I...happen to love making symbols and idioms (and absolutely *hate* when people bring too many modern swearwords) in fantasy settings! Not only can these bring life to your worlds, but they can actually be a great source of contention. For example, a long-lived Elven race has the saying 'A mountain will wear down before mastery is achieved.' For them, it's basically just saying, be patient, keep working at it, you'll get it eventually. Humans, on the other hand, hear 'You're not going to live long enough to achieve true mastery'!
I found your channel through an older vid a few months ago and I had assumed that since that video was over a year ago, you had stopped making videos by now since, as this is typically what happens to RU-vidrs that cover a relatively small niche like this. Im very thankful that you’re still making vids, and doing it so consistently. I don’t think any other worldbuilding RU-vidrs present these concepts in an effective, engaging, and surprisingly educational way the way your videos do. I hope the algorithm is kind to you, because I think even people who have no interest in worldbuilding can find a lot of value in these videos. While I’m not in the position to do so at this time, when I am able I intend to help support this work financially, which I have only done for a few creators before. Keep up the amazing work, cheers!
indeed. Earlier episodes did not play nice with my audio setup. It was something off with the vocal track, not sure what it was but it's SOOO much better now. I'm glad she improved that, and I agree with some other comments about how great and niche this channel is, I hope she continues to grow!
The most important symbol for the Drakalfar of Berthiervista Skerry is their Aevitaufr---a string of beads worn behind their right ear that is, in fact, a collection of smaller symbols that tell the life story of the individual in question. By looking at the colours and pictures painted on these wooden beads, you can tell someone's family; what kind of dragon they ride; what kind of crafts, magic, or martial skills they are trained in; whether they've survived an attack by the local undead; etc.
In my world different occupations have symbolic items associated with them. One of the prominent ones is the ring which is the symbol of the shamans. A person with mystical skill is called a ring bearer. The shamans are mostly women, so rings have an association with femininity. Relatedly, circle patterns in clothing or decoration is seen as feminine
