Widest vlog lens setup ever ? Quite possibly. Ignoring fisheye lenses that I'm not a fan off, this Laowa 9mm f5.6 full frame Z mount lens is a close to zero distortion, widest rectilinear lens in the world, so I paired it with my recently acquired DJI RS3 Mini gimbal, together with Nikon Z6II and went out to Canary Wharf for a walkabout.

Hi Michael. Just thought I'd drop in and say how much I miss the vlogs. If you've decided you've had enough then thank you so much for all the time and ideas you've put out there and as a very personal thing I thank you for the Nikon day to night information you've given and now I'm able to nail it every time. Cheers.

Thanks, comments like yours motivate me more to come back, and find time for all the editing when I can, I’ve been busy but also finding excuses I need to cut down and get back into it

I love the warping of this lens. Now I can't decide between this and the 12mm. I didn't know the 9mm was for full frame. The last time I saw vids for it, it was only for cropped censors.
@LondonViewpoints
@LondonViewpoints 6 месяцев назад
It’s pretty cool for sure, yes it’s a new 9mm for FF, while previously 9’s where only for crops indeed, but they just released a 10mm FF with AF maybe check that one out

Hi. I think of this lens for similar thing. Its full manual, so if you put it on a camera does auto iso work then? It looks on your vid like it works good, but i just want to get sure? ;)
@LondonViewpoints
@LondonViewpoints 6 месяцев назад
Hi, yes auto iso will work fine, irrespective of the lens, if your camera can do it, it’ll work 👍🏻

If I want to pair an ultrawide lens with expectation of a bit of crop to use as everyday lens to the A7RV 723g with Tamron 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 1155g, should I get Loawa 10-18mm F4.5-5.6 manual lens 496g, Sony 12-24mm F4 565g or Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 795g? But will Sony 12-24mm F4 mark 2 release soon? F2.8 seem not much different to F4 for the extra weight and price, better go faster if need that noticeable low light performance. That 10-18 is nice but no electronic contact and weaker performance to use as main lens but there are people try to make their lens less sharp too, so it's good choice? I also found the Tamron 17-50 F4 and it is amazing to have same series lens to cover ranges continuously but 17 isn't wide enough, 50 is covered and >=30 can just reach with few steps back, right? Also a RU-vidr said that Sony 20-70 has serious distortion and won't be 20mm after correction, true? How about the 17-50, will it still be true 17mm after correction? How do you correct it for video use, is it auto done in lens or camera, how about manual lens with no contact? Does power zoom essential on the Sony 16-35mm F4, do dolly zoom able to achieve with these manual zoom lens smoothly too and even fixed lens with software? Loawa 9mm seem great but even 2X crop will be only 18mm for photo.

All depends on many factors you didn’t mention - do you need AF ? Photo or video ? Primes will always be better than zooms, and many more questions I think you can only yourself answer upon your research 👍🏻good luck

Cheers Michael, it’s Sean in Atlanta! That’s quite a beard you’ve got going on there, my friend! I wish I could grow one like that… I want to tell you how beautiful your video is, and how much I personally appreciate you being at Canary Wharf, one of my favourite areas of London! I am hoping to get back to London in November and I am going to spend more time there than the one morning spent there a few years ago. I think Canary Wharf is an incredibly beautiful place, probably because of the architecture and the beautiful waterways that they have created. Do you find the area at the Power Station as beautiful as you find Canary Wharf? I think it’s called Nine Elms? Great name! I am going to quit waffling on. I just wanted to say “thanks” and tell you how much I appreciate your videos and wish that you would do them more often. Hint, hint! Sean

Thanks Sean, yes I do like Canary Wharf for a walk too, always something new, something changing. Nine Elms is nice , I do like it, but not as nice as CW, but plenty going on up there too. See you in London in November maybe

Wow Ok!! Re Lens Distortion: 1:55 is distorted, but 2:01 is great!! Any distortion correction or is it just the angle of filming? Guessing full frame helps. Any hope for Fujifilm users with this lens? Watching this on a big screen was nice and immersive, cheers!
@LondonViewpoints
@LondonViewpoints Год назад
I didn’t correct any shot here, so it must be the angle of filming you’re referring to. Glad to hear it looked good on big screen 😀👍🏻

This is not proper distortion, but only convergence of lines. And those lines are straight, using a simple ruler helps confirming this. Distortion is when straight lines are bent, one way (barrel/cushion) or two ways (moustache), making video post-production corrections difficult if not impossible. This is not the case here, for there is only an amplification of the perspective effect but no distortion visible to the human eye. Then, if you want to measure it with a software you may notice some, but it shall be into a margin of 0,5% or less. The good side of video sequences ( = moving images) is the difficulty for the eye and brain to notice distortion because of the amount of informations to process. This is where this "extreme" lens shines. Used in photography, where images are still, making it easier for the eye and brain to identify real distortion, this lens calls for straightening of horizontal and vertical lines with a precise software. I have not done it yet, but (thanks to years of usage) I guess DxO PhotoLab, with its perfect "Viewpoint" function and thier 3D correction tools, would find very minor adjustments necessary.

How does it work at night time video ?
@LondonViewpoints
@LondonViewpoints 11 месяцев назад
5.6 isn’t great for nighttime but Z6II handles high iso very well so in a lot environment up to 6400 it’s ok
