Judge Hyland sounds like the kindest most caring person I have heard in a long time. I would love to be around him.Especially if he is like this all the time. He just sounds kind and compassionate.
I am very impressed with how the prosecution is going step by step building their case and in the process not leaving the defense much room for a defense
Chandler made it very easy for them, but they still did a great job and the defense did terribly. Going "No, thank you." on almost all crosses, almost no objections and a trerrible strategy.
You know, there were lots of trauma and issues within our family... and yet, when both my parents were dying years apart of natural causes (dad cancer, mom congestive heart failure), I did everything possible to help them (drove them to Dr, got food, cooked meals, even changed their diapers, etc) and I sat with both parents for hours holding their hand on their last day, and was still holding their hand and talking to them when they took their last breath. Given all of that, I can't even imagine what this disgusting son did to his own parents. 😭
He doesn’t even look evil which is so weird usually they have that dark glare to them.. I would never suspect someone that looks like him to be like that if I saw him in a gas station..
@@giovanna8187 Yes you are right, That's what I'll never understand when people say something like that? wOw, "They have a dark glare to them" lol 😆 NO they don't. They look like every normal sweet baby-faced person you pass by every day on the street I have no idea why some people say and think such things, I'm guessing they watch too many Hollywood t.v and movies. They need to start watching more real crime shows and reading up on them. Another way to get yourself captured by a serial killer, By thinking to yourself, (Oh, he looked normal and didn't have that dark glare) Geesh, 🤔
@@reichmuth100 There's a doc from 1988 called " The Thin Blue Line", about a cop killing. One man is in prison for the crime, but the director of the film is questioning someone else who's i nvolved. Really interesting things come to light that show exactly the point we're making.
This is one of the most well run trials I’ve ever seen…annnnd I’ve prob seen waaaaay too many 🤦♀️ The prosecution and the judge are both very precise and organized. There’s no screwing around or unnecessary delays and I’m here for it 🙌🙌
This county, the judge, prosecutor, law enforcement & witnesses are all very professional, organized, polite, and efficient. All trials should be this smooth.
God bless this Doctor. The skill, knowledge and poise in delivery of testimony by this medical examiner was outstanding and so very important in a case like this. A true professional.
This is the defendants fathers body they are talking about. No emotion. This is Your fathers torso . His legs and arms and head have been cut off and he shows no ammout of horror seeing what's been done to HIS FATHER.
Because he already knew what had happened to his father, since he did it. This guy has absolutely no conscience, no compassion, and is a total narcissist. Sick twist.
It always amuses me that anyone is surprised that a ruthless killer behaves like... a ruthless killer! If Chandler Halderson were the type of person to show emotion over photos of his parents' corpses, he would not be the kind of person who could shoot them dead, dismember, burn, transport and dump their body parts.
It's funny that this monstrous act took place in July 2021, and Prosecutors and Defense already started this Trial in January 2022, speedy and quick in Wisconsin
I thought the same. Very impressive how quickly the state moved to get each piece ready for trial just 6 months after the commission of the murders. Just really outstanding and impressive work. And I also thought about how the Daybell, Morphew, Stauch, and other high profile cases are just languishing along, while the victims' families suffer through delay after delay. So heartbreaking.
The prosecution team is KILLING it!!!!!! I mean, there is no slither of reasonable doubt. I thought the video of the fire all night was the nail in the coffin, but video of purchasing the tarp so early (not to mentioned DNA evidence), chaz should just take a plea but he is arrogant enough to think he can get away with this!!!!
There's a lot of evidence. However the only thing that bothers me is that it seems like he wouldn't of been alone in this. It's too perfect. Some things perfect, some so sloppy. At the beginning I was like you, now I'm starting to think there's something missing
The tarp? Really? For me..the nail was the chard head of his Mother!! Oh but wait.. sweet boy,.. how incredibly thoughtful to put it back in the fireplace after he cleaned it?? Fhuuuuk..
Don’t think he could take a plea… seeing this was not a death penalty case .. it was an automatic life sentence. There was no wiggle room for plea deal imo. Defence had nothing to lose by going to trial in hope that one juror feels sorry for this pos… thus reducing the sentence - not gunna happen! ( just my take on it :)
The prosecution is building an impressive case. I know he's considered innocent at this point, but I'm wondering why he didn't just plead guilty and get it over with.
Because he’s a narcissist and a pathological liar. He thinks that he did such a good job concealing, that he will be able to lie his way out of this. In the meantime cost in the state of Wisconsin a lot of money. There is not much I enjoy more than watching a narcissist be held accountable in a public setting (Robert Durst for example). Just my opinion 😉
The state would not agree to a plea deal, so he would get the maximum sentence given in Wisconsin which is life in prison. So, he might as well go for a trial for the minuscule chance the jury finds in his favor. It’s a total waste of time and money for the people of Wisconsin, but he sees that as potential to be found not guilty… thankfully, I HIGHLY doubt that will ever happen.
That is why I was wondering if there would be an appeal with the excuse that he had ineffective counsel. These ladies just don’t seem to be raising ANY defense. But I doubt there is any. Maybe it will happen when they make their case.
That woman that was behind him at the check out at the store where he bought the tarp, was oblivious then (and probably still) that she was standing next to a guy who brutally hacked his parents to death. Shows that you don't know who you are standing next to and what they are capable of. Crazy world.
How did he even think that this was his last option? Why didn’t he just get a job like he planned to after murdering his parents? They seemed so sweet and understanding. Worst case scenario is that they might have kicked him out after learning of all of the lies, but I’m sure Kat’s parents would’ve let him stay with them. This psychopath probably felt so accomplished and proud as he sawed away at their bodies. So sad and disgusting that killing his parents is the only thing he ever completed.
I don’t think they even have one. They have done very little during cross examination if at all, every time the judge gives them an opportunity they either ask an irrelevant question or say “no thank you”.
The defense attorney in this case of pure evidence is to set back and object to things that can be not that they need to be. So they can guarantee his rights are not being lost and a fair trial. They are accomplishing a perfect trial so Chandler will not be able to fight the guilty verdict later. I keep typing " trail" instead of " trial". That don't even look right to me at the moment. I need Google. Lol
He knew he was going to jail, he had nothing to lose. He figured he may as well enjoy being the centre of attention in court for the last time, before he's locked in a cage and forgotten about by everyone - including his former friends and family!
They can't admit even to themselves that they did something wrong. Also, they want the right to appeal if they are convicted. When you plead guilty, no appeal rights.
I will tell you why sometimes they don’t plea guilty, it’s bcuz they really think that they could get away with murder. Not knowing that the judge will punish u more for wasting his time for a trial that could be avoided!
My 3rd comment. Can't help myself. This must be the hardest this monster ever worked in his life. Imagine: shoot parents, cut up the bodies, shop for tarp, ice and cleaning supplies, finding spot to discard bodies, all night keeping fireplace burning, running door to door looking for cameras, make a fort to sleep, visit girlfriend....exhausting
Not that I would ever do anything like that but I’d just go straight to the police and hand myself in. Anyone who has seen a crime show or even a movie would have an idea of how much work all that would be. No wonder everyone said he looked tired.
This guy did everything except hold up a sign on the side of the road that said I killed my parents to prove how guilty he was for killing and cutting up his parents.
Does anyone else feel that he is gonna have a case on appeal because of “ineffective counsel” or is it just me? I have tried to watch all of this and his attorneys just don’t seem to be trying to raise ANY reasonable doubt. I am not sure if there is any but as a defense attorney I would think they would try. Am I thinking right?? Please be nice… I am old.
Hahaha. I love you…”please be nice I’m old” is going to be what I say after any comment I make😉 I agree he will be able to have a case on appeal because of this. But I think this is only happening on the slim chance that the jury won’t find him guilty. There is zero doubt that he did this. I think most cases go onto appeal. But what do I know😏 Have a good life my friend 😊
I agree that the defense could be a bit more aggressive, however this is a style choice and not necessarily ineffective. We will see more once the defense presents their case. As of now, I am not seeing any errors that would warrant a new trial on appeal, and I worked in the court system for over 20 years so do have some knowledge.....
@@NeatNoodle Thank you for your thoughts and your knowledge. I just thought it looks ineffective but if it’s a defense style…. Well.. maybe it’s a style that works!
When the lady was asked how many possible shots lead to Bart's demise and she said without the presence of all the body parts she couldn't be sure --- I thought ' why not ask him, he's sitting a few feet away''
Around the 54 min marker the prosecutor stopped herself from calling the witness "she" to "they", clearly remembering some kind of pronoun convo they had. Both sides were also very gentle with Cat & her mom. Respectful lawyers.
I'm curious of what his breaking point was and why he killed his parents? I understand about his parents questioning school and job but was he like this earlier in his youth and hit the boiling point? I just find it so horrified of why you'd kill your parents because of his status.
The dad was to him, in emails to whom he thought was the college's reps, he said the words: “ unless thers's something we don't know” or words to that effect. That was one year before the murders, those emails were created and maintained by Chandler up until the time of the footage of the fireplace room via cctv.
This medical examiner is “SHARP” very well spoken, seeing chandler listening to ALL OF THIS TESTIMONY MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL. SICK MIND CRUEL HOPE HE GETS SAME FATE
Wow I got here and was like "wait, what happened to the cross examination of the fire guy? I know they skipped everyone else, but are they seriously not gonna challenge him at all?" It was, of course, a "no thank you" in the last minute of the previous video. Bonkers
If they can't make any inroads into the prosecution's case, there's no point in getting the prosecution's witness to reaffirm (re-state) what they just said on direct examination. In other words, why give them a chance to repeat what they said for the prosecution under defense questioning? It weakens your case. Clearly this case was all about the prosecution being held to proving each element of each of the charges. The only defense was to see if one juror would be a hold out and hang the jury. Chandler Halderson left so much evidence and did so much talking to neightbors, family, girlfriend, girlfriend's family, media interviews, and finally all the police testimony. LE locked him in to all his lies and there was no way he was going to testify after that.
So his attorney seriously just asked why there were AT LEAST three gunshot wounds? Really? Is she brain dead? I’d body parts are missing there is no certainty of how many times a person was shot. I’m not a cop, medical person, just an ordinary person and I know this. Geez…attorneys can be idiots at times.
Watching all the experts in their fields Chan is probably realizing how unsmart he really is. And maybe even understanding why people work to become good at something.
I hope he had to take a public defender and the family doesn’t have to pay for his attorney. Once you kill someone especially your parents you shouldn’t be able to use Their money inheritance or not.
How to pass an examination to be a defense lawyer: Repeat after me~~"No objection". I haven't yet heard ANYONE being cross examined by her. Is she setting it up to be an appeal for "ineffective counsel" or, is she actually THAT incompetent?
When defense cross examined the ME, ALL of her questions were totally innocuous and elicited absolutely nothing germane as to whom fired the shots. She is truly ineffective and incompetent.
Like with the Target worker all she asked was when was the card used there previously? What does that have to do with him there on camera purchasing the tarp? His lawyers are crap.
Why does LISA look so good with bLUE hair??!! Don’t usually like colored hair and don’t usually see it on mid aged folks but dang SHE IS ROCKIN IT!! LIKE IF U AGREE
It’s easier to dispose of body parts than the entire body. The body parts can be scattered about, thus making it harder for law enforcement to collect evidence, unless the criminal puts them next to each other, like this genius did.
I'm so glad that Chandler will always have the images in his mind of his mom and dad's lifeless faces burned into his memory. I hope he never forgets the smells and sounds present when he dismembered them. He's a true monster.
@@June-tb4vi Your absolutely no right!! I am on day 2.. It's 20 minutes of kouswork, 25 minutes of live court..well kinds. I would at some point I"d like get in on a live chat..
Would someone please explain why the prosecutors are permitted to examine witnesses with leading questions? I’ve never seen this before without objections from the defense.
The leading questions are in those situations where a witness is just going to identify certain items of evidence which are already known to the defense. It is more efficient to allow leading questions for that purpose. There have been a few times when the defense counsel objected to a leading question that was not of that nature.
That is a great point I did not even notice. He does not have air conditioning, so maybe he is so skinny that he gets cold in stores with air conditioning? lol
They are not surprised about the facts. The evidence has been shown to both sides during pre trial examination. What can I say? The facts are clear n not at all ambiguous.
I think defence tried to claim maybe not Chandler, perhaps someone else posing as Chandler made the purchase. To me it showed he couldn't use parent's cards for traceability reasons. He was a free loader.
I think the prosecution showed too many evidence videos and some of them were not necessary for instance the videos of neighbor next door from his private phone recording the conversation between the neighbor and Chandler.. all they need was information of chandler going to the neighbor and why he went there. The video was very time consuming. And there were other things like this matter..
