Thats bc in this one elphaba aka the 'wicked witch' is not yet 'wicked' and it isn't till the end when her heart gets broken she turns evil hence why in the 'new film' she doesn't look as scary as in the original wizard of Oz

@@chris07674 it really does, but you may not be old enough to appreciate it. The 1939 was very magical, & there was NO other movie like it out there. We have been bombarded with cgi in our movies since before the turn of the millennium. They do this because it's cheaper than practical effects (sometimes for safety). It can actually really cheapen the feel of a movie. Our brains process it different. It's a true art, & has largely gone out of practice. Wizard of Oz was never really surpassed. Even in the early 90s when I first saw it, it stood up. Some effects are going to look dated, of course, but others look more realistic than the cgi. If they were actually remaking it instead of doing a different story in the universe, can you imagine how creepy the lion, tin man, & scarecrow would be?!?!?!

The video doesn’t say wicked is the same movie as Oz. It’s just comparing the teaser, most likely because the teaser for Wicked was intended to pay homage to the film. It also probably want capitalize on people’s sense of nostalgia for the Oz film by mimicking some of its elements.

I watched it in London uk it’s nothing like the original it’s a totally different story and if I’m honest I was disappointed ☹️

The trailer makes little nods to the original novel and film that Gregory Maguire based Wicked off of. It’s a nice acknowledgement of the media that preceded this adaptation.

Wicked isn’t a remake of anything. First of all, it’s been around for about twenty years. Second, it’s about the wicked witch of the west (the green one, named Elphaba in wicked) and her backstory. It has little to nothing to do with the og movie.

Well your lucky because this is an “Prequel” about Elphaba & Galinda’s friendship before they became The Wicked Witch off the West and Glinda the Good Witch. And Dorthy plays a small part in this story.
