Want to get your feedback. For how many of you is the simple plug and play/consistency of a webcam enough to buy it over the GoPro or phone setup?

Couple hundred for a 4K webcam isn’t bad though compare to a 4K camera or newer 4K iPhone. If money is a big issue, then I can see going with go pro or the phone you have at the moment. But for streaming 4K isn’t really necessary either. Most viewers can’t even watch streams at that high quality anyways.

Legit one of the only things stopping me buying a Camera to stream is having to get my hands on an Elgato Camlink, I do use an iPhone XS Max camera though.

Honestly, for me, I'd rather plug and play. Sure I'm tech savvy, but I just don't want to fiddle with things any longer. I just want things to work, without having to mess around with behind the scenes settings, extra cables, extra software, etc...

I guess you can zoom out the ryzer cam to that 103. I have ryzer Kiyo but first cam and that cam was zoomed in automatically

I just started a twitch stream and have been using a spare galaxy note 10+. If I could find my gopro hero 5 I would use it. To answer your question... I would stick with my cell phone untill getting a Dslr would make my stream better. But if I could find that darn gopro I would buy a cam link.. lol

Actually much preferred the Razer Kiyo to everything that wasn't the goPro. Would be interested to see the goPro hero 8's built in webcam, in comparison to the goPro second hand build

@@USEC3 The Hero8 has a huge advantage of being smaller than a DSLR. Also I think you'd be hard pressed to get good glass and a DSLR for the price of a Hero8. That said I am using a 5dmk2 and sigma art lens. So I clearly got the low cost DSLR.

@@USEC3 I don't disagree about the lens in the Hero8 it is clearly an action camera. I don't like wide shots for streaming. I have a photography background and I prefer flat fields for most compositions.

Personally been having some issues with a hero 7 with streaming with it over heating. Idk how closely that relates to the 8 but my hero 4 hasn't had any issues whatsoever

06:43 It's not just a software crop - even though most webcams are. It works just like a GoPro! You can see this in the pincushion effect of your doors on the right of the image. In Linear, they are straight up and down, in Wide, they are bowed inward. The lenses are changing the FOV. :) This is illustrated again at 10:43 when you're discussing the "distance" you seem from the camera. The fisheye effect of the lens changes keep you feeling up close while keeping the wide FOV. AVerMedia PW513 doesn't, meaning the lines are straighter but you feel further away.

I was just about to point this out. The slight zoom is a linear option so all of the distortion from the wide-angle 103 is now gone. Look at the door frames between the two shots and you will see that they are curved in the wide shot and straight in the linear mode. As said, just like the GOPro does.

With the gopro, linear mode is done in software. You can do the same thing in after effects.

Hi Bro, i have standard ps4. During play time video quality is good. however when i record gameplay, recorded video quality is terrible. I have tried change settings without much luck. Will buying a capture card help improve quality in 4K? I will be grateful if you can help.

GoPro feels like the most natural looking to me, If you have that understanding of settings for cameras you have the most freedom to tweak it until its perfect also the color just looks better in my opinion.

Yes. For me the Gopro is the best option. Best field of view, most natural colors. Just a better camera. And if you have a channel like me where you already use Action cameras. It is a no brainer.

This is down to $99 right now. Worth it at this price. 1.05 firmware provides more focus control in Synapse as well. It might be worth a revisit video Harris for the small improvements.

@@theburntnacho I upgraded to the Model O from my broken Lancehead and it's great, the difference in quality and weight is huge. I won't go with Razer again even if the RGB customisation is still the best, Synapse gets broken with every update and keeps asking me to login. I see no reason to even have to create an account just to be able to change the rgb, did tho. I still have the shitty Cynosa keyboard which I will exchange for some good mechinal keyboard

of the three webcams to me the Logitech looks the best, but i also like slightly desaturated video like log with contrast added, but the gopro is probably the best value, best image. You can probably lock exposure with most of the webcams.. but probably not as easily with the iPhone. Thats definitely another big plus with the gopro. No drifting focus/exposure when you standup to do 20 jumping jacks for a donation or whatever. Great video harris

Just a quick note regarding the business professionals using webcams: sometimes a webcam is the only option outside of the very sub-par integrated one because the IT department doesn't give admin rights and doesn't want everyone to install OBS, regardless of one's tech knowledge. That means that at least the phone option is out (I'm not sure if a cam link is detected as a webcam by conferencing software?). It doesn't make any of the points raised in the video any less valid but I thought it was unfair to assume that a "business professional" would not be tech savvy and this would be the reason their reason to go for a webcam :)

One job I worked at required you to call IT just to make sensitivity adjustments to your mouse. Probably not a big deal to the average office worker, but when you're duties are split between administration and design, that can be a real pain in the ass. My solution was to harass them constantly until they finally gave admin privileges just to stop hearing my voice.

Yea, but if that's your use case, then none of these web cams really are the right tool. These are designed for streamers, not corporate use. I have a very acceptable, far more portable, and less expensive webcam I use for my meetings.

All of the $20 HDMI to USB dongles I've used from amazon are all recognised as a standard webcam in my experience.

The viewing angle of the Razer Kiyo is more curved on the side and basically seem to be optimized to be seen on curved monitors. So the curving on the side would not be visible on a curved monitor as the curving will even out the side distortion. The same Effect was used in cinema back in the 1950s and 60s when Cinerama was around and had this "Smilebox" mode with the curved silverscreens. The viewing angle of the Avermedia PW513 seem to be more of a 16 or 14mm wide-lense look with less barell distortion on the sides and more of a tunnel-view effect. Which has this effect that anything on the sides seems closer and anything in the center of the picture seems further away.

The main disadvantage of most webcams is that the image always looks a little blurry. As if the camera were focusing on the background. Using a smartphone is a big step forward in terms of image quality, but at the same time far from plug and play.

For the price of webcams these days it may be cheaper to buy a mirror less camera with a clean hdmi. Better image and can double as a stand-alone camera.

The iPhone 12 and GoPro at the end there seemed to be much softer image than the Kiyo although it could be due to the distance.

not sure if it's compression or something but the razer looks notably sharper and the colors look richer, but the sharpness is significantly above the other cams at least in the youtube feed at 1080p. I think razer looks best, but would prefer it if it could do that sharpness at 60fps. The used gopro looks almost as good as the razer but the razer with HDR has a movie like feel to it.

I think the phone option is still pretty good! If you download the Your Phone app on PC (a Microsoft made app) you can still get full functionality of your phone while it's being used as your webcam. Atleast you can if you're using Droidcam. So you would still be able to send texts or even open your phone apps on your desktop without needing your phone in hand

So, question then...what do you want a webcam to do now? The limit of tools needed for streaming is pretty much here. **webcams are hitting limits (no point for RGB lighting when no one sees them) **microphones are already very decent, and some are now RGB **Streamdeck is pretty much as good and options as it can get. You were correct, gear doesn't matter. Its content. Really what we need are better tools for streamers to use, and for more people to get involved.

Since you stated that webcams are more for the less tech-savvy, I'm surprised you didn't do a low-light comparison test, since folks who don't know much about cameras also generally don't know much about lighting...and considering the results I've seen elsewhere (like on EposVox's channel), I think you would've been pleasantly surprised by the results of this camera in poor/minimal lighting.

I used a GoPro for a while and it was a better camera by far however I did have alot of disconnecting issues and sometimes it would be tough to start it up then you lose all your settings. Once it's working though it's not even a competition its by far my favorite choice. I did buy an avermedia camera and ended up selling it and I hated my Logitech camera.

I think maybe the colors on the Logitech Cam can be better not for streaming but for video producing. The washed out colors can help the post-production phase

1st The Go pro, 2nd Razer, 3rd epoc simply because 8$. I'm still rocking the c920. Because with manual adjustments and actual light it looks more than good enough for most live streams.

That Kiyo looks surprisingly good. Great definition, just sucks about the slight over saturation and white spot on the forehead. The definition on something as simple as your facial hair is crisp and clean looking. The Hero 4 and the Cam link is probably my preferred way, as it gives you so much control and flexibility. I've been eyeing up the Dragon Touch action cameras myself as an option, as they seem like a much more cost effective alternative to the Go Pro. A new Dragon Touch can be had for the same or less than a used Go Pro. Any thoughts on that?

I like the idea of going the GoPro route for the future. It also looks a lot better than the razer cam. Unfortunately, my mindset would make me go for one of the newer models and then I think that at that point I might as well just go mirror less right off the bat. So that being said, I just bought a avermedia 513 that's coming in the mail today. Glad I went with this one too after seeing the comparison. Big difference for me though is when I upgrade to something different, this cam will go to the SOs computer and be an upgrade for her.

Razer Kiyo Pro looks by far the sharpest and clearest, much more detail going on. Although it boosts the lights, let's be honest - it looks pretty cool.

The GoPro looks best to me although the Razer looks solidly better than the StreamCam. I don't see a massive difference between it and the AVerMedia. I have a C920. I wouldn't want to use my phone both because its camera isn't anywhere near as good as a modern I-phone and because I like being able to use both at the same time. But, I would either just stick with the c920 until I could afford a real camera or use a go-pro as an intermediate step if I felt like I needed a higher quality image right away for some reason. In reality, I am going to stick with the c920 for the foreseeable future and am not really planning to need anything better than I have right now.

The Go Pro had the best quality video out of all of them, but I think that might just be because of settings. The iPhone 12 seems to have a better picture but it was adding to much brightness like it was taking a Night time video.

I feel Razer looked best due to the crisp image, the glare is a bit of a pain but anyone who has owned a C920 (EVERYONE) is used to that already lol. Avermedia looked fantastic colour wise, the slight blur was a shame. I really didn't like how washed the iphone looked but fine if you already own it and wanna save some money I guess, still better than the Logitech base though lol.

Working on some videos about streaming right now (Bit more geared towards events, less specific to gaming) Found some of this quite insightful. Hadn't considered using an old GoPro, but may well dig into that some. Could provide some interesting results. Would be interested maybe find one that supports RAW, giving much greater ability to adjust that color (Definitely something for the more experienced).

The plug and play Razer is the go from me! I dont like the use of camlink, to many parts to potentially go wrong. BUT! As a user of a a6000 with the elgato HD60 pro, i would still prefer this over the Razer.

I really can't believe you preferred the AVermedia over the Streamcam in your PW513 review, even now the PW513 still looks horrible. Only contest here is between the Kiyo Pro and Streamcam, the Kiyo Pro would definitely win now tho since its $99 now as opposed to the Streamcam which is $149 now.

Maybe I'm crazy but I really feel like the Logitech has more natural colors. Even the Aver Media looks a little oversaturated. It feels like taking a picture with a Samsung phone, with all oversaturation they do on it. The Logitech feels more like a Pixel phone which tends to go for more natural colors. The Kiyo is way too much, though, for sure. That said, the GoPro definitely blows them all away. It's worth noting too that Razer's previous Kiyo webcam had *tons* of software issues that Razer refused to acknowledge and never fixed even after years. So if you aren't 100% sold on the Kiyo now, don't expect any support to fix anything.

I've got 2 c920s I run through for recording and streaming. I did notice one laptop just can't handle the 9 foot extension USB chord, only 6 foot. Guess it's time for HDMI or something else.

I think the Razer Kiyo Pro looks good, but it doesn't seem to look $200 good. I really appreciate the standard screw threads, but some things could have been better, especially the software seems really simple given the fact that this is a "Pro" webcam. For example the doggy AF, or they could have included a virtual webcam feature, or a backup webcam recording, or maybe even a kick-ass face-follow that could be triggered with a button for that dramatic effect, etc. The GoPro looks the best but I would add to its disadvantages the fact that you can't change the setting on the GoPro directly through your PC, that's a big thing if you stream using natural light.

What about heat? Gopros are notorious for heating up. I couldn't see slaving it for hours in a stream every day and expect it not to melt into delamination of key interior electronics over time. I have no proof of this other than my GoPros always get very hot after a while.

So essentially, a good quality webcam, but definitely has that Razer price tag to it One thing should be kept in mind though, is that Razer stuff usually has shorter durability in my experience, and I've never seen any tech reviewer talked about this. I love Razer and I use their things frequently, they do make good quality tech a lot of the time. I use my tech with care, but even so, anything Razer never stays in good condition after just 1 year of use, most of them start breaking down just about 10 months in.

No offense meant here, but i have some phones that are called CoolPads, We got them from metro for free a year or two ago, and For sure, they look just as good if not better than all of these used in this video.. I use an android app to connect to them pc thru wifi and can stream with them easily and its better quality than my webcams combined, especially when it comes to using a green screen or software that makes your background disappear, which is really handy if you are pasty af.. Side by side comparison with an iphone on the same wifi the CoolPad clearly had better picture quality when me and a friend were streaming our pool match. i much much much prefer both the Razer and Avermedia to the iphone cameras and also to a lesser degree the logitech. the gopro is a bit. up and a bit down on some points for me. but mostly i feel like i have gunk in my eyes if a picture isn't sharp enough. the first part of your video when you unboxed the razer you where not quite in focus. you where hesitant to go directly from that "6k wooo high quality" to the razer, but thought that would be an unfair comparison. but i actually prefer the webcam to your other cam. i like he wide angel aspect of the Avermedia. but i'm sorta torn on what i like and dont like compared to the razer. and it just might come down to you setup the razer last and might have moved the other cameras around a bit to accommodate it. and if you use manual focus. the optimal might have been the last one added. to me it looks like your mic is more in focus then you with the Avermedia. in any case. for me the prioritized checklist is: (1)focus (2)sharpness (3)hz (60 feels waaay better then 30) (4)colors/(hdr) i actualy dont think HDR is always better, as long as skin and people look okay. to me its okay that some background stuff looks maybe a bit different then it would in real life. if its a good viewing experience. just like movie magic. sometimes not looking natural is better. so depends from cam to cam if its a good implementation/calibration (5)wide angel (for talking head content. obviously not for headshot closeup overlays.

gotta say.. the price of a logitech c920 vs quality vs other cams its hard to beat. Yes I can buy a used Sony A5100 and camlink and mabye I will pay around 200$. But as a plug n play cam the logitech c920 is one of the cheapest/best webcams.

I was wondering what are your thoughts on the nexiogo webcam if you have used it. It seems to be a pretty nice webcam according to the Amazon reviews

i mean thats not quite how sdr vs hdr works. its a difference in color curve. HDR make a curve thats more accurate to how our eyes see...which is logarithmic vs what sdr does which is linear.

I bought the original razer kiyo, it was nothing but problems. Eventually it began making a high pitched whine(from the webcam itself) and wouldn't register anymore.

Awwww shucks I just got a Brio. I am very happy with the Brio though but I am no expert on this stuff. I truly like the plug and play.

i use Gopro and it works. i got the camlink copy from wish and it works fine.

While I never would buy the camera for $200. It was on sale last month for $80. I think it's worth it for that price. Maybe max of $100. It takes alot of effort to get the software correctly installed. In the end other programs still recognize it as USB video device. Granted it works but it was alot more effort I was hoping it will be. The reddit posts and Amazon reviews do more justice for that webcam.
