But in my opinion, having 1 creative forward in the mix instead of 3 attacking-minded ones will be a stopgap until we have a new defensive midfielder that will unlock Bruno and Kobie to be more attacking minded. We saw last season that the only creator was Bruno, so we need someone else to distribute up top, too. Anectodal: I've been running a 442 for almost 2 years in Football Manager and have been dominating winning it all. Simlar to IRL Manchester United I was struggling to score consistently and keep defensive solidity with Bruno at 10 and 2 CMs from our 2022 season (i.e Casemiro, McTominay, Fred, etc.). So it's pretty funny to hear AJ talking about the benefits and tactical setup we're running now since it's basically what I've been running in the simulator haha I think I even talked about us running a 442 at the end of the season in a comment on this channel leading up to the FA Cup final. I wish I could find that comment to frame it!

I come here for my pre- and post-game analysis because what they say on TV is just so generic and superficial. This channel offers another level of tactical analysis I don't see in the mainstream
So nice to have better and different options this season. Now we need to keep them all fit so we can select horses for courses against different opposition and also have subs available that offer different types of threats to break a game. I'm still also looking forward to seeing Houland this season - I think Ruud's presence will really help him get the type of service he needs to get a lot more goals this season.
I've long been skeptical about people saying we need a "proper no. 9." An out and out striker wouldn't get much service in United's current set up (see Hojlund). Manchester United have a lot of people who want to run into space and be a threat such as Bruno, Rashford, Garnacho, Antony, and McTominay. That's why they play so much better when a technically sound striker who can come a bit deeper with excellent hold up play like Martial is on the pitch. Zirkzee is perfect for unlocking the other attacking forwards.
I really want to see Bruno drop into CM, so Zirkzee can play CF / CAM with Hojlund up-front. We finally have someone who can carry the ball centrally into the final third and make things happen (Zirkzee). Yes Bruno makes things happen but he's not a carrier / dribbler. Personally I think a No.10 has to be a dribbler who can unlock the front 3, go solo when the opportunity comes and draw fouls in dangerous positions and I'm not sure Bruno's that guy, he's more of a passer and long range shooter in other words a CM but that's just my humble opinion.
What’s the formation played in this set up mate? Sounds like 442…..we wouldn’t be able to play that in the modern game, and it’s certainly not ten hag’s way of playing. I think we’ll see Fernandez back in the attacking midfielder role, with Zirkzee playing as a false 9 (and Bruno is a great goalscorer, as our are wingers on form, so plenty of players running into the box for chances - plus you’d get great interchanging from Bruno and Zirkzee. Especially with Bruno now used to the false 9 position) Can’t play Hojlund and Zirkzee together, unless Zirkzee plays out wide - suicide for a pressing team to play 2 up front (and again, that would be 442 which isn’t seen in the modern game for a reason). Also, if you drop Bruno to CM is he replacing Kobbie Mainoo? Fernandez - as good at pressing as he is - just doesn’t have the profile or physicality to play as a CM (especially in a 442). He’s an attacking midfielder. You get everything you’re looking for with Zirkzee as false 9, without changing the system, and weakening the team by putting Fernandez at CM.
No need for that. Ozil was hardly a dribbler. Neither was Guti. He sometimes 'stand and deliver' types of guys. Bruno is a street smart footballer, he need 360° view of front line to create something and will create ton loads. But he is a totally impatient and unstable soul who can't keep things quiet or carry the ball. He is too hyper to play deeper roles.
I’m going to have to agree with you here. Bruno’s passing and shooting in the final third can be careless at times. I often wonder what having Mainoo or Mount higher up with Bruno deeper might do to our balance (in a 4231). Similarly allowing Zirkzee to occupy that space (442). Bruno’s not a dribbler, loves to come deep for the ball (especially when we’re struggling) and against teams that sit back MAYBE he’s of more use dropping in passes from a slightly deeper position and playing our forwards in with through balls, which he seems to rush at the no. 10 position. I guess what I’m saying is that I would be willing to decrease Bruno’s scoring potential to focus more energy on being a creative force and being more selective with his passes. Simply put our forwards aren’t creative enough to create chances so relying so heavily on Bruno to unlock the team from such a congested position (no 10) could be asking too much given his ball control, strength, and dribbling skillset combined with his risk/reward style of passing. Additionally , the underlying issues is we don’t have a lockdown CDM to afford the flexibility to have two attacking minded midfielders like many of the best teams have. So we’re attempting to focus on winning the ball higher with forwards before they get to the midfield

I think we could try both Hojlund and Zirkzee together. 4-2-1-3 with a tradition back four, Mainoo and Bruno as the two, keeping Bruno deeper, Zirkzee as the 1 to create space for Garnacho, Hojlund, and Rashford.
All we need to complete this team is a LB who can bomb forward and cross. (No, we do not speak of Luke Shaw, he's good as gone in my eyes) That combined with Zirkzee dropping off and Hojlund, Garna/Rash getting in behind, Mazza being the more technical defender and coming in late on the other flank, Bruno with the Hollywood passing and Kobbie being a menace in midfield with his pressing and ball retention would be hell for defenses to read. hey aj, imo joshua is a like for like replacement for martial. younger and fitter. theres similarity in the way they play. one thing i hated about the united fan base is how they turned on martial because of his different style of play. they expected him to run around like a headless chicken. and as a replacement we got hojlund who does exactly that and alot of fans love him for that. but in attacking phase he has been quite ineffective in his positioning. i believe zirkzee is going to offer us much more in terms of a striker that has footballing knowledge unlike hojlund and i believe the plan is zirkzee starts most of our games. hojlund will be the sub. everyone needs to calm down on how hojlund is going to be our main attacker. he is not. i rather have a striker who can help the team play better with his own ability rather than coming up with excuses (aka hojlund never gets enough chances because nobody passes to him) if you make yourself available in good positions you will get your chances. no hate to hojlund tho.
Zirkzee reminds me of Firmino. Unleashing the wingers to tuck in and have space between the CB and RB/LB That's why i think Rashford will have so many chances this season. I hope he'll be prolific like Mane/Salah in 2018/2019
nice how zirkzee involves himself in the game with the other players makes man united so much more dangerous and diverse I think hojland was played too little in many games you saw him too little a nice lesson for him to make himself more accessible to others
I really hope we don´t have to lose points for Ten Hag to make changes. Against Brighton both De Ligt and Zirkzee have to play, bench Maguire and Mount.

I think 3 strikers, especially all (rightly) expecting to play, creates more problems than it solves. In the days of 2 up front, the best teams had 4 strikers to rotate into those two slots (with enough games to keep them happy). Teams now playing 1 lone striker, means 2 rotating is enough. Would be good to take a second striker on a short loan - with Hojlund out for 2 months - but long term, it’ll cause problems - especially signing an established striker like Toney, who would expect to be first choice.
I am sick of seeing ETH's hate for Bruno Fernandes. Why would he move him to False 9 instead of Mount who is more suited??? He pracfically killed the best attribute of the best player in the team. He would have created ton loads of chances slightly deeper. This was always a 3-0 game. 😡😡😡
@@mebin654 My problem is why Bruno for false 9 sort of roles and not Mount. Basically why put ur best player to do dirty job when you can't use his best skills. It's basically no different from what Ole did with Pogba, putting him as Left Wing and Right Wing coz of McFred. And yes, Ole ball's entire build up play was orchestrated by Pogba (just like Frenkie for EtH for dictating the play to carry the ball) and yet he played out of position. I feel Bruno is misused.
