Football Manager is a tricky game, but what exactly is happening when you run into a wall of terrible form out of nowhere? A question older than my Twitter DMs in the annals of FM lore. There are a lot of different factors that can lead to a dip in form, I mean you knew that it's FM, but it’s not just the ‘change your tactic’ stuff you may have heard before. There are more detailed things in FM that lead to drastic changes in form that take years to notice and counter, a good thing I do this all day.
I broke it down into three sections. I love sections. I also have a sponsor in this video, I’ve hired so many editors that it was time. Ayal made this video, he’s getting a pay raise too, so that’s cool. This video should help a lot of people hold their form throughout a season. It’s an imperfect science but adapt your tactics and heed my advice about form and such and you’ll be ok and this is and a and very and long and run-on and sentence. @@mcjennydeath1874 I was top of the Danish Superliga with Lyseng after the preliminary stage, but ended in 5th out of the 6 teams that made the championship stage. only lost 2 out of 22 games in that first stage and then proceeded to go winless in the 10 games in the championship stage games.

Hi guys, if you're still unsure, you can follow this tip from what I've learned: - Rest Players: I would set at least 7 days of rest for key players every 1 month, even your key players. - Avoid Injuries: They cant get injured during rest days, which is also a benefit. - Rest days on fixture congetion: I would rest the whole team 2 days before a match and also after a match. This was actually a feature in the older FM but now its gone. - Squad Depth is key: Have 4-6 players to cover your key players on their rest days. You can get from U21 or sign back up/squad players. - Change tactic slightly: make no more than 1-2 tactic tweaks each month, the less the better (avoid AI countering our tactic) - Change players position: I would play my ST as wingers on some matches. not important but helps squad rotation. - TIme wasting: Increase timewasting when youve win a match 3-0 or more. dont get too fixated on breaking records. Having players have less minutes will maintain squad freshness. - Reduce tempo: same as previous, end of matches when ur winning dont keep tempo at high.

Winning requires rotation? My Rivals Dortmund, seem to have played Sancho, Reyna every game consistently, now I'm in the year 2030. Rotation only applies to the player then?

The AI constantly starts players in poor condition against me and they play well. On the other hand if I do it they get injured.

@@dudewhateverish Fatigue and condition are two different things, yet if either are low or poor for the human player injuries across the board. AI plays an orange heart condition player (probably low fatigue too)... Bangs a hat trick 🤣

I remember in previous versions of the game, the way a team set up to play against you would be based on your teams rep. For example, if I just got promoted the teams with a higher rep would attack me and my tactic would be set up to counter that. Later the tactic would stop working when my rep got higher and teams adjusted to be more defensive against me. In this video are we now saying that the AI is a bit smarter and can adjust based on the analytics and manager stats?

There is also the option to choose "no gym or pitch training" for x amount of days. I guess that means that they still come to some of the tactical trainings?

I was managing Tottemham, we were on 6 game winning streak, UCL comes, i wasn't able to include Doherthy and Sessgenon then i lost dressing room, went on absolute slump and Tottenham sacked me in 3 months 🤣

Going on a losing streak because of overlooked weaknesses makes sense. What doesn't make sense is when that losing streak cannot even begin to account for itself. The players become useless unless you yourself make the necessary adjustments that the game wants you to make. That's not actually how football works. Star players will randomly win you a game, just as a mistake will cost you one. Football Manager is horribly unrealistic. The winning streaks are too long. The losing streaks are too long. If a manager with a reasonable squad went through an entire season without making many adjustments, they're going to have ups and downs. The team will be very good at what they're used to doing, and very weak against teams that provide some sort of tactical counter. But you won't beat every single team you have an advantage over, nor will you lose to every single team who hold an advantage over you. I feel like this game hasn't progressed at all since I last played it in 2014. I'm not interested in learning what the developers demand in order to end a 10 game losing streak that inevitably follows a 10 game undefeated streak. That's not football, that's 'boring'.

natural fitness matters more for older players. Lukaku's is very high and he usually retires at age 39 in game

I dont understand. I'm playing as the team I support irl. When my team plays irl, they can have the same strikers every game for the whole season playing 60-90 minutes every game. As soon as I keep even one of them for 3 matches in a row, they get injured. "Realistic"

Every season I start attacking, second half I have to defend against extremely high urgency high press, hard tackling and very attacking mentality from the AI. I could not compete at all by responding with the same. Had to adapt and defend. Of course, I had to flop three seasons failing promotion until I bothered to adapt instead of yelling at the players.

I've suffered less from losing streaks mid season by toning down training intensity, helped in keeping the key players fit without having to give them time off from training completely.

Fm inbox send messages by your assitenr and say XY coach is work over and suggestio you to remove from defend traning,,you say 0k yes and continue gane..iyou mind in space you set up tactic and TI who care what assitent say...and shits go..one game two games etc..and you lose mind what is wrong? do you watch the full matches to see where you're going wrong tactically? Because AI managers "watch" full matches, so are more likely to eventually figure you out tactically and will also adapt their own tactics more regularly than you do as opposition managers attempt to counter them.

Sometimes it might be as little as a bad streak of big teams resulting in the morale shifting. A team was playing on a mirage of quality which only beating a more mediocre or worse team can fix. Edit: Once the morale is gone, it can fall apart as a death spiral

@@balance1619 Most often talking to them and saying their form has not been good enough works. They accept less playtime. I stopped bothering to give them realistic contracts. Let them sign as regular starter/important. If they don't perform, talk it out and lower it.

When you are managing a club from Brazil, You MUST have at least 35 players, that is the minimum for the league and Libertadores... You see the issue right there... I often have 1 superb squad and 1 medium squad to rotate to and 1 extra squad full of youngsters or fringe players because literally from January to December there are 2 matches per week. Unless you decide for a season to lose the national cup then you will be fine...BUT the players will eventually get low match sharpness and it gets really annoying.

another tip: your mid-season transfers attributes may look like they're better players, so you begin to start them in the eleven.. but some player traits may go un-noticed that they actually contradict the tactics you've been playing successfully so those few seemingly "better" additions f*ck up all your tactics fluidity in practice. player traits always override instructions and tactics. ALWAYS. make your additions accordingly.

I "feel" you missed one. I am quite confident that Experience is a hidden factor. I have no way to prove this. But when I bring in an 18 yr old with identical stats to my first choice player, they struggle for some period of time. The game will tell you X player has gained match experience, but for some reason i have never found an FM resource that says experience matters. (Honestly, its only logical, that exp should matter....)

This IS a thing. Younger players are more inconsistent but can put in a good shift on their day. Older players won't grow won't drop worldies but are consistent squad players

I’m pretty sure Fatigue doesn’t have anything to do with form because I have a wonderkid who was ‘feeling a little jaded and needed a rest’ but I had 4 or 5 important games in a row before a break (bundesliga) so forced him to play and he scored something like 2 hat tricks and a few more goals.

so rather bizzarely i sold my striker because i got a ridiculously good offer and he only scored 10 goals the whole previous season. after i sold him the morale went down so hard we hit a 6 game winless run, losing 5-1,4-0,5-1 and 6-2 in the meantime, then we had a meeting and they said they don't like that we sold that guy, and i assured them that we'll find a replacement, and instantly results came back😂😂

Me and my friend played a local game, he got a perfect 1st half of the season (even winning his European games), second half tho his team started to lose performance but he didn't lose, he just didn't win any games (except the Europa League Qualifiers still). It got so bad I actually won the league by 2 points whilst he had 1 loss the entire season (he lost to me), he was not very happy

My favourite is playing a champions League game and winning 4-0 with like 6 shots on target to their 24 and then the roles completely reverse at the weekend lol.

There is something more to it than fatigue and switching out players. Its like a switch is flicked January 1st and your team just turns to shit, even if you continue to win matches they are always laboured victories. There has to be some form of internal reranking within the game that takes place January 1st. The only fix I can find is to switch to a completely different formation but even that comes with some heavy consistancy.

I've noticed that a LOT of FM players are just lazy. I see so many posts on Facebook (in the FM groups) that they start to lose when they have a great team. And then they mention that the tactic was created in "year 1" and was used since, without making changes to it at all. Yeah, FM ain't Fifa bro, you need to act like a coach/manager to consistently perform well in this game. Great vid as usual Zealandinho!

Played in a league with winter break. Top of the league 6 points clear. Then came back, rested, match fit, great morale. In 5 games I had 4 red cards and gave away 6 penalties. This included a game where we missed 8 clear cut chances and gave 2 penalties away to lose 1-2 to the bottom team.

These worked for one game, the next game every body was fresh, all looked good and my team turned back into a retarded group. It feels like the game engine controls the whole league, If you have to loose you loose. As you mentioned, "sometimes" it's luck, but the luck factor here is a piece of code , which randomly decides the happenings.

That always happens to me after a new season starts and you do roughly 4-5 new transfers and lose the connection between players, even if the players you got were better then the previous ones.

The main reason I ever have to give players a rest is because they didn’t have a summer break, because I rotate my teams *a lot* so fatigue is very hard to be an issue for my players 😬☺️

I've taken to using the slight rotation option on every league game and then moderate or full rotation on cup games. I also include my under 23s in the list to have extra bodies to choose from

Just came 2nd in the prem with Notts Forest in my 4th season by 2 points. I genuinely didn't bother looking at the league table, even when I was in 1st with 5 games to go I just assumed I'd start losing and I end up beating City and United in the last five... I actually lost the league by losing 2-1 at Goodison on the last day of the season. A win and it was mine. Anyone else feel like they're massively over performing using 4-4-2 with a mix of OK players good players... Very strange.

Ahh yes.. the 18 loss and 11 loss streak teams beating my 17 unbeaten one. I see no problem at all with me losing both games. Morale is probably super low on my team compared to theirs. Oh and this shit happens every december/January/first half of February. I gave up trying to win games in those months and just play youngsters. So a positive, I guess. Jose Mourimho is literally the easiest manager that I have faced on FM. Always beat his teams with minumum 3 goals scored. So yeah... And Ive never lost a game vs him. So yeahh... Ill just think its FM trying to make the league mroe competitive or sth or luck, I guess. I would have believed that if it wasnt happening in the same time frame every time. EDIT: I always rotate players that drop under a certain level of fitness. For example in FM 20, for me the minumum a player had to have 91% or more to start. On FM 21, I'am still confused with these hearts thingies.

This is a video I could have used about a week ago when I was in the process of losing 9 straight in my first season in the Cymru Premier, and 2 draws took my winless run to 11 before the league split and we started to turn our form around. A strong start, which included 4 wins in 5 matches in September had seen us climb to 3rd, so I chalked it up as teams starting to take us more seriously since we'd been predicted to finish bottom. By the end of the slide I was 11th. Fortunately I was able to get things turned around before bottling a chance at the European spots playoff by losing my last 2 matches to finish 10th.

havent found much luck following the analytics report. one game they tell me to shoot on sight then after the next game they tell me to work ball into the box. i keep conceding from crosses and they keep suggesting to force players outside which makes no sense cuz that will let teams put more crosses in. reports are useful but its better to assess it yourself imo.

I'm not so sure there isn't some degree of scripting. I know, I can see, when it happens. Penalties start to be saved, we hit the woodwork repeatedly, our goalkeeper passes directly to their forward, own goals. All happens if you do too well. I suppose to add drama. But it socks when your team is doing well then suddenly can't even do the fundamentals.

Yeah. Your strikers score hattricks every other game, then comes that one game against relegation candidates and suddenly they can't score to save their lives. Oh, and did I mention that the relegation candidates suddenly play like prime Barcelona?

Always last 10 games my team runs out of steam, then again using the same 14-15 players all season in a gegenpress on positive whilst doing physical training all the time will do that lol

One thing I will say is annoying is that computers never seem to change their tactic for years at the top end of the table and still win regularly

I always send players on holiday for a few weeks after they played international games during the summer, otherwise the whole season they will be fatigued

This happens to me every time with my Chelsea team. We go on a great run of results, but suddenly, as soon as we get January, we go winless run drawing and conceding way too many goals. This happened like 3 seasons running now 😅. I don't know how to stop this it's very annoying, really
