honestly, anyone who will challenge this is just straight up wrong. 1. it's super cool and creative 2. it honors the history of the game and hobby 3. ITS ALL MADE FROM ORIGINAL GW PARTS YA DINGUS. it's more or less an official mini.
Some would say that by the logic of #3, you'd allow people to show up to tournaments with minis made of glued together bits of sprue. They would argue this sarcastically, but I would say "yes" unironically. Life is too short and our economic system too shit to worry about that sort of thing. You paid for that overpriced plastic. You should be allowed to use "the whole buffalo", as it were. Plus, it would be funny.
@@Bluecho4 for my part i dont really care that much about number three, its just to properly put a cap on the whiners. i'm fully onboard with everything from casting to printing to custom minis and even minis from other companies as long as its immediately recognizable.
Base correct, the Jetbike dude gets "Fly", all weapons are correctly represented on the model, basically the right size... I can't see any resonable person refuse to let you use him like that. You've done everything correct, and he looks cool! ;D
My only thought (as a person that does not play the tabletop game myself) is that maybe a possible argument could be made about the silhouette. Is it easier to get cover/line of sight? Since I do not know how the official model stacks up, I cannot say, but the assault marine at 4:40 seems to have about the same height, I would agree that there should be no problem.
@@AvaniDK That shouldn't make a difference. Models can have all kind of stands. Since every bit that can be seen by an enemy unit counts as "line of sight" and the model is considered in cover as long as his base (which has the correct size) is 2" away from an obstacle or in building this model would have no problem to work normally.
Ain't there something at one point where GW said that older models still count as their modern equivalent, for a modern example, old vs new chaos marines. Edit: didn't watch the whole vid, thought BA got jet bikes, it really is up to his opponent to let him use it but if he plans to bring it to a tournament then he would have to check with whoever does the checking of this stuff at tournaments.
Agree with you there. The bike serves well at indicating a jump-pack, the weapons seem appropriate, and he's on the same size base. If only 40k had a Silhouette stat on datacards, like Infinity does, to sidestep all that "modelling for advantage" stuff!
As for me or the people I usualy play against, none of us would mind him being used as a jump pack Lieutenant. Size of the miniature is pretty much the same as a normal marine jumping around on his jump pack, plus rule of cool for having a tiny jetbike.
Genuinely laughed out loud in my office at the 'great devourer of miniatures' joke. Too relatable, the carpet in my room is constantly stealing gubbins
any time I open my box o' bits I am extremely cautious, although I have gotten better at finding fallen things, it is still bad when something really tiny falls off the table
As an extremely casual 40k player, I'd definitely be down with letting this be a thing in any game, in fact I'd probably even be a little lenient with the rules. I play for fun after all, and seeing a tiny beaky biker boy with his massive girlfriend seems pretty fun for me.
I would love to see that on the table top, old models are awesome. I actually have a captain from the early 90's and he is not only a lot smaller than modern marines, he is hilariously tiny compared to a Primaris Aggressor. I usually run him as a Lieutenant because he lacks a lot of flair a modern captain has. Also, congrats on Bike Beakie on having a huge girlfriend, I am very proud.
Cardboard how? Like cutouts or actual models? I made cardboard Ork tanks back in the day, a gobsmasher and a lungbursta. They were out of an old White Dwarf article. Wish I knew what happened to them...
That looks bad ass. Hell I'd play against it any day as it's a joy to see such a unique model in someone's army tbh. Ya gotta try and make a small squad of jet bikers if you can Wib. That would be beyond awesome
I personally think it'd be extremely fun to fight one of these on the tabletop :) My first conversion project was turning the Captain in Cataphracti Terminator armor from the Betrayal at Calth box set into a Rune Priest in Terminator armor. Needless to say it turned out really well
Didn't they stop using the lead in their models and move to isobh what they called "white metal" after that, as a safer alternative? That's how I remember it.
i feel you you on the carpet thing. i had a minotaur model that i dropped in a enclosed 3ftx3ft area at the bottom of my stairs and the jaw came off. never found it. it was about 7 years ago and i still look for it to this day. it still baffles me how i never discovered it after losing it in such a small space. i even put a mesh over the end of the hoover pipe so i didnt suck it up but still no luck.
That is some nice work. That is some impressive work on that. I think the offset is perfect, as it puts the center of gravity/weight of the bike over the center of the base with that bank you put it in. I didn't know if you knew about it, but most of us in the US used superglue to put the metal figures together. They can be taken apart by applying/soaking them in acetone-based fingernail polish remover.
It's well painted, well converted, an interesting model in its own right, and it makes sense in context. That's all I ask from a miniature when it's used as a proxy!
Anything BUT THE DAMN CARPET!!!! Just last night, I was building a Blood Angel Tac. Marine w/ a Plasma Gun, but then, his Power pack fell!!!! DAMN YOU CARPET!!! DAMN YOU!!!!
I've used the building up method with minis before, using green stuff. It seems to get lost under the texture paint, so you always have to use more than you think. I recommend using it, it looks better than just flat bases when you do it right.
Hey, Its an old GW model so mad cred. An arkeotech jetbike is a perfect stand in for a jetpack to give flavor to the unit, especially for a HQ unit. Keep on modeling heretic-vampire-emo-boy!
Very cool model and you did a fantastic job. Thanks for sharing. I'd absolutely love to see your model across the table from my forces. Very fun. My own army has a mix of models going back to the early days.
on the public service announcement if you're filing high lead content miniatures it is a MUST that you have some way of venting it away from you wear a dust mask and put your hoover on nearby (not right next to it though), you wouldn't want to accidentally suck up any parts but it'll take all the dust away from your nose and mouth stopping you from getting a little lead poisoning
Another really interesting video, loads of thanks. The bit on the top is a sensor, the bikes only had 2 bolters (which are the one on the lower sides). [el'sda2].
Rule of cool permanently overrides all other rules. It's in the rulebook. Just like the rules about taking allies with your main army. It's like, these are the rules, but if they really want to, they can be allies for this battle, its fine
I'm always Okay with stand in projects like that, as long as the stand in unit is distinct enough to not be confused for something else on the field and when you look at it roughly represents it,
RULE OF COOL: any day, any time, anywhere as long as the stuff modeled is "what u see is sorta what u get" (like the storm bolter, and power sword actually "represented" on the model)
Thematically works and looks cool! If you could get beakie to swing his inside leg out as if he's about to turn on the spot, I think it would give the model more of that in motion feel you seem to be going for. Though you'd also have to make him right-handed so it looks like he's swinging for someone as he turns.
Fantastic to see old Rouge Trader Models back on the table with a nice paint job. However Lieutenant is pronounced "Left-Tenant". (Loootenant) is an Americanism)😉
Bearing in mind that GW and its IP is British owned and Run, the British pronunciation is correct. And is the correct pronunciation that was used in the colonial period before the French sponsored American Revolutionary war.
@@wolfshead1978 except for the fact that a lot of British people say it the "American" way. also, If you're going to bring the french into this then I should point out that pretty sure that lieutenant is one of the words that the British adopted from the french speaking Normans so technically the "correct" pronunciation would be loo-ten-on.
A lot of the people use the American pronunciations due to Media over exposure of American pop culture. It also adds to the loss of regional dialects and the poor understanding of our own cultural heritage. You may think that the "British are just wrong" but GW is a British company with British IP and a background written by (Mainly) British writers. Good point that the Yanks were stuck in a Warp Storm and isolated in a time that the Red Coats might invade again so they must have a right to bear Muskets and Dr Johnston's English Dictionary hasn't been written yet. The US Soldiers that I served with had no problem with using "Left-Tenant" for British, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand 1 and 2 Pips.
Though I have themed Armies with Different Rank Structures, I do like to give my Marine Armies a Roman feel so use: Decurion = Sgt Optio = Lt Centurion = Captain Tribune or Legate = Chapter Master
I actually played against an entire unit of RTB 01 Bikers recently at a small event , he was just running them as a normal bikes ... felt fine to me . As for competitive events .... you could easily run this as a Blood angels Smash Captain ... and call the bike " the Angels wing" ... a Relic .... jump pack .... yes ;-)
that bike looks so much like an imperial cruiser that all i can picture is a marine riding one of those coin operated kiddy rides you find outside supermarkets......
Nice work I like it, I would never have a problem anyone using something like that. The only people that would are tournament organisers and your opponent's most likely.
Personally, I would be ecstatic to see someone using these older models in their modern 40k army. I would spend way too much of our game time gushing over the mini and paintjob. Of course that's because I also collect RT era marines and vehicles. Well done Wib!
Looks great, would be honoured to play against such a retro marine. Love old 40k content, can't get enough of it. ;) Feels like I want to make one of my Deathwatch bois an Argent Warden. Do you have any lore for them?
I welcome players to use cool things like this, I love conversions and "counts-as" as long as it's clear what the model represents. I used to have a couple of lead IG jetbikes, back when dinosaurs ruled the Earth.
