I just got another 3 laps on this yesterday, all in the back row, and it was absolutely hauling through the third lap. Not a single moment felt slow or drawn out. The airtime was unreal back there, with some major pops of ejector airtime on the first drop and the double down, as well as some great hang time on each of the inversions. I still think that this is still a top-tier RMC.
Wicked Cylone is running absolutely insane this year! The speed and airtime normally that you would only get on a rainy day, is every day! The ops are doing great too, I saw a few times when they were waiting for a train to come back. Zipper pouches have been added too!
The best small scale (~100ft) hybrid in my opinion. Wows me every time I ride it. That outerbank is one of the wildest airtime moments I’ve ever experienced
The last time I saw them play the safety video was probably 2018 or 2017. I wish they still played it all the time though, because one of my favorite parts of the experience was hearing the guy say “there is no time for selfies in the vortex of a storm”
Good review, although I have no other RMC to compare it to. In fairness, I’m a 75-year-old guy and a fan of older wooden coasters, and Wicked Cyclone was my first and only RMC coaster. While I appreciate both the technology and the design that RMC brings to its coasters, and while I understand why they are so popular, they are definitely not for everyone. For my taste, it was a bit too intense. I don’t consider a “grey-out”, for example, to be a desirable feature of any ride. Second, the layout was appropriately chaotic feeling, given the storm theme of the ride, but I prefer my ride “narratives” to be a bit more predicable. That allows me to prepare my mind and body for what’s to come-my older body is not like a 20-something one. Finally, and honestly most annoying, was the lack of handholds. I had to grip awkwardly around the waist constraints, and it was not comfortable or comforting. I’ll note in passing that in the seats behind me were a middle-aged mother and her teen daughter, both of whom were newbies to big roller coasters and they were both pretty stressed by the ride. None of us had fun on it. That said, I’m happy RMC exists for the history and future of coasters, but they attract a very thrill-seeking ridership, and you might recognize that for future reviews. Personally, I really hope that RMC begins to design more family-friendly coasters, the way that The Gravity Group has done.
The original Riverside cyclone genuinely hurt a lot but I absolutely loved it. I rode it 13 consecutive times without getting off the ride in one of it's last seasons with the old steal lap bar style cars. The lap bars would beat up your thighs and if you kept your arms up for the whole ride you'd elbow your friend in the face. Great times.
Let me just say this... I just got off the Cyclone 6 times yesterday and I haven't ridden it since it's opening year. It is WAYYY faster now. I mean the ejector was beyond wild. Literally the first outer bank turn and the "shilke special" and even the FINAL outerbank after the zero g roll and before the break run all provided some of the strongest ejector I've ever felt. In fact the first two were stronger than that of the infamous Rolling thunder hill on El toro (and I've ridden El toro in the back row 4 times this year and 40+ times previously). I'll preface this - Cyclone was the first ride of the day as soon as park opened. We got a front and back row ride. My girlfriend LOVED it. Was her new favorite coaster immediately. After a huge rainstorm (which actually almost never let up) we got back on the ride around 6pm. We got back row... It was hauling like nothing nothing I've ever felt before. In fact my girlfriend could only ride it twice in a row cause it was so painful on her thighs from the ejector - she got on a third time in the front row so it'd be a little less intense but she came off and was like no. I can't do it again, you'll have to go alone. She's like I prefer it when it's a little slower cause this is too much now. She's still complaining about how her thighs feel NOW. Lol. So I got my final ride alone in the backrow and that's even when I was like ok yeah I can't do it again - it's too intense lol. At that point it felt like Skyrush 😂
I think this gets overlooked because it just a very RMC-ish RMC with no notable traits outside of that. Iron Rattler has the wall. Twisted Colossus has the dueling. Steel Vengeance has the size. This doesn't really have a THING associated with it but like you said it's still everything you expect from RMC and is one of my favorites.
@@CanobieCoaster Yeah not having a super unique trait like the other RMCs I mentioned doesn't affect the ride for me. I still love it. Just my theory why it doesn't get more attention.
I caught a ride before close the other day, and it was absolutely hauling ass on the last lap! Typically it meanders at the end when I ride too, but this past experience blew me away! Maybe it’s because it was the end of the day and we had a full train, but if you get lucky it’s a whole different beast with that speed at the end.
The fact that an RMC towards the bottom of the hybrids is still in competition for the best ride in the park truly proves how great of a company RMC is
I just road my first rmc steel vengeance. It was amazing but I need more rides to fully take it in 😅. I wish my home park kings island would add an rmc but with cedar point and Kentucky kingdom near by we probably won’t get one
I rode this again last weekend. Still brilliant, and, no, I think it's just the right length. No issues with the third lap. This time, there was actually a breakdown while I was standing in line--an issue with a restraint in the front row of the orange train, which I think wouldn't latch. They fixed it in short order but then had to take a half-hour+ to test run and get authorized to reopen. But I patiently waited because it's Wicked Cyclone. One thing it likely doesn't have in common with the newer RMCs is that, since they didn't enlarge the lift (and in fact made it slightly shorter) the first drop is nothing special by modern RMC standards. It's good--certainly very steep and quick--but it's not the ride's great strength. It's everything after that. Since this was built, RMC's enlarged truss-structure lift hills have become a signature element of their coasters, but Wicked Cyclone doesn't have one. An improvement that wasn't there early on is that Wicked Cyclone now has its own dedicated bank of lockers. The old sign by the Blizzard River/Skyscreamer lockers saying they're only for Wicked Cyclone is still there, though it makes no sense now.
I had the opportunity to go to 6 Flags New England yesterday for my 1st time, and I could say I had a blast on getting on Wicked Cyclone and Superman the Ride. Both came out to be the best coasters in the park. The rest were ok in my opinion. I will back someday again. It was an crazy and fun experience I will never forget.
I don't know what they did to their wheel compound but WC has been HAULING ASS the last two seasons (from what I can tell watching past POVs and off-rides), and for being my first RMC I've been nothing but blown away but it! I'm still at a modest 90 coasters but it's well within my Top 10 up to this point imo! 👍🤘 Awesome review man!
@@CanobieCoaster I've rode WC 56 times the past 3 years, and I do agree it has been running a bit slower again in 2022. I did however have a crazy experience in the front row recently that I've never got before where I got sustained floater down the drop in the front row- it was such an odd and amazing sensation I've never got on it any ride prior! I feel like Six Flags messes with this ride alot, so kudos for them trying to keep one of their marquee rides running great, even if they dont always hit the mark. I love your videos man! (Hence me rewatching many including this one!) Keep coastin brother! I wish you safe travels and fun times!
@Canobie Coaster WC is back in a big way! I just rode the blue train row 4 in 60 degree weather and the thing felt like it was trying to rip my legs off all the way to the brakes! I think it might finally be back in overdrive, let me know how your next rides go and if it compares to when it opened! Take care buddy!
Ride this thing at night! Especially in the rain. It really adds to the theming and theres a ton of lights scattered around inside the supports which add to a blurry aesthetic. The lights on the themed vehicles around the queue also flash at night.
I rode this for the first time yesterday, and it was also the first RMC I ever rode. I liked it a lot. It's totally different than any other coaster I've been on, with it's surprise ejector moments. I didn't have an issue with the pacing either. I still got airtime, even on the third lap. It's definitely best to let it warm up so it's running fast. It's my strong second favorite in the park, only behind Superman.
I love how you studied the animation “religiously”! Also, I’ve heard it’s been running a little faster in 2023, and as I went in June, I can confirm the third lap had some power to it(even on a very hot day)!
Coming back to this video again to again reiterate how much the ride experience changes depending on the time of the year/ weather. I was riding it this weekend and it was clocking in for the whole course at 48 seconds. When it runs like this I easily prefer it to Superman, however when it runs at its normal speed I prefer Superman by a wide margin. It is so interesting to me and always makes me happy to visit SFNE on a rainy day.
I just went on this for the first time today, and I’ve always wanted to try an RMC, and BOY am I glad I finally got the chance! I was absolutely BLOWN away!!! I rode it two times in a row, both in the front seat. I’ve never felt that kind of hang time “out of your seat” moments like that before on any ride in my life, especially on the inversions. I actually think the last inversion is one of the best on the ride due to the way it feels as though it lasts forever. My #1 ride in the park for sure!
@@CanobieCoaster Nice! It was my first RMC too even though I’ve obviously heard all about them and I love designing them in Planet Coaster. I was 1000% blown away
I rode this around 3 times just yesterday, and I'll say it's hard for me to decide if I like Superman or Cyclone more. Both are fantastic rides, and if anyone makes it to my local park they should 100% ride both of them.
@@CanobieCoaster I also prefer Superman. Wicked Cyclone has more powerful moments of airtime, but I prefer the more sustained airtime of Superman as well as the stronger layout.
Stomping out the beat of We Will Rock You was a tradition with the original Cyclone The old trains would sort of clunk out that beat while one train was departing and the next was creeping up to the station. If it's unintentional then that is one incredibly lucky coincidence and if it was a planned element then it's a genius little nod to the heritage of the ride. Either way it's one of the things I love about the experience of Wicked Cyclone. It helps to bring up the warm fuzzy feelings I have for one of my favorite coasters since childhood.
I don't doubt that the the airtime is stronger on this ride but I find it hard to believe it has more duration of airtime than Superman. Love the video, Thanks for posting!
I remeber a few year's ago during an event they had extended ride times for 3 rides not many knew about marathoned this coaster for 2 straight hours with 0 wait
It's my 5th favorite RMC out of the first 14 in the US. As someone who rarely greys out, I would partially grey out going through that turn after the drop. I was fortunate to have light crowds, so this usually didn't have a line, and I even got some rerides. People were saying that it was running great when I was there.
The only two RMC's I've been on are this and Steel Vengeance. My last road trip down south was before Hurler and Georgia Cyclone got their RMC work. Considering the structure they were working with Wicked Cyclone is such an impressive ride, and I'm glad it was my first RMC. It Is such a good ride but it doesn't spoil the other ones.
I rode this in 2021, and Wicked Cyclone was neck and neck with Superman the Ride for best coaster at the park. I also got a ton of zen rides, as the park was totally dead.
The first year I rode this thing and you would fly into the final brake run and get jolted out of you seat when you came to a stop. It’s still a fantastic ride and in my personal top 3 that I’ve ridden along with el toro and Boulder dash
It definitely loses steam at the end but considering that you still get fantastic airtime and a great inversion I can’t help but be eternally grateful for it!
I was there on Friday, October 8, and they inexplicably had 4 attendants checking restraints instead of just 2. They were dispatching really fast and barely stacking at all. As such, it had one of the shorter lines in the park.
I rode RMC converted Georgia cyclone to Twisted cyclone in 2019, the ride was intense from beginning to end. no long lines because it shut down for rain, my granddaughter and I waited no more than maybe 20 minutes we rode it back to back twice! RMC rules! RMC did a great job on Wicked cyclone it looks like the ride might be longer than Twisted cyclone by several more seconds
I live in Colorado so no good coasters here. You're living the good life traveling and going to all the parks. You've inspired me to go to save up and travel to some new parks to get my count up.
Rode this for the first time yesterday. It absolutely lived up to the hype. Very intense but so smooth. I am glad I had an idea of the layout before riding. I was already pretty close to my limit for the day but Wicked Cyclone wasn't overwhelming. (houdini took care of that)
The only RMC I've ridden was Twisted Timbers at Kings Dominion. That ride really got me hype for other RMC's because it was the smoothest rollercoaster I ever ridden, and had the best airtime on a rollercoaster I've ridden. Hopefully one day I can ride Wicked Cyclone too.
Of the 4 RMC conversions I've been on, this is my favorite. Unpopular opinion, while a fun ride, Steel Vengeance is a hair too wild for my taste and long legs. Wicked Cyclone has the correct pacing to make it more enjoyable and less painful for the giants among us.
I rode this today in the rain for the first time today and maybe it was the wet track but I didnt notice any sort of slow down on the back end. I caught ejector air all the way to station.
It exceeded my expectations, I rode with a guy that had over 70 rides and he said sometimes it runs slow, but not today. My home park is Great Escape, there are height restrictions for rides due to the surrounding communities, this coaster would be perfect there.
This is in my top five because it’s my only RMC credit there was supposed to be two But my Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens trip was canceled because of hotel issues
Ben on 13 RMC's and will be riding Stunt Pilot in a few weeks. I haven't been on Wicked Cyclone, but I expect it would fall somewhere between #5-11 in my RMC rankings. It depends on the pacing.
Amazing coaster 3rd Favorite after Kingda Ka and El Toro. This ride has great airtime which superman barley has. It also has great pacing that Jersey devil dosen't have. Please bring this rollercoaster to my home park six flags great adventure.
shin guards. Imagine riding again another coaster, Coast Rider at Knott's Berry Farm, and how would you compare between Wicked Cyclone and Coast Rider in shin guards?
This ride is absolutely amazing! The layout and airtime really shine on Wicked Cyclone. My big issue with it is the stapling by the ride attendants. I haven’t actually counted but I have been aggressively stapled easily 9/10 times in the past two years. Getting stapled on this ride makes the experience super uncomfortable and has actually made it drop some slots in my overall ranking. Maybe I’ve just been really unlucky, but I haven’t had a great ride on this in quite a while :/
First and only rmc ive been on so far. Hard agree with everything you said. Its my #1 but im sure if i get on a bigger newer hybrid my mind will change
@@integritywreckerservice4385 are you sure? That’s what every pov under average conditions looks like, and they look like it to me, because I live in Boston and have ridden this well over 40 times
Well, it is. It's like steel vengeance with less theming, shorter height and track length, less inversions, and less airtime. Both are rmcs, so they're somewhat bound to be similar
My grandma rode cyclone back in its opening year she said she liked it more then rides like Phoenix at knoebels and ghost rider she both rode them in 1999
I've only ridden New Texas Giant and Wicked Cyclone. In my opinion, I personally like New Texas Giant just because it feels faster and smoother than Wicked Cyclone. However that might just be me having Wicked Cyclone as my home coaster.
This coaster shows that stats don't matter. The pacing is slow, but the inversions and airtime up until the second inversion make up for it Also, 10:49. Perfect
I’m going to SFNE in a couple weeks and I want to try a roller coaster that goes upside down for the first time. Which coaster that goes upside down is the least scary?
I rode this in all of its forms. It was never that great until now. I would be hard pressed to call it one of the greatest woodies in the world, even with its original drop. It became hella rough under 6 flags.
@@CanobieCoaster I think they did some track work at some point a couple of years or so before it got RMC’d, so it did get better at a point. I rode it in the early 90’s, so still riverside park. There were only 3 coasters at that point! I remember it being ok.
I remember how absolutely breathless I was coming off my first RMC in Goliath, and that was Goliath. Widely considered the worst RMC and the one nobody talks about. This looks like a fantastic ride, its smooth, has tons of airtime, amazing first drop, good inversions, and so long. It may die in the second half but at least its better than if it just went straight into the brake run, they fitted more into it to make a longer ride. And I heard this thing HAUSE in the rain.
