crazy.
Natasha Burdette, same, I did months of research before I got my mexican red knee tarantula. She is very easy to take care of but I still did plenty of research. It makes me upset when people don't research their pets before they get one.
Ecartts you are so dumb coming from an aquamarine scientist I totally agree with her, that's like saying humans will be fine in a room with water and food with a breeding partner. Didn't think so, most likely you have a blue tang that lives in a 10gallon tank and will only live for a year.
Rachel Wiliamson What the hell did you think I've said ? LoL .. Cuz it seems you got me wrong.. edited comment.. No longer interested in this topic or to argue for non-sense
I understand your talking about ppl who want a hippo tang due to the movie, but these reasons can be applied to most marine aquarium fish! The majority of marine aquarium fish are wild caught. Roughly 14 percent of the species in the saltwater aquarium trade have been successfully bred and reared in captivity, but only about one percent are commonly available to aquarists as aquacultured animals. Dont you know this? Most get large, like that red lipped tang of yours. She will get almost twice as big than a Dory ever would!
gantz the great right.... she has a huge naso in a 150 gallon tank. The fish seems good though which is why I don’t have a problem with it but she shouldn’t be saying don’t buy a hippo tang if she owns a fish that’s much bigger than one.
can they really help it if people ignore the movies message. finding nemo.the issue starts when nemo is taken to be put in a tank.finding dory hank not wanting to go back in the wild as well as dory/nemo being shipped off to go live in a aquarium also causes a huge problem. also would it be better if it was a goldfish?then people would just be torturing more goldfish.people need to learn that a pet is big responsibility and isn't something you get on a whim or because your bratty child wants a fishy.
When I was little we had this huge 250 gallon (I think? It could of been larger it was built into the wall) salt water tank. Well my sisters and I watched finding dory and my parents decided to add a couple of clown fish and a couple of blue tangs to our tank. My parents had no idea how to take care of salt water fish so we had a tank technician come out once a week to clean the tank and monitor the health of the fish. We would feed our fish more than once a week don’t worry and I personally would scrub the tank free of algae whenever I saw it. This ended up causing my love for aquatic life as I’d just sit there while this guy cleaned our fish tank and asked him questions about the fish. We moved out of that house so unfortunately we couldn’t take the fish with us, but we made sure to rehome them to people who actually understand the work that goes into owning saltwater fish. It ended up working out for my family because we already had a huge tank and an established ecosystem with snails, coral, shrimp, and other fish. I would highly recommend it if you have the money to spare.
Thanks for posting this. I remember when Finding Nemo came out I begged my parents for months for a clown fish and a blue tang. Thank god they never bought them for me.
i´m literally crying of happiness. it makes me so emotional to see people like you that are actually concerned about the animals and about preserving them. we are the worst thing that could´ve happened to the poor things, and you´re using your influence in a good way and for a good cause. keep up the excellent work, you just got a new subscriber :)
I have a 320 gallon tank and my blue tang is just over a foot long even a tank as big as mine he still doesn’t have much room. My tank has cost 25000 to set up but I gave had it now for 8 years
Ikr. My local vet has a freshwater tank with a bunch of tetras, a few cory catfish, a pleco, and more fish in a 20 gallon. I asked them when they clean the tank out because it looks so bad, not the algae the fish waste and uneaten food, and they said they let their corys and plecos do it. *bangs head on the nearest wall*
When I was little and the movie came out I never thought to myself "I want a nemo fish!" Like I just don't understand what goes through these kids and parents heads
It’s like with the Harry Potter owls 🦉 there were so many homeless owls afterwards It never came to my mind that I want an owl just because harry has one
Same! I mean you can sort of understand it when a kid doesn't pay attention to the meaning of the movie, but at least their parents should know better than to actually buy their child an extremely high maintenance pet.
The thing you said about the tank size is unfortunate because now a _lot_ of Pediatric Hospitals and Clinics have the fish tank in the lobby, and what do you usually see? A Royal Blue Tang and Clownfish, and that's because Finding Nemo was such a popular children's movie and children enjoy seeing those types of fish and get excited when they see them & say "Mum look! There's a Dory" or "Mum look! A Nemo!". The tanks are filled with so many of these fish and are so small for them. The fish must be unhappy.
My dentist has a 400 gallon with live coral, 2 blue tangs, a few clown fish, and 1 yellow tang. I love seeing it every time I go there, and over the past 10 or so years I've been going to that dentist. I know they are taking care of them properly because they have all greatly increased in size, have very vibrant colors, and I don't think they have added, gotten rid of any, or any have died in those 10 years. Seeing a nicely kept reef tank in a dentist lobby is really nice. I'd hope that if I came back in another 10 or so years they would still have those same fish in the tank.
I work at a pet store too and it is unfortunate the majority of people don't understand the care it takes to own fish. Especially if the tank is for a child...I actually had one customer who, After I had explained to them the nitrite cycle and how you have to set the tank up first OR buy live bacteria to put in the tank before you add fish, concluded that he would just use 'natural dirt' to 'cycle the tank' I disagreed with him but he insisted....the customer is always right.... I remember him saying to me "how do you think my kids are going to act when I get home with a fish tank with no fish in it?" To that I said "then it may be more likely that the fish wouldn't make it", he still insisted I get him fish.... Haven't seen him since. :/. Its possible that all went fine, and that he just doesnt need to come back in...or its also possible that he woke up the next morning to a tank of dead fish and children crying, blamed me, and claimed "ill never go back to that store again"....so....who knows. :/.
I made a blue tang out of clay and stuck it to to the side of a cup I have a few animals but I don’t think I’m ready for a saltwater tank, fake animals are great alternatives to real if you’re not ready!
You're so intelligent! I wish I had your kind of knowledge. I have had my goldfish since I was 5, and in 2 weeks I turn 14. I've had the same tank for him (can't remember the size) since I got him, and he's lasted for a long time. You're clearly a very passionate person, and you 100% deserve to be recognised to raise awareness for fish keeping.
people go and get the fish from these movies. they seriously didn't watch the movies. both movies the problems come from people taking fish out of the ocean. get a stuffed animal.
I remember I had watched Nemo and went to the Disney store at the mall (It had a circle with stuff animals everywhere). We got HUGE and I mean HUGE plushes that costed $50. Both me and my sister got them, we still have them today.
refreshing to hear an honest fish keeper, accepting that it's cruel to keep them in a little glass box, ok you try to justify it by having an invasive species, but you're honest with yourself and your youtube followers, well done! I don't have a tank yet but will do, and will try to justify it by getting a huge tank (tropical, marine seems too hard work for my laziness) so we're all as bad as each other!
I used to breed rabbits and its so upsetting when someone wants to buy a rabbit just because it would be a cute Easter gift or holiday/birthday present. They are animals not fun toys to play with!!!! You need to think about an animal's entire life and care requirements before you get it, do not get a pet just because you want it. You wouldn't have a kid without researching how to care for it and thinking "do I have time for this child," would you????
Brandon Notell I knew someone who bought a Rabbit for their Cousin. ( They went to a friend's house for it, as she Bred rabbits as well. She contacted the parents, too. It was a planned thing. I don't like when you just surprise someone with a pet. It takes care. And chances are the family won't be able to take care of it financially.
Sadly my rabbit was a rescue who was dumped in a parking lot a few weeks after Easter. Rabbits are NOT an easy pet, they require so much room, supplies, and time and it is incredibly sad to see people carelessly buy them only to keep them in horrible conditions or abandon them. People need to research the animals they want to keep and see if they really do have the ability to keep them happy and healthy before buying them :(
This is just like the whole "mommy my friend has a puppy I need one too," or "mommy I saw this tv show and the girl in it had a hamster so I hamster," thing that's common with kids. The parents hear that the kid wants a pet, so they get the kid the pet. But they don't think about how much time and money you have to spend on taking care of a pet. So then they realize that the pet was too much for them to take care of and the kid gets bored with the pet, so the pet gets either killed or abandoned. Or the pet gets dumped on someone else to take care of who might not have the money to take care of it.
I work in an aquarium store its super rare that people have or keep the same fish for 5 years let alone 10 but yeah your right a blue tang is the most stressed fish easily breaking out with white spot and usually don't make it cause of small tanks
I had one in a small 10-gallon tank lol it was actually the aquarium that suggested it when I was picking fish I had it for 4months and it got white spot a few times but it went away on its own I ended up feeling slack so I traded it back to the shop for a discount off a coral. It was cool to have for that time though plus it was only about the size of a 50c piece
I was one of those kids with a father who was knowledgeable about fish and I was able to have a "Nemo" and "Dory". We also had two big Oscar fish who suicided and somehow jumped out of the tank 😶
Ana x my stepdad is also very educated in fish, sadly our clown fish committed suicide by jumping out the tank, we had him for about four years. rip :-(
Lotte Plantinga well, they might jump out if the tank conditions aren't maintained properly. Or if they are a jumping fish that accidentally jump out of the tank.
The comment was not clear enough for me to know this but if the oscars were in the same tank as thw blue tang and the clownfish then I don't think your father was knowledgeable because Oscars are freshwater fish whereas blue tangs and clownfish are saltwater sooo you done fucked up (unless they were in a different tank of course)
Your description of the ocean may - to some people seem like the way you described it and it's great that you explained that it's not... you're absolutely right about how salt water fish shouldn't be instantly added to the saltwater aquarium - unlike freshwater fish, the saltwater MUST be cycled and stabilized in a timely manner (very long time!!) Before you can add "Dory" or any other saltwater species.
I really dont understand why people are complaining about how she doesnt know what shes talking about. She would obviously know because more than half of her channel is on animals. Not to mention how many pets she owns including saltwater and freshwater fish/sea creatures. Maybe people should stop judging people on the first video that they watch of someone or on how they look. Im not saying she looks bad because she looks beautiful 😘. And maybe the people who are hating on her should check the other comments first too. Half the comments are saying "You should be a marine biologist" and stuff like that, the other half saying "this girl doesnt know what shes talking about. This is fake". And i know im not one to judge everyones comments but im just making a point here, you know? Shes making a point on her opinion. Its not the end of the world if some of the facts she just stated were incorrect. So please stop making such a fuss about her being supposedly "wrong".
Also, they do eat clownfish. Listen to Taylor, newbies. Saltwater is an intensive hobby. The water maintenance and testing alone will cost hundreds. The lighting, the cleaning, everything cost me about 800 out of pocket for the biocube, and that tank was used half off. That 800 included 7 dinky (about the size of a quarter) coral frags, live rock and sand. The bigger the tank, the more water you need to change. I used to change the water in my fresh water tank once every two months, but it's every three weeks with my biocube saltwater tank. I go through five gallons in that change. It's not like you can pull water from the tap and add sea salt.
It's so sad aswell that humans are just so impulsive. Because you watched a cartoon or movie with a specific animal you just "have" to have it? I mean, my favourite movie growing up was The Lion King but I didn't go around asking my parents for a lion cub
TBH, the most abused in the freshwater world are carps, Chiclids, and antabantoids. I remembered seeing 20 female Bettas in a 3G display tank at a pet store, I was extremely pissed, but, I can't do shit, but spread the word. Thanks Taylor for spreading the message of this Insanity.
I own two bettas but I make sure they are living their best life, mine usually live for 6-7 years each, separated with a divider so they don’t kill each other
•Koroha Anna• You're right, but its one thing to have a goldfish in a fish bowl and another to keep an exotic fish. I have known people who think an exotic fish will survive in a fishbowl like a goldfish would. People are too misinformed.
"Like a goldfish would" A goldfish would probably survive worse in a bowl than a fish like a Betta or another exotic fish would. Goldfish can get nearly as big as a blue tang and have a way larger bioload. Goldfish aren't exactly easy fish. It's not different to have a goldfish in a bowl and an exotic fish in a bowl. Goldfish can be just as hard to take care of when you actually do it properly.
I'm glad that your pet store is doing this. I would have thought that they would take advantage of it to make more money. I'm glad they care about the fish they're selling.
Thank you for letting people know about the facts of salt water tanks. I had tried salt water when I was in my 20's and failed miserably. The only animal that lived was an anemone, all the fish died. I felt very bad about it and had wished someone would have talked to me the way you have now. Thank you once again.
I'm sooooo glad you said this because my friend is like animals are easy to look after "they just need a cage" quote on quote he doesn't know what a bearded lizard is 😤
This is so important to be passionate about and I'm super happy that you're spreading awareness about animal conservation and ecology! It's amazing you considered this because of the movie. Thank you!
Wow... If I'm not mistaken, they had a blue tang in a tiny tank about the size of a large fish bowl in the Osaka Kaiyukan Aquarium. It was a living display of the entire cast of Finding Nemo in the children's corner. I hope it was just a short-term thing, and that they moved the fishes to more appropriate tanks afterwards.
There was an incident like this but with zootopia. People were buying fennec foxes and it is saddening to see this happen. Thanks for spreading this knowledge to people, it helps out a lot.
Possibly because they don't have the scent glands that a lot of foxes have that make them smell not so great, and they are smaller and probably easier to keep in a disgustingly small cage :(
The local childrens museum here has a blue tang in a BEAUTIFUL tank... I can't tell if its a good experience for kids or bad. It is being kept in the right kind of tank, so will kids look at it and say- "I want that but I can't because I don't have that fancy tank" which is the right way to think about it or will they think, "I saw it here so I want one."... hmm....
I hope more people see this. it's funny how people don't really care when it's "just a fish" and it is taken away from it's natural habitat and it dies because of improper care as they do for other animals. We had a situation where I had small simple fish and would research how to properly take care for them when I was a kid... but my parents wouldn't really listen so they put a gold fish in with the smaller ones because people who own small pet shops here don't really care and educate customers.
The problem isn't people buying animals on a whim. The problem is people treating animals like pretty toys and ignoring the downsides of owning one. Yes, you can be spontaneous but this only applies if you've previously owned the animal first or have worked with one before. I highly doubt someone who worked in a vet for 10 years and wants a dog or owned a 11-year-old blue tang and wants another tang all of a sudden a year later, would make the same mistakes. That's because they know it's not a toy.
She’s exaggerating a little imo. A FOWLR tank is only a little more expensive and time consuming than an equivalent fresh water. Buy salt water and RO for top ups, make sure you’re strict with your water change routine and it’s a piece of cake. If you want to keep coral, however, that’s when it gets expensive and difficult.
@@virgoqueen3075 *facepalm* they aren't saying that they are going to have a tang in freshwater... they are saying they want to stick with a freshwater tank and fish...
