Congratulations! We hope it stays that way. They are meant to be a temporary fix but most people use them as their forever fix which for most, is where things tend to go south with the rapidly escalating prescriptions which no matter what they try to tell you is NOT normal at the pace at which they increase.

Here is something else also about the Double Vision. Doctors prescribe prisms to align the eyes and typically prisms does not fix the alignment. If the double vision goes away, it likely means that the brain is suppressing one eye in order to create a single image. This is often how the double vision is dealt with by the brain when there is an alignment issue.

I have been wearing the Neuro Lens for about a year now. I don't wear them every day, only when I'm tired or when a lot of reading is required. The great thing is they have different strength prisms for distance and close up work in one lens. My eyes actually improved over time and I need lower prisms. I do have to say that Vision Therapy does help, I've done that in the past, but it didn't take away all my eye strain.

Thanks for commenting! Glad it seems to be working for you! But here’s the thing: Prism adaptation can be a pain at the end of the day. When it gets worse the individual typically has to do either surgery or vt. They almost have no option left. Why you may ask? Because typically people who require prisms usually have newly developing eye turns. The eye turn as it is freshly starting requires the prism to align images to relieve strain or stop double vision. Then once it’s treated initially it relaxes into more and requires stronger….and stronger….. and STRONGER over time. Hope this doesn’t happen to you. But it’s the general pattern to watch for. That’s why some things that may seem okay in the short term can be landmines later. Thanks for being here and sharing!

No eye doctor has treated me for this & it’s been a process to rule out other health conditions & finding the right specialist. In February 2024 I was working a work from home job that I what the heck had worked for about 8 months and in the computer for about 12 hours per day. Once my assignment was up in late March 2025 I started feeling Dizzy, Anxiety etc. I went to a Neuro Optometrist and she stated I had BVD and Convergence Insufficiency. My eyes never crossed and I never seen double but she said I needed Prism glasses. I am so miserable. I’ve had them going on 4 weeks and I can’t really drive or even function. I feel like I’m in a fish bowl. It’s hard to shower because I feel I have that prism adaptation. It’s horrible. I don’t know what to do to just have a regular prescription and not wear these prisms. I have even more anxiety trying to get used to them. I feel trapped and like I’m living in a fish bowl. When taking them off I feel very symptomatic now. The thing is that these are supposed to be temporary. They are just a help for the lazy eye to see normally. Also a set of exercises is prescribed. And then after the situation gets better because of training a different set of prisms is prescribed. And that until eyes start seeing normally and no prisms are needed. In any case that is still better than having an operation that is in most cases purely cosmetic and fixes nothing but also can make things worse.

I have horizontal binocular diplopia and prism glasses were prescribed for me. I'm a 39 year old male and they told me I still have 20/20 vision but for some reason I've started seeing doubles
@jaehee9519
@jaehee9519 7 месяцев назад
I went my entire life not knowing double vision wasn't normal. But I've also had headaches 8 days out of 10 for the past 20 years and would randomly go blind for up to an hour from ocular migraines quite often. At 29 (last year) I went to an optometrist on a whim because I got vision insurance for the first time and was surprised when they told me my double vision wasn't normal, and may be the cause of my headaches. My optometrist said my eye misalignment was by far the most severe case he had ever seen in his career. I was prescribed neurolens glasses and haven't had any instances of blindness nor have I had more than 6 headaches in the 12 months since wearing them. My concern about your advice in this video is that "training my eyes to align themselves" is essentially what my eyes were doing for the past 29 years, with chronic headaches and bouts of blindness as a result. How would vision therapy be different and result in reduced eye strain?
@visontherapy
@visontherapy 7 месяцев назад
Glad you are finding some kind of relief after that long. But your eyes weren’t being trained. They ran wild for 20 years. Driving a car that’s out of alignment for years will not fix it. In fact only makes it worse for car and driver. Hence vision therapy is not the same as your prev experience. Bottom line is we help the eyes function properly without crutches 🩼(Which is what the prisms are). This therefore eliminates the issues that tend to come with prisms over time. But I’m glad you are better than before!

@visontherapy

Hi Sevonne. Good question. In practically all cases daily prism users tend to get a worsening of their eyesight thus resulting in even stronger lens prescription. This is why most docs will tell you that they expect the prescription to get stronger over time. But we do not follow the approach of prescribing prisms and instead work to resolve the underlying condition without needing to make things worse by adding another debilitating factor to it even though it might be a bandaid in the moment. And for those on it already get patients off it. Thanks for commenting. Hope that answers your question.

Once in the 90's, and once in 2021, unfortunately the second surgery did not stick nearly as long and that doctor no longer accepts my insurance so I had to see someone else who decided to try prisms instead of a 3rd surgery to see how they would work for me. As I am on Idaho Medicaid, I don't think we have adult vision therapy here, and even if we did, there is no way Medicaid would even pay for it when they only pay for vision if you have certain conditions such as in the realm of diabetes, strabismus (like myself), etc. The frames the even pay for are so terrible that they literally fall apart and I opted to pay $50 for a pair of glasses online instead to save myself the hassle. Vision therapy would not be something I could afford just for my extremely terrible eyesight that I've had issues with since I was 5 to come back later as I am disabled.

Hi Dr. Julie. I was given a 12 diopter stick-on prism for one eye last year. I was excited to see straight and went on a 1 hour bike ride. I suddenly had extreme vertigo (world spinning), which I've never had before. After being rushed to the ER, I was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease, and now I feel nauseous and dizzy all the time, and I have hearing loss. Have you ever heard of a prism triggering inner-ear / vestibular issues like this? Thank you!

Will a little prism prescribed ruin my eyes?
@visontherapy
@visontherapy Год назад
Hi there, typically the "little" becomes more and more due to a common phenomena called prism accommodation which means your eyes get used to what you started with and requires even more. And logic says it wouldn't be more if your eyes were actually getting better. So ultimately YES prolonged use of prisms will make it worse.

I started at 2base out prism in my left eye for esotropia, following yr went to 3, 2yrs latter (2020) went to 5base out. 2021 esotropia started real bad in my right eye got 4.50 base out, now move to 2023 I'm at 5.50 each eye base out so I'm pretty dependent on prisms and I know it's going to get worse I'm sure now how bad not sure.

Hi there. I do not know any doc local to you. Besides, I cannot advise about another clinic’s therapy as they definitely NOT all the same simply because it is called VT. For instance there are nightly effective protocols I developed and use that are exclusive to our clinic. For this reason (our higher success rate), we have many people still end up coming to us after having tried “therapy” elsewhere. Great news is that where you live doesn’t matter as we have patients from all over the world, including your state. So we would be glad to help you if you so desire. First thing to do would be to schedule an online consultation with me to discuss what you are experiencing and I can advise as to what is possible. To schedule your consultation, visit us at www.visionforlifeworks.com. Looking forward to see you on the schedule!

It is important to follow the advice of your doc unless you determine it isn’t helping. So while it is not the approach I would have taken if it works for you then your objective has been met at least temporarily. Typically longer term use is more likely to be an issue than short term. If next time they wish to increase the prism then you know something has changed.

My doc told me that vision therapy won’t help me and would make things worse. I was diagnosed with vertical heterophoria. I forget the reason why. I keep asking for a copy of my records but I’ve yet to receive them. I remember them saying that I have a vertical and horizontal misalignment. Any thoughts? I’m currently wearing prisms. They help, but I find myself wanting to take them off throughout the day.
@visontherapy
@visontherapy 7 месяцев назад
Hi Lauren. It is no surprise they would day that. First off because thats what they were taught in school and secondly because some docs arent open minded to expand their perspective once they graduate and get set in their ways. Yet the facts say differently and as a result we get a lot of patients reporting that their doc is quite surprised at their improvement. Here is one of many such examples copied from our website: After my stroke and loss of peripheral vision, and In spite of my ophthalmologist’s statement that “ It was impossible to regain any sight” my partner convinced me to try the Vision for Life program. After several months, I noticed while walking in the streets that vision seemed “MUCH WIDER” This was a great encouragement in a vision training which I at times felt was not moving forward. This wonderful discovery gave us new encouragement. Two months later, April 2023 the same ophthalmologist who, after executing vision measurements the previous year stated “ I am surprised to observe that your peripheral vision is CONSIDERABLY wider” I told him about your program which he one year ago thought was just a waste of time and money. He encouraged me to continue. A new date for verifications next year is agreed. In the meantime, me and my dear and helpful partner will continue with renewed energy. In the 3 weeks since the last measurements it feels that it has opened up further. We now look forward to each Tursday`s Zoom session with Jill. I am very pleased to recommend this program for anyone in a similar situation. In the world with new “digital meeting places”, Zoom etc, it works quite well to receive follow up and instructions remotely. What I in the beginning turned to out of desperation and not out of belief, actually delivers! With renewed energy, we are now continuing on the journey back to a completely restored vision which I look forward to proving that to the initially skeptical doctors, I would like to recommend Vision for Life for anyone with similar problems. - AR As far as prisms and Vertical H goes, it really isn't fixing your field of vision but instead shifting viable vision over and yes many patients report not liking due to discomfort and often cos they end up bumping into things since it is only robing peter to pay Paul so to speak. You are welcome schedule an online consultation to discuss your case specifics further and what’s possible for you, because Ultimately it’s up to you to decide about your health in-spite of the opinion of skeptics. Thanks for being here!

Thanks for this info! This week, I started to get stabbing pain in my dominant eye and my left eye looks “dead”. I haven’t worn the glasses in two days. Too many headaches, jaw pain. My non dominant eye is now feeling strange, but headaches and jaw pain are much less. My doc now thinks that I either need a different prescription or there’s an underlying issue. I’ve always had amblyopia. Patch as a kid, etc, but never had issues with driving and dizziness until after I had Covid in 2020! I will look into all of this. Age 64. My ex-husband mentioned long ago that I cover my right eye when reading. I don't know when this started. I had scoliosis as a child that was corrected considerably, but still have a forward head posture that they were unable to correct. I have chronic right shoulder and neck pain, as well as jaw pain on the right side. I think the neck pain began after a car accident in my late twenties or early thirties. I have always struggled with reading because I lose my place constantly. As I've gotten older I have had to switch to audiobooks because reading is exhausting. I mentioned covering my right eye to my eye doctor and that it was much worse than the left. He used a light with a line in it and discovered that either my head is tilted or my eyes aren't aligned. Is vision training available across the US? Can this be done on your own?

The problem is the derealisation and depersonalization. Its very hard to function when everything is a hazy dream. Simply blocking off part of my right eye with cardboard starts to result in less visual field stretching and as a result my de-realisation lessens. This binocular condition only started recently after a long period of too kuch close work. The amount of prism are you talking about is that a total number? Is there an age that this eye work is ineffective? How does depth perception fit into this puzzle if the eyes work independently when stressed?
@visontherapy

Age doesn’t matter. Part of the therapy process is helping our patient establish depth perception. We work with all ages, and typically only use prisms during therapy. But every patient is different.

I was just recently prescribed prism after two head injuries a week apart (6 months ago) that led to dislocation of my c1 & c2 and post concussion syndrome. My doctor didn’t mention anything about therapy. I do photography for a living so if I can train things back to normal I’d much rather do that. Thank you for this video. I live several states away so I will try and find someone local.

Hi Rachelle. Most people don’t know they have the option because yes their docs either don’t know better or isn’t willing to accept that the paradigm has changed and is changing and people do not need thicker and thicker lenses which gets worse each time. But now you do, you can change that for yourself. About finding someone local: first we work with people from all over the world and would love to help you. Second and most importantly, what we do is quite atypical and it would be a mistake to assume it is a standard outcome everywhere and all programs are the same. And I’m thinking no one wants to find this out at the end after much time, effort and money has been expended. If you wish to speak with Dr. Steinhauer directly to discuss your case and what is possible for you, please visit your website at www.visionforlifeworks.com. Thank you for being here!

It takes significantly more than a RU-vid video to resolve most visual conditions. There are measurements, exams and ongoing Dr. supervision and therapy support with a live therapist that is needed for most cases. Besides the liability and risks of encouraging self-treatment is immense.

Interesting. My prism is 4.00 out for both sides, which when applied for the first time back in 2020, allowed me to drive with new glasses, without having to keep one eye shut. The problem for me, is that neither my healthcare provider, Kaiser, nor America's Best vision care, would fill a wrap-type frame with my prism requirement. They say it can't be done. Because I cycle, I need a wrap type frame for wind protection. Anyways, I have an appointment this month, and I'm going to take in a new Oakley OX 8027 Crosslink frame. Hopefully the slight wrap can be filled. Thank you for the video.

I've suspected that using prisms to correct my double vision was a bad idea. Long story short: auto accident in 2017, severe left eye damage, surgery to shorten/strengthen muscles/tendon, nerve damage that can't be corrected, eye doc put +.5 on one eye and -.5 on the other and the double vision was gone. I think my brain would have compensated, but they keep telling me not to drop the prisms on my next Rx for the past 5 yrs.

My neurologist has no clue of my approach to discovering if my eyesight may be responsible for my headaches/migraines. He just says oh that's interesting and writes it in his notes. They only care about knowing your symptoms and giving you meds. Nothing about the causation. I went to a specialist recently for BVD. Found out I have a misalignment in both my eyes and Im getting prism lenses. I will be investigating how this will effect me long term. Nothing is curable only treatable unless you get a surgical procedure or something like that.

I have esotropia. Do you suggest surgery before prism glasses?
@visontherapy
@visontherapy 9 месяцев назад
Ultimately the choice is yours, but my position is that neither is the best choice in correcting your eyesight. Each path has significant limitations and drawbacks. the first is that surgery is well...surgery. but more than that the surgery is more about cosmetic alignment than improving your vision. We also see many patients who have had 2,3,4 or more surgeries who still end up coming to us. I have also made many videos about prisms including this one that shows its limitations and long-term effects. This is why I choose to pivot my practice to help patients resolve and improve their vision in a way that is more effective and makes either option unnecessary. Kinda sounds like a vision therapy pitch right? But it is what it is. Ultimately you want to ask yourself what do I want for my vision? Thick glasses that will tend to increase, surgery that may not do what I need it to, or actually get better vision without either option? The choice is yours. Thanks for being here.

What if you use prism, plus visual therapy and body work?
@visontherapy
@visontherapy Год назад
Hi Melle, thanks for your question. Not exactly sure what you mean by body work. However the use of prisms as a long term solution is incompatible with a vision, as prisms are meant to be compensatory by design. And there is no need to compensate if vision therapy is done right or done the way we do it. So unless therapy is done by a less experienced practitioner the goal should be an elimination of prisms and not keeping it. Why would you want to anyway especially if it tends to get stronger and stronger?
@Melle-mu5nc
@Melle-mu5nc Год назад
@@visontherapy yes, agree. Thank you. The prism glasses are prescribed for a short time to use in tandem with vision therapy and craniosacral work. This is for misalignment / double vision. Onset in adulthood, over the past 2 years. The goal is not to need glasses, as I currently don't wear them.

I have alternating Exotropia or something similar to Exotropia and I have 20/20 vision. Should I be worried about my prism glasses? I've been wearing them for about a year or two but nothing seems out of ordinary? I'd also like to add that I don't have double vision or anything like that, the way that my doctor described it to me is that it used light to help my eye stay in place because if I lose thought or de-concentrate my eye ends up being cross eyed
