The period lamenters army is probably the single army I'm most jealous of in any Warhammer RU-vid collection. I dont play 40k anymore nor have i ever collected lamenters but there is something so nostalgic about it. I wasn't around in that era but i remember picking up loads of old minis ( sadly since lost) and ancient 80s white dwarfs in a combination of bootsales and Fridayad listings in the late 90s when such a thing were still possible for pocket money and pouring over the pages for hours and hours. Even by the 90's standards the things in there were mysterious and goofy, "Beaked helmets and studs!?" Better times.
I’m definitely a product of 3rd edition but I’d be quite keen - with the help of somebody with a 3D printer ideally - to do a Rogue Trader era force as well. What’s another Space Marine army between friends, anyway? Wib’s Lamenters are definitely pretty inspirational in this regard. I think the only thing holding me back is deciding on an appropriate chapter.
Had myself the idea of Bretonnian Stormcasts for a while… Wanted to give them a lore based on the old Grail Knights… They pretty much are all Emerald claded guardians of lakes and esoteric sites leading into the Tomb of « A long dead God »…
The Paint-job on the Vindicator is wonderful. It really captures the Gary Chalk look of early GW products like Talisman. The Rebel Grot flag is something to be rightly proud of; it is very Orky and very Grotty. Oh, my Sigmar! That Bretoncast Eternal is a great bit of work. All the best to Wib and Snipe and Baby Grogu.
I love the RT graffiti! I recently painted an Eliminator so that his camo cloak had (probably from his perspective - annoyingly) blended in with a wall that was behind him, so that his cloak had anti-marine and anti-war graffiti replicated on it. Including the 'Marines Out' graffiti that two marine narcs can be seen busting a hoodlum for painting, in the RT rulebook... I love that era so much!
The One Big One is originally a reference to the post-apocalyptic fantasy novel Riddley Walker, where it's the term used for the atom bomb. Another of those little contemporary cultural allusions popular in RT-era GW stuff.
the 'No Gorks No Morks' touch is utter brilliance I love it. Also those Brettonian Stormcast are super similar to a series of Stormcast I'm also painting at the moment, also themed after the Howling Griffons!
Amazing work with these minis. That bretonnian Stormcast really makes me hope for GW to make more bretonnian stuff in the future, the poor lads deserve it.
Another set of great models that have been painted wonderfully! I'm so happy to see another model that I sent get painted up so nicely. 🙂 I particularly like seeing your rebel Makari - my rebel grots have been joined by Makari, but in their case it's one of the modern plastic ones, which a friend gave to me for my birthday a couple of years ago. It also came with some ork or other in the kit, but whoever he is he's still on the sprue...
When I see the Stormcast Brettonian, I can't help but think of a 90s cartoon called King Arthur and the Knights of Justice. Regardless, It's always nice to see what you've been working on.
Really loving the Bretonnia-cast conversion. FOR THE LADY! (As an aside, consider doing up the other Stormcast models in a different color scheme. It's what Bretonnians and Real Life knights tended to do, as they were all their own lords with their own colors and heraldry.)
Wib, I once looked up my family heraldry and it's a black chevron on a white shield. Now I'm not saying you should do that for a Stormcast Bretonnian, I'm just saying it would look really cool on the one with the antlers on his helmet
There's something odd about seeing a bretonnian stormcast, since one is a faction that got neglected by GW and the other is the poster child of the game that "killed" its predecessor. That aside, lovely paintjobs!
How very dare you make the political satire game political by adding a political reference that nobody other than you would have been able to decipher to your political faction army which is based on the idea of a real political faction.
