This was Regal's Monday Mystery Movie and I was pleasantly surprised as it's not something I would normally choose to see in theaters. I'm looking forward to your commentary on this sassy story!

An adult woman, who's living with her parents, looking for attention, by writing her thoughts...nothing has changed much over the years I guess 🤨- this and *Dogman* give food for thought - above average for some pondering😉Interesting ☺

The worst part for me is how at the end of the film the two ladies (Edith and Rose) are acting like they’re still friends! Like bitch she almost framed you and sent you to a labour camp, how are you gonna still wink and joke around with her like you’re best buddies??

That's why I like straight forward people, they rarely bear grudges...

It just went to further prove that despite her foul mouth, Rose had a good, compassionate heart. Now Edith......she would've held a grudge like all phony christians do.

Love Olivia Colman and eagerly anticipating her upcoming project, 'Wicked Little Letters.' On another note, I recently delved into a captivating miniseries on Hulu (accessible via Paramount+ and Showtime) called 'The Woman In The Wall' (2023). This fictional series revolves around the haunting narrative of survivors from the Magdalene Laundries, a subject that's both poignant and compelling.

I started watching Woman in the Wall, but had to step away from it. A tad bit too sad for me. I think I ended on season 3.

Timothy Spall gave a memorable performance as a really kind and loving man in Secrets & Lies. It sounds like he’s doing a successful villain here. Secrets & Lies has a strong cast, I’d be curious to know what Nick thinks of Brenda Blethyn’s performance. I read that most, or all of it was improvised, I think that was pretty common for Mike Leigh. Marianne Jean-Baptiste I love you. Health & Happiness Queers

I am not Nick....but Brenda is always amazing! Her performance in Little Voice blew my mind. She is so versatile and capable of conveying subtle emotions as well as big boisterous expressions.

I want to see this film in the theaters. Because the combo of Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley is hard to resist. Also this past week I saw the foreign films "The Taste of Things" and "Perfect Days." They were both good. However I found both to be slightly overrated. Plus I saw the new Russell Crowe film "Sleeping Dogs." It has been receiving poor to mixed reviews. I have to strongly disagree. This film, albeit slow in the middle, was worth the pay off with the twist ending. One thinks it will definitely go a certain way and it doesn't.

there's also a touch of early 20thC anti-Irish racism presumably
@TravelsTTG

Oh I’m sure there’s terrible anti Irish and black signs at restaurants and stuff there if it’s a true representation of the time in England.
@MadailinBurnhope
@MadailinBurnhope Месяц назад
@TravelsTTG sure but also, Jessie Buckley is Irish so the assumption "of course foul-mouthed Irish lady is the one writing these letters" is probably / hopefully built into the script
@funnyguyla

Yes, there's anti-Irish racism but no other racism! The fact that the woman police officer is Indian and Jesse Buckley’s live-in lover is black goes without comment by anyone. There's even a black judge in a later courtroom scene.

I like the movie but I don’t get why they chose people of color to replace the real characters who were white in this movie. The woman police was actually white and Rose’s ma wasn’t black, he was white, were we supposed overlook that back in 1920? Again the movie was worth watching and it showed a woman’s jealousy over another woman’s free spirit that she would have her jailed. Go see the movie
