This is our drive from Wichita, Kansas to Holly, Colorado.
Where we entered Colorado, is near the lowest elevation in the entire state, at 3,350 ft.
We thoroughly enjoying seeing the farms and open prairies that Kansas is known for.

We were in Kansas once. What I remember is how flat it was and miles and miles of sunflowers as far as the eye could see. We drove for 8 hours and it did not seem like were were getting anywhere because the scenery never changed the entire time. Thanks for taking me along on your drive through Kansas. I enjoyed it. The Lord sure did make our country diverse with a lot of different landscapes and beauty.

Yes, He sure did. It is very different, but I love it. It does get flatter, the further west you go. Eastern Kansas actually has some hills. Not high ones, but at least it's not pancake flat like the western part is. Thank you for watching. Very glad you enjoyed it. She loves sunflowers. I honestly wish we had seen more of them.

@NCMemoryMakers we drove all the way across the state from Kansas City Missouri all the way to Colorado. I agree. It got extremely flat. Flat like a pancake.

New sub here. Sent here by vafunseekers, a really fine Christian family. This is the first year since 2013 that I've not driven cross-country. Circumstances beyond my control prevented it. Maybe next year! Have driven across Kansas a couple of times on the interstate. Not as nice a drive as yours on this video. Really enjoyed the music bed. Explored a little bit off the freeway on my trips,, though. Stay blessed!

We so much appreciate you coming over here. Yes, we enjoy every time we get together with them. They are a great family and very nice people. We thank you for watching, and we hope you get to make that cross-country trip again soon. We've never driven Kansas on the interstate. Every time I've ever been to Kansas, it was on this stretch right here. We have come in from Missouri, further east of Wichita, on Highway 54. We flew into Wichita this time.

The only thing I don't like about it, is all the flat land. I am used to all our good mountains here. It's neat to other states though. Thank you for letting us see. Have a safe and blessed day. ❤❤😊

It certainly is very different than Western North Carolina, that's for sure. I will always love our mountains, but a change of scenery is nice. I do love the prairie states, as well.

This Southeast Kansas girl can vouch it's not flat here! Lots of vegetation, black jack oak trees. Hilly, as we're close to the Ozark Mountains. I've never been any further west than Cheney Lake outside Wichita. It was winter and there were actually frozen white caps on the lake! Thanks for the drive...nice seeing things about our great state I've never seen before!

Yes, the Eastern part of Kansas has some hills and more trees. When we have been driving (not flying into Wichita like we did this time), we have always entered on Highway 54 in Fort Scott. I love the entire state, from east to west. It really does flatten out just after Pratt, though. But I think it is beautiful.

@@gaylam6378 That was back in 1995, and we actually drove then. We took I-40 into Oklahoma, and then got off of it and went up the Muskogee Turnpike to Tulsa, and then 412 West over to I-35 to Wichita.

My wife and I were out in Wichita years ago. Going from there up to Kansas City seeing the remote rough terrain I was struck by how difficult it must have been to travel that in wagons or by stagecoach. I was thankful for interstate highways and an air-conditioned car. BTW the temperature was 102 the day we left Witichata.

It hit 100 in Dodge City that evening. We got to Wichita at night, and left early the next morning, so it was still cool. And very windy. But I think it was supposed to be very hot that day.

I’m ashamed my geography lessons have left me from LONG ago, but while I understand biodiversity of plains vs. desert vs. mountains, you mentioned the absence of trees out on the prairie. Is that just the nature of the prairie or have some trees also been cleared by farmers and ranchers to expand their usable land?
@NCMemoryMakers
@NCMemoryMakers Месяц назад
I guess it's possible there's been some clearing, but the western states tend to have fewer trees. I think that's just pretty much the way Kansas is, especially in the west. The eastern part has more trees.

Only the south west part of Kansas is flat. Most of the state is rolling hills. The eastern half except for the Flint Hills has lots of trees. You are doing the state an injustice by only filming one area and calling the whole state flat as a pancake.
@NCMemoryMakers
@NCMemoryMakers Месяц назад
@@edbennett6922 You are doing an injustice by not bothering to watch, or listen to what was said, before you make an uninformed comment. Sir, we literally filmed over 300 miles, from Wichita to the Colorado border. Not sure how that is "only filming one area". Tell me you didn't actually watch the video, without telling me you didn't actually watch the video. I said, more than once, that it gets flatter the further west one goes, and I also said the Eastern part has hills. Furthermore, I nowhere said "the whole state is flat as a pancake". I said the western parts past Dodge City were. In addition to that, I even used the term "Pratt is flat", and mentioned that the state starts to flatten out just west of that town. That OBVIOUSLY implies that, east of Pratt, it is more hilly. And even beyond that, I did not "do an injustice". I even complimented the flat areas as VERY scenic, and said that I loved those parts. So, don't come on here making it sound like I insulted the state, that I CLEARLY, and numerous times, said I enjoy driving through. As for the trees, I ALSO CLEARLY SAID that there were trees in Wichita, and areas east of that, than in the western part of the state. Your comments here are so inaccurate, that I have to question if you are even responding to the correct video, and possibly meant this for another RU-vidr who actually made the statements you think I made, but did not. Try paying attention next time. You obviously weren't this time.
@NCMemoryMakers
@NCMemoryMakers Месяц назад
@edbennett6922 In fact, since you did not bother to actually listen to the video you are criticizing, I will point out where you can find my statements. Beginning at the 0:55 mark (literally not even 1 minute into the video, I am complimenting the state, and talking about how "I LOVE KANSAS"), up until the 4:05 minute mark, I CLEARLY state that it "gets flatter and flatter, the further west you go". This is just the opposite of what you claim I said. I am clearly NOT saying "the whole state is flat as a pancake". Surely you got as far as the first 4 minutes in the video, before deciding to comment and criticize, didn't you? A few seconds later, I said it "is a beautiful state". It would seem you did not even bother yourself to watch until the 4:00 minute mark. Next, go to the 4:58 minute mark, where I said it is flat "in a lot of areas", but "very scenic". Again, clearly not saying "the whole state is flat as a pancake". Next, go to the 6:48 minute mark. Again, you completely got it wrong. In this segment, I CLEARLY said that past the town of Pratt, is where it starts to "get flat as a pancake", and that is also where I said "the hills really started to flatten out". Now, why would I have said "the hills start to flatten out", unless I am acknowledging there are hills?? That's a far cry from saying "the whole state is flat as a pancake". Now, perhaps you should go to the 24:29 minute mark, where I am complimenting the beauty of the state. At 24:46, I did use the "flat as a pancake" analogy, and then complimented it and said "I like that". And, in fact, it IS flat in that section west of Dodge City. So, clearly you were not listening at all. Perhaps you should not criticize a video or its makers, until you actually watched and listened to it. In fact, there are not that many people who have done a video across the state as we just did, to the extent we did, and complimented it the way we did. And everything we said about the state, was complimentary. Not ONE negative statement in the video. I think we did the state a very nice service. We spent money there, tried to support a town that was wiped out by a tornado, brought out the western history and heritage of the state, and said nothing but good things about it the entire trip. Do better, Sir. You owe us an apology. I doubt you will bother to do so, but if you had integrity, you would. Your statements were completely false, uninformed, and unwarranted. You clearly did not watch or listen to the video at all.
