Thanks Pete and yeah this lens is really a solid option! Viltrox is refining there lenses each time they come out with a new model and the improvements are notable for sure. This 13mm is very good all around! All the best, Jay
This lens is lovely and does all you say, but the final release of these lenses do have a couple things to note - focus motors are audible, especially when using built in mic, such as in the ZV-e10 - sounds like a hard disk loading a big file, and it keeps seeking during video. I’ve shot a couple 1 hour shoots with it in front of a green screen and had it seeking and breathing throughout even when stopped down to f10. The manual focus is great though, especially with focus zoom and MF aid on - really easy to compose the shot and focus up for a fixed video. Overall a great lens, but I’d like to see the autofocus be as good as the ZV-E10’s kit lens, which is silent and instant. The ability to update firmware is fascinating, but many customers have had their lens bricked from this process, so not a super solid and reliable feature yet 😅
Interesting, because in all my testing "recording video" it was nearly silent? See here: 2:31 When taking photos I do notice more noise for sure, but still nothing crazy. Perhaps your lens is messed up?
How do you get your camera to focus on the lense instead of your face when holding it out “like product showcase mode on zve10”. Just got my first camera and seems hard to get it to focus on things I hold out insteqd of me! I just got the a6700. Thanks!
Hi Jason, Great review. Do you think this lens would be suitable for astrophotography with your Sony α6400 camera? Can you test it for that? Thank you.
Yes, absolutely I think it would do a fine job for Astro, because it's very sharp corner to corner and has very little distortion. Plus the f/1.4 aperture is killer for low light type shooting to help keep the ISO numbers down which is particularly great for astrophotography! I really don't get out that often for astro shooting, but if I have the opportunity I will certainly do some testing for you and report back. However, based on the testing I have done, there is no doubt this lens is a great option in my mind... All the best, Jay
Hi Jason, thanks for the quick reply! Am considering/looking for a lens for astrophotography for my Sony α6000 camera and trying to decide between the Samyang/Rokinon 12 mm F2, the Laowa 9 mm F2.8, the Sigma 16 mm F1.4, the newly released Sony 11 mm F1.8 and now this Viltrox lens. Have you used any of the other lenses I listed, and if you have, how does the Viltrox compare to them? Thanks again. :) P.S. Just subscribed to your channel.
@@asaperez-bercoff1873 Yes, I have used most of those lenses except for the Rokinon 12mm f/2 and Loawa 9mm f/2.8... Laowa makes killer manual focus lenses and I have used many. That particlar lens does have pretty heavy vignetting, but not the biggest deal. The Sigma 16mm f/1.4 is great and my review is here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SWPO6Qy7ltw.html I have the Sony 11mm f/1.8 lens in hand now and it appears to be excellent so far! Review coming soon....
I only have the Vitrox 13mm f/1.4 Lens if that answers your question ;) The Sigma is great, but I prefer having the ultra wide angle view for landscapes and vlogging type stuff.
Well the 11mm is bit wider, lighter weight, more compact, but slower at f/1.8 as apposed to f/1.4. I prefer the wider and 11mm myself, but both lenses are really good. I have some 11mm sample footage here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cDWUNhv300Q.html
