I completely agree with his words. This is a marketing strategy phenomenon. Influencers always find an excuse for underrating a cheap camera. The most ridiculous excuse i heard is that if a camera has a Dial for A, Tv or Av, then is an “amateur” or “beginner camera” bro come on. This is a 4K 60fps, no crop, 10bit 4:2:2 with Log-3 camera. You can make such a good amount of money out of it if you are good enough making deals and sails. There are cameras that are almost 3K euros or dollars worth and they still have a dial. There are cameras that can record RAW video but for some influencer on youtube somewhere it will still be a “beginner” camera😂. It’s a brainwash attempt for going to the expensive stuff lol, not taking it. The R8 is such a banger Good video sir

Thank you for this!!!! I think its hilarious (and annoying) how they compare the R8 to cameras that are $1k+ more than it. Of course if i could afford that I'd go for it but for the price point, it's great!!

Its bad for RU-vidrs and maybe professional photographers... For literally every single other photographer its amazing. RU-vidrs and professional photographers forget that most of their audience are not professionals or other RU-vidrs. I have the R8 with most of their standard lenses and their F4 L series lenses. It is amazing. The image quality is superb and its an absolute joy to shoot with.

You talk sense for so many. I come in and out of photography in a light amateur hobbyist way. Once I have learned the camera I can forget the intricacies if it sits for 3 months. If it's raining the camera stays inside, and it's nice to have something light and easy for my nonpixel peeping needs. I see the place for this camera as it takes great shots and 60fp 4k is more than I need too.

You make a lot of sense here. 2-1 decades ago I had some point and shoot cameras but never "knew" photography. Then in 2018 I gave myself a task to film a parade, with scouting location etc. in advance. I found the M50 just releasing and bought that. I grew the EF-M lens collection (and adapter to EF 50 f/1. 8). Last lens I bought with it was the Tamron 150-600 G2! Then finally an upgrade to FF mirrorless a year ago with the RP. Got it with the 24-105 f/4-7.1 kit, otherwise no other lenses. But I also turned the other way with a second hand M200. Together with my EF-M 22 mm pancake it's a stealthy camera with same sensor and processor as the M50. It's all for hobby. I do mostly photos. Got a 135 mm samyang manual focus last autumn. But now I've gotten the urge to get the R8 and actually sent my RP as a trade in. With all this I like to say that I'm used to a small battery. The RP had a bigger than the others. I've only known to have 1 card slot. So when reviewers says. Small battery - well that's what I've had all time. I heard to draws more power. Yes well I have extra batteries already. I bet all the reviewers that complain it's a small battery also have extra batteries that they bring for their big cameras. It's a single card slot. Yes all the other canon mirrorless cameras have that at this price point and lower. IBIS - with one exception no other have it either and it's not a deal breaker! Canon sells more expensive cameras with all those features. Canon prices the cameras on features they have. They cannot throw in everything in such camera. The reviewers could just mention this, not lift it up as a negative of the camera. If they make a video "which camera brand should I start with" and they compare with different manufacturers and features and price points - well then it's relevant to point it out as a negative if a similar priced competitor has it. But if I watch a review of an R8 and R8 only - well comparing with a remark about a Canon, Sony or whatever isn't relevant - I'm not switching system. To me the R8 seems to be great. The RP has been good to me also. I don't want a too big body. The EOS R is an odd fellow and good they don't continue with it. The R8 is the successor in the segment. And I like it's a change. With the M50 mark II Canon screwed people. It's is from all I can gather an improved firmware. I never upgraded because it was not anything internally better. I work in the software industry and know selling software pays bills, so if Canon could have charged me a some money for a feature upgrade of my old well then I've probably gone with that. Now I didn't upgrade when it came out. With the RP->R8 there is a lot of changes I'm getting so feels worth it.

Great observation! Thank you! Yes the camera can get a bit worm while it is on but overheating is a long stretch. I had a Fuji x100v and it burned my thumb after using it for 30 min. I sent it back. Slimmer camera bodies get warmer faster but in Canon case it should not intefere with normal usage. I love my R8 with 50mm. Light combo which I carry all day without problem. Photography is fun again!

The R8 camera I tried a couple of weeks ago overheated after just a few minutes of playing around in the menu settings, so not even doing anything like shooting 4K for 3 days straight or whatnot. Some people however seem to have no problem at all. I reckon it's a question of faulty batches escaping quality control. Spot on about the other points! Personally I still prefer my good ol' RP. Auto focus is not as good but I don't shoot fast moving objects so I don't care :)
@vshvarts

Just came from a shoot. Brought back 66gb/30+ minutes of 4k60 footage. No overheating, no problem at all. Used 1 bar from a battery. I think my Canon 200d(sl2) uses more energy.

1 bar of battery = critical. The battery meter is setup wrong. Also overheating isnt a thing if inside is = to outside temp its when theres a large temp change then its a problem because the camera uses shit firmware that detects change of temp not actual temp limit so its made up like the R5 was on release@@vshvarts

About the balance thing, for those who complain: Well just go and get some weights if you complain your camera is too light. I hope there is some product for it. Otherwise, making it DIY is possible. For my FeiyuTech AK2000 I bought a few years ago the M50 with kit lens was too light - it couldn't balance. I took a L shaped steel beam, drilled some holes and threaded them. It mounts in front of the camera, under and to the side of the lens. Balance! In hindsight the gimbal was a bit too big, I know.

The heating issue. Well it's too bad it happens (for some). I'll see how mine is. But if people is putting it on a tripod for 1 hour filming 4k 60 fps I have an idea. Get a heat sink. The bigger surface area the better. I read somewhere it helped to flip the screen out. So my idea is to have a heatsink nearly as big as the screen, then you can but it into the place the screen is tucked into and hold it there with rubber bands. I know, it's plastic. But we aren't trying to cool a CPU down here. The camera is made to radiate (nearly) enough heat as it is. I'm hoping a heatsink connected to plastic will tip the scale from "a bit too much" to "a bit less than too much".

I've used my friend's original R6 occasionally and it seems a really expensive investment ! Especially, if I'm buying my first FF mirrorless. R8 seems perfect for me. Recently found something worth sharing, regarding the smaller battery of R8 people are complaining. You can buy a battery grip made for RP Body and most likely it works well with R8 so now you can have two batteries. Additionally, with enabling Airplane Mode also increases your battery life. I'm okay with the single SD Card because I'll be using good branded ones from Sandisk and Samsung. I'm going to buy body without the kit lens and buy the nifty fifty separately. The other lens must be something versatile I've shortlisted these so far... (24 - 105 STM + 100 - 400 ISM) vs (24 - 240 Nano ISM) Any suggestions for a versatile Zoom lens(es) or from my shortlist above ?
