Check out the new trailer compilation for WICKED, a fantasy movie starring Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo and Jeff Goldblum. In theaters November 27, 2024.
I can suspend disbelief for a lot of things in the fantasy genre, but the impracticality of seeing gears open to the elements on the front of that train is wild😂
Sprocket cog gears might seem primitive to us as "Clock Punk candles" of barbarian times Pre 1820 or "Steam Punk Gaslight" of Victorian Times Pre 1920 so consider how Charlie Chaplin had a silent film "Modern Times" where a "Lil Tramp" protagonist is fed my machine to later almost be ingested and eaten by sprocket cogs of machinery trying to increase productivity. Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" written by a German baroness explored such an issue of having to service a coal powered steam engines as sacrifices to dragons for horror of Anti American propaganda while Charlie Chaplin delved into worker alienation for comedy being a west coast bohemian. Even Frank Herbert's "Dune" of early 1960s "Analog" and later films had a scenario of sandworms as living locomotive trolley trains of rail transit so in of a 1984 filmed version a mutated into a walrus creature of a Navigator Guild Steersman arrives in a palace inside an aquarium resembling a locomotive with an attendant using a vintage 8 ball microphone to converse with a Padasha Emperor Shadam IV since even "Futurama" had an episode of on Mars where tourists ride on gigantic caterpillars. Such filmmakers are trying suggest such a train is a gigantic creature ironic since a Kaiju or 1950s gigantic monster genre on terrestrial land would have sunk into topsoil detritus regolith by Cube Square or Square Cube so therefore Warsaw Pact built swamps to stop NATO's armored tank aggression until those Yanks parachuted their armored tanks. Also it is a mystery of how ancient megaliths were quarried and moved into place so ironically what archaeologists refer to relief carvings and manuscript scrolls as "Depictions of battering rams" could have actually been depictions of locomotives and tractors of how they would have written daily work as "warfare of siege engines" and consider how such filmmakers try to play down how locomotives are Freudian metaphors of male sexual aggression of how Outdoor Garden Rail enthusiasts ride astride a locomotive's cab where a fireman would shovel coal from a rear tender.
Not a musical, so breaks with the Oz canon, imo. Not that I like musicals but this kind of movie needs that jazz. Grande is a singer, but does she get to sing?
