It's worth noting that the greater time savings are not only because the slower cycling is on the course for longer. There's also the fact that at a slower speed, each watt saved gives you more extra speed than when you are moving faster.
Nice! that is free speed! I put my canister of bear repellent and my 20 ounce stainless coffee mug in feed bags on either side of my handlebar for fast/easy access AND as "turbulence smoothers" I fully intend to enroll in grad school and test this in a wind tunnel for my Masters Thesis. I'm 56(I may be running out of time). Or I could make a cup of yummy Putra Gayo Sumatra pour-over and go for a ride.
I want to know which pros exactly Dylan is always referring to when he talks about the aero bar whining and "spirit of gravel"... somebody spill the beans plesae
Just a note about sitting on the top or in the drops, yes it is a great gain in speed. But there is a difference in built between a 35km average rider and a 25km average rider. If you have a big “gut” you hauling around it is very difficult to sit in an aero position and breathing becomes difficult.
Assuming that the pros are the only ones capable of safely riding aero bars on gravel is so ignorant. Not everyone in the “age-grouper” field is a newby - tho we are often alone by ourselves for hours and hours so aero bars are a must
If everyone has the same aero equipment (and at this point everyone has the same equipment), it makes no difference to the results. Simply eliminate aero equipment and everyone is on the same level. Cycling is NOT about being "faster", it is about being stronger and harder.
