@TechBagTrey
@TechBagTrey 8 месяцев назад
I would still say so, you are the age you feel. As long as you know how to navigate computers and are willing to do the work and be coachable. If you look around on LinkedIn a lot of the Enterprise Account Executives are older. I assume there is a trust factor there as well when it comes to business owners making decisions on really big deals.

What do you think is a better career tech sales or management consulting?
@TechBagTrey
@TechBagTrey 3 месяца назад
It depends on what you feel better aligns with you. How fast can you grow in management consulting? Is there a commission structure + a base salary. Is there flexibility? Whichever one can answer the most questions that you need would probably be best for you.

I've been in tech sales for coming on 3 years now, started as an entry level no EXP SDR, making about 75k per year at 24 years old, now I am 27 working as an SMB account executive at a SaaS company, yes I work a lot, 8-9 hours per day 5-6 days per week but let me tell you it pays off, in just 3 years I went from making 75k per year, to now I am bringing in about 150k-200k per year, I love my job and wouldn't do anything else, also I want to mention, NO COLLEGE DEGREE!

Hey trey! I’m currently 21 going on 22, I’ve been working within the hospitality and restaurant industry since 15. Im eager to make the move into tech just have a feeling of falling behind due to putting so much time into the restaurant industry. However I’ve been unhappy with the lack of work, life and balance as well as pay. Im willing to learn and push myself. During Covid, I created and ran a business with reselling shoes and got an amazing feeling from it. But ended up going back to the restaurant industry because it’s all I knew and had a talent for it. Just looking for some advice! Appreciate you
@TechBagTrey
@TechBagTrey 8 месяцев назад
Sup Kyle! Yea sometimes we can do something for so long it seems like that’s all for us. The bootcamps can get you experience or you can use that reseller experience if you are confident in that and apply to ‘hospitality tech’ companies since you have experience there. Just google hospitality tech companies or think about the software that you use daily. Those companies probably sell their technology to other companies, but you can use your experience in hospitality to break in and get experience and then more to whatever space after that. Hope that helps💯

I have experience in hotels so I know how it can feel. I also ran my own business at one point and now I’m wanting to go into tech sales. I’m a bit older and spent more time in the industry and what I’ve learned is the power of transferable skills. There are tech companies that have products and services for restaurants and that’s where you’ll have the most leverage. Find out what type of software you’ve used in restaurants and then research those companies and their competitors

I’m considering tech sales because I am a people person. That’s my jam, I just need the knowledge. I suppose there is a bit of fear holding me back. In my 50’s, considering this as my swan song as both my kids will be in college on the fall. Do you suppose I have the right kind of skills?
@TechBagTrey
@TechBagTrey Месяц назад
Hey Lass! Glad you got something from it. Yes you definitely could use your skills in the space. Being in retail there are certain things you’ve picked up on how to talk to people find what they need and deliver. There are probably “Retail Tech” companies that you could go with so that you can speak directly to the experience you have that they could use.

I hear a lot about how course careers partners with companies so you have a job upon completion. However, I’ve heard from others that these companies aren’t quick to hire and there is only about 4 of them. Would you recommend still doing course careers or a different bootcamp or nothing at all.
@TechBagTrey
@TechBagTrey Месяц назад
They do partner with companies for the tech sales side, it’s mainly to give you a good chance at getting hired once you complete it (nobody guarantees). But you will need to score high to stand out, but there are still people getting chosen before they even start applying. I still recommend CourseCareers, because you won’t even have that chance anywhere else, then there is also the amount of people you have the opportunity to network with and see who’s hiring right now etc. Also, there has been and still is too many people going through it and getting a job. I would not recommend nothing at all, because you still need to understand the language of tech sales if you want to stand out in interviews and going through a course is going to give you that.

Seeking tech sales career advice: I'm a junior data engineer pondering a shift to tech sales. Friends and colleagues think I've got what it takes. But I'm torn. Is it wise to invest more time in data engineering for stability? Then I could explore sales roles later. My main worry is hitting 30 soon. Still, I believe the right opportunity is worth the wait. Your thoughts are welcome.
@TechBagTrey
@TechBagTrey 2 месяца назад
Normally people can see more in us that we see in ourselves. I’m sure you definitely do, but you could always wait. You could continue at your current tech job become a data engineer and have a year or two experience there. Then if you still feel you want to tech sales you could start shadowing some of your teammates in your spare time while also having conversations with the sales managers there. If you want to make the jump then you should be in a good spot, but I wouldn’t worry too much about age. If you absolutely don’t care for data engineering already then you could go ahead and pursue, no need in delaying the inevitable.🚀
@sdotlondonkid
@sdotlondonkid 2 месяца назад
@@TechBagTrey Thank you for your thoughtful response. It seems like somewhat delaying the inevitable, as I envision transitioning away from a technical role to management or another business aspect within tech eventually. Staying in my current role offers the advantage of returning to engineering with more experience if I decide to leave sales. I'll continue to weigh up my options but from the perspectives and experiences of my friends in sales, sales seems like a lucrative path for me and the only opportunity available to me with truly unlimited upside. I made 60k in 2023 I know I can make more this year and by more I mean like 70k but I just don’t think this job is really that scalable if I become a sales manager I’ll make like 80k but than that’s it you see what I mean. With Tech it seems like it can be more scalable money wise and position wise. I'm considering a pivot in my career because Social Services is great but it doesn't offer the opportunity to make six-figures without a Master's degree. I love my job but I rather be in a Career where I'm able to make a lot of money so I can create socialist and community-based organizations where I'm able to assist these same people on a higher scale, if that makes any sense. I never considered getting into sales because I never thought I had the personality or the voice for it. In my early 20's I was offered an insurance sales job and completely hated it (No base salary). But I recently learned that sales jobs are not about selling, it's about filling in the blanks and providing what people need so we don't have to sell to them. That's pretty much what I do now as a Counselor. Luckily, everything you're listing in this video aligns with my desires for a Career. But I'm still trying to figure it all out. Sorry for the lengthy comment.

Hey Lina! Yea I definitely feel you on that! That’s a great reason to look to pivot. I’m sure there are some tech companies that are in the social services space as well that would love to have your passion for it on board. There are people with all types of personalities in tech sales so you will be fine. I have a Q & A tech sales video where I answer a lot of the questions people ask, if that will help. Keep me in the loop, you got this💯

@@TechBagTrey Heyy Trey, Thanks for your response! It means a lot. I would love to join your Q&A cause it's a great place to start the study into this career. My main concern now is the actual transition. I literally started this job a few months ago and it's pretty much secured. I love my supervisor, my co-workers, and it's a super supportive environment. But I've always been the Entrepreneurial & competitive type. Mentally, I'm in between "Should I be loyal and use this company to grow my character and connections first?" or "Should I just do course careers and pivot as soon as possible?" is there any way to do both at the same time(I doubt it). Sooo many questions? How do I join your Q&A? 📚 Thanks, Lina

@LegitLeens Lina, No problem! Yea that’s an interesting spot for sure. You really could go either way and could make a good choice. I can get you on it. Just hit me up on IG it’s in the description and I can get you the link for next weeks.

What I don’t understand is what are we selling here? This might be a silly question but it almost sounds like telemarketing with a new name
@TechBagTrey

Hi not at all, you are selling things businesses need. You are selling tech. Wherever you work not you are using some kind or tech or a software. That what you sell in tech sales. Think of Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon, those are tech companies that other businesses need and use to do their business.✌🏾

Bro, this presentation is very vague though. I'm looking to branch into tech sales but so far every video I've watched in regards to it gives general information at most. 1. What does someone even "sell" in tech sales? What is the exact name of the products? 2. What are the product types? I know it's software, hardware and a service, but what exactly does that service entail? What is the name/type of the hardware components? Is the service rendered to the customer through a third-party? or through the company I'm selling it from? 3. Are these products researchable? Because If I'm going to sell them, I would at least want to research them to familiarize myself with them prior to even engaging into selling them. Difficult to sell a product you have zero knowledge about because if the offeree asks you basic questions about these products you wouldn't be able to even answer them. I just have so many questions and the majority of tech-sale videos don't even come close to answering any of them. Just flat general information that isn't actually useful.

You should go through some of my videos and a lot of your questions would be answered. Maybe start with my SDR Ultimate Q & A or my SDR Day in the life. Also you’re selling technology, most people don’t say the exact product because of the range of the types of products. It could be a type of software that businesses need, to selling Microsoft products to businesses. Open your mind to think, (anything that is a software is technology) even the job you work at now is using some sort of software to get through the day, that is technology.

@@TechBagTrey Listen man, I'm already a Coder/Programmer who codes algorithms, data sets, functions and software etc. so "Open your mind to think" doesn't apply to me and is a condescending way to respond to a commenter who's seeking answers. The very reason why I'm putting in inquiries shows that I am doing just that, thinking! If you don't have videos to answer the inquiries then that's cool. There are other channels to view other than yours. Don't assume that I'm just some random individual who's completely brainless about anything revolving around tech. I'm just looking to increase financial gains through multiple avenues.

@whathuh6965 Oh great, youre a coder. You took it in a condescending tone, anyone who knows me knows I don’t like drama of any kind, that’s not how I was saying that. I apologize if it came off that way, as I pride myself on my communication. It was said in a (think outside the box) way. The full complete thought would read “open your mind to think in the manner of anything that is a software is tech, and they have people who sell… I did also give you two videos that you could watch from my channel. The reason I answer the comments is to help because I’ve been on the other side looking for answers and not getting a reply.

4:55 it’s very simple , the world wouldn’t make sense if everyone was the same , some people had very bad experiences with people and over time developed a distrust/dislikes for people . I’m very good at making friends , communicating but I’d rather stay at distance from humans , yes I like dogs better 😊

Yea but you can’t throw away all people just because of a few bad apples. I’ve just found it’s a lot easier to have good experiences with people if I’m looking for reasons to like them, instead of reasons not to.

Trey, I’ve been watching content on how to get into tech sales for months but I have a question- will I get hired with 5 diff misdemeanors on my record. I want to pay for course careers, but will I even get hired with misdemeanors? Do they discriminate?
@TechBagTrey
@TechBagTrey 8 месяцев назад
Yea I see what you’re saying. Do some research on that one before you pull the trigger on CourseCareers. Lookup some background friendly tech job boards in (your area). They have them out there, like cornbreadhustle.com that’s in Dallas. Search those first, to see if you see any tech sales roles on there. Another one is felonyrecordhub.com ( basically if they will take a felony then they will take a misdemeanor.) Hope that helped fam

To work in tech sales, do I have to know things about tech? Or can I get by just from being good-looking.
@TechBagTrey
@TechBagTrey Месяц назад
lol the company you work for will teach you about their SAAS product. If you mean know “technical things” like coding etc.. no you don’t. SDR’s and Account Executives don’t have to be technical but it could help for some products. Being good looking could help as an Account Executive as that’s where the closing happens, but you could also have a face for radio if you’re good at asking questions and solving problems for the companies.👌🏾
