Why Yu-Gi-Oh Vrains Is So Different 

im not sure how the entire bond between ai and lost kid worked, but im guessing the reason why yusakus so emotionless in the beginning is cuz during the incident they lost a part of themselves, and in yusakus case he lost all the reason to enjoy life hence why ai is such a funloving goofball around everyone the exact opposite of playmaker. idk its been awhile

I really enjoyed the the more serious and realistic tone it had. This didn’t involve any ancient supernatural powers, origins, or cosmic mechanics at work. This was all based a contemporary occurrence from the antagonists to the setting and genre.

Whats truly sad is that Playmaker just can't get a break. First lost incident then Ai. Ai's death is prolly the sadest in the anime for me (roboppi too). He's been there for 2 seasons and although a playful character he is also one of the saddest in the series having to watch friends die multiple times. The simulations all say that if he were the last ignis alive he would always be the reason the world got into an apocolypse and yusaku would die everytime. Its honestly sad to see him in season 3 as he is still such a troll and plays around but is actually just sad and the last duel is my favorite in yugioh. His death was really sad and Yusaku screaming his name as he dies hits hard

honestly my favorite yugioh protags are ones like yusei and yusaku who are more mature and serious. It was a big blow for me to go from yusei to yuma.

Varis: an example of edgy being cool when done right. Shadow from Sonic Free Riders onward (dub-wise at least): an example of trying to make edgy be cool but failing miserably instead.

While I grew to like Vrains, it was the first series that didn't "feel" like yugioh. It was still good, but you could tell that Kazuki Takahashi and a lot of the old guard were long gone.

He has friends he just kinda don't realize it. He won bc Ai was his friend. Probably he's just holding back his emotions.

You know what Vrains Yusaku reminds me of? He reminds me of Kiaba and early Atem, Cold and ruthless. They are really trying to portray Yusaku as the antagonist more then they are a protagonist. Which is a very interesting concept. I wonder if Yusaku will grow to be more caring as the show goes on the same way Kaiba became less cruel and more friendly.

I loved it I learned a lot from this, I really enjoyed the joke that was cute how you did That. I expect more in the future

Vrains (sub) was actually the first yugioh series I watched (I started the original (dub) for about 3 seasons then weened off) Then i went on to gx (dub). Vrains is honestly my favorite yugioh and why I play irl and the games with a rokket deck. Also why oh why must they make the dub for vrains with Revolver being called Varis like wth and dubbed Ai's voice is wacky as hell

Very cool analysis!, never liked Yusaku that much, but given more context, I still don't like his character, but I understand it. Hadn't thought about the concept of internet persona even though it seemed so obvious, makes much more sense now.

While to me VRAINS has some cool concepts to be different, the problem is rather than three things like Yusaku likes to do thanks to Ryoken/Revolver/Varis, it's one; it's hard to watch him when he's not very likeable, and when he does show some growth, it doesn't feel like it sticks, compared to how it is with Yusei in 5D's who also is a very serious protagonist. I like to feel "edgy is cool" CAN work, but just because something is edgy, doesn't always automatically assume it's cool if it lacks heart or reasons for you to be invested into the series. It also is rough when the series doesn't take time to be able to relax and allow for growth outside of just plot because so much of everything in the series is plot. It reminds me of a quote of how without heart, people can't be ANYTHING, and honestly sometimes, VRAINS lacks big time in the heart department compared to the other series in the franchise.

I like how different Yusaku was written! It was interesting to what his character development! I fucking looovee revenge stories and I find it interesting how he seems very neurodivergent coded to me (in my opinion). Yusaku seems to have lot of autistic traits such as: strong sense of justice, strong emotions, stoic, mono tone voice, lack of expression, to me he also seemed pretty hyper fixated on defeating the Hanoi and get his revenge, I also can’t forget that he’s very blunt and honest, the lack of social skills is a common issue that autistic people on the spectrum have too! I’m also aware that his character traits also come from his traumatic childhood. Yusaku’s autistic traits are mostly a head canon of mine, as I’m an autistic person on the spectrum myself! I like how they didn’t write Yusaku like the common Yugioh protagonist! The bluntness and mono tone voice was very different and I wasn’t used to it so it made his character more interesting to me! I’ve heard that people didn’t like Yusaku’s robotic sounding voice and I can understand that, but I feel a lot of autistic people can relate to Yusaku’s character traits! I’d say he’s one of my favorite Yugioh protagonist other than Jaden!

It's vrains because it's VR AI NS (virtual reality Artificial intelligence network system) the B sound in V is just Japanese people being bad at pronouncing. That doesn't make it a B, it's still a V.

I prefered the dub version of vrains because it was a lot more comical and yusaku had some Character development

Nah the show is lame. Seriously, here I am watching the duel between Lighting vs Spectre, right. And during Lighting's turn, I fell asleep as he kept making summons after summons. I woke up 5 minutes later and then realized as I shouted "WAIT. ARE THEY IN THE SAME FDCKING TURN!!?" I never felt a series so boring. It's SAO 2.0, in general.
