As an engineer I can immediately see how this is superior to others. The construction of the base, the cam system is brilliant, the clamp, the distance setter, just amazing. To me it's definitely worth the money.
I'm an engineer and I agree, this system seems to be the best, but I was wondering, being new to all this, how do you know if the apex is central to the blade
@@malcolmbeckett9802 Hi, in the video Clay showed how he checked for center or apex, a few strokes on one side formed a bure on the other, the blade edge is rolling the metal to that side, then he repeated on the other side the process, the bure formed on the other side. At that point you know your pushing the apex edge. Then working it side to side keeps it on center. The black marker on the edge also confirms it as the diamonds completely remove the markers color so the angle is true. It a great system, had mine over ten years, have been able to upgrade my system, change the blade clamp and rods.
The knife owner asked GREAT questions. I've been sharpening free hand for years. It can be time consuming at times for "me". I can be a bit obsessive. I'm starting to dip my toe into the idea of a Wicked Edge. Going to keep researching.
I've had one for something like 15 years. It's expensive, but really works. They are still supporting me with warranty parts when I wear stuff out, and I decided to upgrade to that sweet new clamp. Outstanding service from them.
@@grovesy333 Yeah, they are pricey for sure. There are cheaper ways to sharpen knives, this thing is more about being obsessive and getting a freaky sharp edge quickly.
I just received my WE-130 (+ a couple of extra stones and strops etc). I admit, I had a bit of buyer’s remorse before it arrived (due to the cost) - But having tried it, I’m really pleased I got it :-) Also, good interview/demo! Clay is really clear, and the other guy didn’t ask/say anything stupid. These days, I’m really coming to appreciate that...
That's Carlos from Daily Carry Solutions (DCS). If you're a knife and EDC guy, you'll like his channel... lots of solid information always being pumped out on his channel. We partner for the shows like Blade and Shot Show. Enjoy the WE!
Just wanted to say thanks for the upload. I've been wondering about getting one of these for a couple of years. As others have stated they are a bit expensive hence the delay in purchase. Excellent video of a very practical demonstration. Much appreciated you going to the time and effort to make the video
I just got one for myself actually. I have only attempted sharpening 2 blades so far. It's gonna be a learning curve that is worth the effort. I have many blades to learn from, so just approach it one at a time! Good luck!
It seems that if the knife is not perfectly vertical in the vise there will be angle differences from side to side instead of factory edge being the cause. The knife the in the demonstration seems to not be perfectly vertical. Is there a vertical alignment tool that I missed?
Once you get the hang of it - which doesn't take very long - the Wicked Edge system will put a phenomenally sharp edge on your knife. Once you've found the right angle, resharpening takes very little time. Buy an angleometer too to get the precise angle for your knife. If you have knives that are worth a damn, go with Wicked Edge. Pricey and worth it.
Thinking about getting this system & if I do, I'll still probably use my Lansky system for some stuff. I also have packable ceramics form Spyderco for my backpacks, so I don't see myself getting rid of them either!
So you can clearly hear their conversation. There are two videos. The first showed the product. The second was a sharpening demonstration...and you can see plenty well how the sharpening was performed. Ok answer?
Interesting, customized frame, scales and bearing most likely but no idea the bevels where so far off. Not hating but the cutting edge is literally what the knife is. I'm glad he got his knife straightened out! His was a pretty good video, thanks for sharing!
I have a system of varying stones that work just fine, but this Wicked Edge Pro model blows it out of the water completely. Maybe it's time to upgrade.
I think it's hard to beat the consistency that comes from the controlled angle of the Wicked Edge. It's so precise and precision machined that you get that super polished edge and mirror perfect.
Many get a soft rubber ball, or some bicycle tire tube and cut it to shape to protect the metal bearing at the end of the stone arm. Good observation on your part. For the cost of the sharpener you would think that they would have something like that in the kit. If they do into the future they will probably charge about 60 bucks for it. Have a good one.
Me af! Zero tolerance 0301. EDC. carried it for years, dull af. Couldn’t cut through butter. Then, bought whet stones and practiced on everything in my kitchen until I was proficient enough for my ZT. A wicked edge system is my next purchase.
I don't understand. You go from 24 and 16dps to 20dps. From 24 to 20 is not a problem. That's just removing metal. But from 16 to 20dps is a problem. You still end up with uneven bevel? Making a wider bevel smaller means removing a lot of metal?
Hi Daniel.. usually they start off at around $250 and up depending on what you add on to the base setup, but I found the Wicked Edge Go here for $225 - hodgeproductsinc.com/wicked-edge-go-portable-sharpener/
You don’t have the knife in the clamp straight. Several screen shots around 1:46 shows it’s leaning over. No wonder it’s different angles on both sides
I don't think that's correct. You can see that the whole machine appears tilted at that time slot, especially the clamp assembly. There is a quick pan around 4:44 that shows the knife looking vertical.
🤔If he didn’t re-profile the edge to a single matching angle on both sides could he have sharpened this knife two handed using two individual profile angles? I noticed when talking about each of the angles he altered the setting gauge to achieve the different angles on the selector. Does the setting gauge work independently left and right or are they set as equal adjustment all the time?
outer limitless - I got the Pro pack1 in the end. The separate thumbscrews are somewhat annoying as they do work loose. Does give you that flexibility to have two angles though. The system is very good and even as a novice I’m getting razor sharp edges. Very pleased with it. 👍
Bought the WE 100 and learned how to use it properly. It works phenomenally well. When I sharpen the kitchen knives, I put a Post-It next to the knife holder to warn my wife. Crazy sharp, but peels a ripe peach perfectly.
It's an impressive system. I have since got one myself and have been learning to sharpen. It's not super easy to get a perfect mirror polish and I think technique, patience, and the proper stropping films will make a different, however regardless of the mirror polish it is insanely sharp.
I've never seen anybody sharpen a clip point or tanto blade. Can it be done with this? If you're sharpening a long kitchen knife can you keep sliding it down in the knife mount and keep it in the exact same angle like an Edge Pro knife sharpener does?
I’ve owned the wicked edge for several years now. I’ve been sharpening large 8-10 inch full sized kitchen knives about every 2 months for my kitchen. It’s really easy and the diamond stones still have held up fine. My other wet stones eventually become concave and you gotta keep flattening them out but not with the wicked esge
In the light of his display you can see how much metal and diamond debris are being kicked in the air; probably not the best thing to breathe in. Chalk that up to a benefit to water and oil stones.
Just bought the WE 130, and love it. I really don't care about the cost if it sharpens to a quality edge and this it does, but there are a couple of points I would like to make as a pro knife sharpener. 1. It does cost far too much, end of story. 2. I don't agree that "chasing the burr" is good for the knife and certainly not necessary. Pushing a burr from one side to the other is just taking far too much metal off the blade and when you are dealing with a $1000 blade it is over kill. 3. The stones up to 1000 grit which came with the kit are all far too course so I rarely use them unless I want to do a hefty re profile. 4. I never chase the burr by sharpening up to the leading edge. To keep a knife with a sharp edge and plenty of metal always sharpen with strokes starting from the leading edge and traveling downward towards the base. I noticed the guy do the with the finer grits which was good to see. Great video none the less.
My cousin has the pro WE and he also bought just about every stone they have, he's got the money. He does upward strokes and WE told him the downward makes it sharper but it is so slight to really make a difference. I've seen a test done (if it was truly accurate) that proved this. Both were sharp but the downward stroke was a bit sharper. About the burr chasing, I don't know how you can center a blade by not doing that. Taking off more metal to achieve that is no big deal to me considering just how little of the metal it really is, but that's me and if you're getting what you like on your blades, that's great. I was close to ordering the basic WE but for what I was looking for in sharpening, I ended up with the KME kit for $225. I'm very pleased with it. Other similar sharpeners are cheaper and more expensive. To me, all are good for the money and it depends how much a person wants to spend to have sharp knives. The KME that's similar in sharpening as the WE, finally has given me consistent edges throughout and has given me sharper blades than I could achieve before.
THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT THAT IS A GOOD SHARPENER (WELL DESIGNED AND THOUGHT OUT!) - BUTTTTTTTTTTTT, IT IS WWWWWWWAAAAAAAYYYYYYY OVER-PRICED - AT THAT PRICE IT IS NOTHING BUT A RICH BOY'S TOY!!!!!!!!!!!! I'LL STICK WITH MY LANSKY, AND I WOULD BE WILLING TO BET I CAN SHARPEN A KNIFE JUST AS GOOD AS THE WICKED EDGE!
You need to keep in mind that it is a professional sharpening machine. Not really a tool for the weekend warrior. Imagine needing to sharpen dozens of knives at a time precisely and efficiently. The lansky won't do professional work.
@@outerlimitless FIRSTLY: I UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A WEEKENAD WARRIOR AND A PROFESSIONAL - I ALSO UNDERSTAND THERE ARE ELITEST IN EVER HOBBY AND PROFESSION, MOSTLY AN ELITIST IS ONE WHO HAS MORE MONEY THAN HE DOES GOOD COMMON SENSE! That's not my sharpening machine. That was the companies machine being demonstrated by the owner of the company at a tradeshow 1000 miles from my house. NOT SURE WHY YOU'RE YELLING AT ME?
I didn't say I could afford one either. But Professional sharpening services use these...that is a fact. And they have money to spend on an efficient and accurate system.

Hey Marvid viducich your comment does not make sense. Maybe we should give you a wicked edge for free to make you happy . This wicked system is proven from advanced knife makers I have a pro pack 3 myself wish comes with the WE 130. System works amazing
Thanks...don't worry...I have like 550 more videos. Why don't you go dislike the rest of them...it'll keep you busy for a little while. Sort of a ridiculous reason to dislike. Don't worry about it. Like it didn't cost me hundreds of dollars to fly out there...and literally dozens of hours to edit and post these videos? Your kind of ignorant in a way. I'd get the satisfaction of you wasting your time disliking all the rest of my videos. There are hundreds without a single dislike...so go ahead and spend the time to go dislike every single one of them. I'm sure there's some detail I missed...even when someone else all together is the one presenting. But if you ARE going to dislike, I need the reason why...I need to understand what it is that I do wrong on each one of these videos so I can obviously improve to get approval from each and every viewer as to not miss a single beat. Thanks for the constructive criticism...I'll do better next time!
You obviously have a peanut brain so peanut man is a good youtube handle for you............ idiot. Oh and I gave you dislike on your comment just because you didn't include a photo with your name.
