NOTE: I have tried to edit this footage to improve the audio but this is the best I could do. To my defence the original was much worse.
Date: April 24, 2014
As a boy in New York City, Robert Sapolsky, PhD, dreamed of living inside the African dioramas in the Museum of Natural History. By the age of 21, he made it to Africa and joined a troop of baboons. He chose to live with the baboons because they are perfect for learning about stress and stress-related diseases in humans.
Sapolsky is a MacArthur “Genius” Fellow, a professor of biology and neurology at Stanford University, and a research associate with the Institute of Primate Research at the National Museum of Kenya. In 2008, National Geographic and PBS aired an hour-long special on stress featuring Sapolsky and his research on the subject. In addition to Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers, Sapolsky has written three other books, including The Trouble with Testosterone, A Primate’s Memoir and Monkeyluv and Other Essays on our Lives as Animals.

Thank you for the upload. Thank you for improving the audio. My parent's health went down-hill following a significant stressor. My Mother died from alzheimers and my Father from Cancer.

Thank you so much, I used ear buds and made the sound out fine. Thank you for allowing me to listen to a great talk by my favorite lecturer. If you went to the talk you are a lucky man, but great ideas are found in tattered paperback books as well as bad audio, and your generousity allowed me to share in this very informative and charming lecture. I loved his comment comparing military spending to stress expenditure in the body. People should check out Dr. Sapolski's videoed course on human behavior in 25 lectures if this interests them. Not as funny but great for biology geeks like myself. Thank you and Dr Sapolski , both for your generousity in adding this to the public classroom.

Spoiler alert - zebras are a mythical creature first written about in the sacred scrolls of the eastern European rainforest tribe known as the Yanamami. Along with unicorns, yeti, and dragons they are among the most widely known of the imaginary animals. The lore surrounding zebras led directly to the black and white striped shirts commonly worn by mimes. The word “mime” is actually the Arabic word for zebra.

That's like asking why people scream and rant at a meaningless video on RU-vid. It is what it is. They're engaged and happy to listen and ensure the speaker feels comfortable. Simple.

I agree, it would be much more acceptable if everyone would just tap dance and fart just to clear the air?
