When I got my cat from a rescue, she was 4 yrs old. She was farting and had diarrhea that first night. She also was barfing frequently. So I immediately gave her raw food, and added probiotics and prebiotics as well as raw frozen green tripe. The gussy gut product sounds wonderful by the way. I give her goat kefir most mornings. Occasionally cows milk kefir as well. Trader Joe’s sells a pretty great goat milk kefir. I buy a quart and I drink half of it myself and freeze half of the other half and slowly give her some of the non frozen every morning with her breakfast. Then thaw and serve the remainder once that’s used up. It freezes very well. I was able to find a fermented bone broth at a local specialty pet food store that I switch out for her as well. I’ve had her two and a half years. No diarrhea, no flatulence, very seldom does she vomit. The vet has told me that she’s amazed at how well her health has improved overall. Her fur is much healthier. Her conjunctivitis is completely unnoticeable. Her muscle tone is great. She is a kitten again. I believe firmly in gut health, especially for a cat I got at a senior cat rate because her health was so bad when I got her. Thanks for posting this reminder for us all

Even though I feed my lil guy mostly cooked food, I always love watching these videos. While dogs are descended from the wolf, I think it’s important to realize that they ARE NOT wolves. I personally believe that the raw prey model diet isn’t necessarily optimal for all breeds. While the prey model idea makes a ton of sense, I return to the fact that dogs aren’t wolves and the fact that there are so many benefits that can be unlocked by feeding various veggies, fruits and berries, although in small amounts. This is because of the vast gut benefits and the unique nutrients that can be found. I also believe that certain herbs and spices can be hugely beneficial as well. That said, I 100% agree that the diet should be heavily meat based, containing healthy animal fats and a variety of animal foods for an overall rich and diverse nutrient profile. I also believe that certain breeds that are more “wolf-like” likely do better on raw diets and prey model diets than breeds that have strayed further from their wolf ancestors.

Four Leaf Rover sells a good soil based probiotic powder. Four Leaf Rover was created by Dana Scott, founder of Dog Naturally Magazine. My bullmastiff has problems with skin allergies and throwing up occasionally despite me feeding the best diet I can which happens to be half a very high quality kibble and half viva raw as well as various toppers. I started feeding him a natural supplement called progility and this seems to have fixed his problems by about 80 percent.

Only 2 doses of Apoquel disrupted my dog's GI tract so bad, her stomach is so much more sensitive. She had HGE which also triggered an overgrowth of c. perfringens enterotoxins. I regret giving it to her, but it was so frustrating watching her be so itchy and scratch her skin until it bled. Right now, I feed a fresh diet but she still has spring/summer seasonal allergies which I just try to treat with anti-histamines, probiotics, topicals and monthly baths.

I'm wondering where to let my dog eat his raw chicken leg quarters. Mainly, I'm wondering about after meal clean-up, as regards to contamination. I thought maybe the bathtub would be an easy place to clean up, but not much fun for my dog. Outside, I thought it would attract critters. Floors are carpeted, or have cracks.... Any tips for anyone else on how they handle this aspect?

My dog just got put on hill’s prescription GI biome diet 😞. Also the visbiome probiotic. Native pet’s probiotic had us at the vet this last time unfortunately. It instantly cleared up his tummy issues and I’m waiting to see if it helps his allergies and acid reflux. I’m hoping if it proves all he needs is dietary intervention I can get a vet to formulate him a raw diet to do the same thing as this prescription diet. Background: I’ve done balanced DIY raw and multiple pre made raw brands all with no avail.

I called that company because we were using their products. They couldn’t/wouldn’t tell me one single piece of information I was looking for because every question I asked about food content and the ‘extras’ like the biome food, the allergy food, etc. was PROPRIETARY! So because it’s a ‘trade secret’ the customer cannot find out any ingredients! I was gobsmacked.

If vets "Were only trying to help' then they would research carnivore nutrition. Surprising how unwilling most US trained vets are willing to think.

I need help. My cat had a really bad stomach infection and the vet had him on a long span of antibiotics. Now he's allergic to everything including things that are supposed to help. I tried colostrum and he immediately threw up. I tried probiotics and I feel like it made him itchier. I tried digestive enzymes and it made him itchier. He's allergic to fish oil, mussels, every protein but chicken. Right now he can only eat Stella and Chewy freeze dried food. I don't know if its because there is some pre and probtiotics in that food but when I tried feeding him complete raw chicken from Raw paws, that made him itchy too 😢

Honestly, feeding outside on the ground is the best you can get! Of course, you want to make sure the area wasn't sprayed with pesticides and that wildlife don't frequently defecate there as well (while some poo is fine, some may carry parasites) but if you aren't comfortable with this, I believe Four Leaf Rover has a soil-based probiotic. I also like Adored Beast.

I'm going to be blunt. This video was nothing more than an advertisement. And Gussy's Gut is too expensive. I'm spending almost $600 a month for my three small dogs. My previous dog cost me just $20 a month. I can't afford for me to eat healthy because of how expensive my current dogs have become. And they're not even old dogs. They're all around the age of three years old. Raw food, preventative supplements, dog enrichment, everyone makes everything sound like it's absolutely essential for dogs and their well-being. My grandmother didn't feed any of this stuff or do any of this stuff and her BIG dogs lived into their 20's, something unheard of today. $30+ for a supplement is too expensive. (That's what Gussy Gut's SAMPLE cost.) $90 for one supplement is out of the question. If Pet companies can't find a way to make things less expensive for pet owners, eventually people are going to stop owning pets because it's getting just too darn expensive. And that's going to mean a lot of homeless dogs and dogs that lose their lives because they've just become too unaffordable and time consuming for people. I make homemade food for my dogs. But that gets crazy complicated. When pets become so time consuming and complicated to care for, fewer and fewer people are going to be able to own pets. I don't need more suggestions of supplements. I need to simplify things, make things less expensive, make it so that instead of me becoming my pet's slave, I return to having a beneficial symbiotic relationship with them. And I can't do that if I'm overwhelmed with the cost and effort of owning a pet. Kefir, I can afford. Gussy's Gut I can't. And I'm not poor. But I have a mortgage, utilities, insurance, taxes, and all sorts of expenses. I'm middle class. I'm not poor. But this has just gotten too damn expensive!
@GussysGut
@GussysGut Год назад
Hi Linda - we understand your concern. You don't need Gussy's Gut. Just ferment for your dogs. I think Mariah was trying to offer Gussy's as a convenient option. We interviewed her a while back for our podcast and have been friends for a while now. We're thankful for her friendship and endorsement. And finally, yes, the highest-quality food and nutrients do cost more. There are always ways to source and DIY much cheaper though. That's the good news! We wish you and your three all the best!💚
@PawsofPrey
@PawsofPrey Год назад
I totally understand, supplements can add up! Luckily you have other options. For healthy dogs that eat a species appropriate diet and spend some quality time in nature will naturally have a pretty diverse gut biome. Reducing the amount of vaccines given and medications can also help keep the gut in tip-top shape.

I absolutely understand what you were saying. But remember, you don't half to get any of these products. Just feeding a good raw diet is going to solve a whole Lotta problems very quickly. Raw, feeding has become a money industry. And people are spending ridiculous amounts of money but they don't have to. Go back to the basics.
