Jeroen Koopman plays the famous Widor Toccata on the Maarschalkerweerd organ in the Royal Concert Hall of Amsterdam. With the assistance of Maarten Havinga.
Jeroen Koopman studied at the Young Talent Academy of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. His organ teacher was Jos van der Kooy. He continued his studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Pieter van Dijk, Matthias Havinga and guest teacher Louis Robilliard (Lyon). Jeroen followed masterclasses with Ben van Oosten, Leo van Doeselaar, Zsigmond Szathmáry, Peter Planyavski en Thierry Escaich.
As a concert organist he performed on various important stages. On the 130th birthday of the Royal Concert Hall Amsterdam he gave a solo performance on the Maarschalkerweerd organ for the 'Stiching Papageno' of Jaap van Zweden. He also played in the concert series of the St. Bavo Church in Haarlem and played recitals in Germany and the International Organfestival in Treviso. He played several premières, for example the organ piece 'The Organ' of Piet Kee with five organs in the Orgelpark Amsterdam.

A no hurry pace, registration and that pedal base - just perfect. Monumental. Thanks, I have heard many recordings of this master piece, but, my goodness, this surpasses them all!

Cette Toccata est jouée à la perfection, avec les accents indiqués par Widor sur les temps forts, et au bon tempo . L'orgue est approprié à cette musique . Bravo .

very impressive, and the execution has certainly given me a feeling of being overwhelmed. I always loved this particular piece... I think I still have an old vinyl recording of Marie-Claire Alain performing this masterpiece. I also loved the way we could watch the foot work... This performance really is VERY VERY GOOD!

Is the organist not the most coordinated "multi-tasker" of the music world??!! This performance is stunning in every way, especially for its musicality! I love this! So clear-- even in the midst of this beehive of notes and activity-- the organist brought out phrasing and melody that i haven't heard before in other performers' interpretations. He is to be commended and congratulated. 🏆👏 Of all organists I've seen play this, he looks here the most at ease, comfortable, and happy with this beautiful masterpiece. And consequently-- so are we! Bravo!!! 🏆🎹🎶♥️👏 (P.S. no, I don't know him, nor are we related. 😅)

I would like to agree with you, but I thought the recording itself was a bit second-rate. Pipe organs should not be recorded in the organ loft.

I've performed this piece of widor on the 7 manual midmer-losh pipe organ in the boardwalk Hall in Atlantic city NJ, playing this piece on the largest pipe organ in the world was epic, playing the organ on 85% full.

With blinding speed you've created a much "airier" piece. Slower can sound lumbering and heavy. A Ferrari versus a lumbering tractor.

The Composer himself played it slower so your argument isn't right.

the video is not in sync with the sound.

It is, unless the organ has no delay between pressing the keys/pedals.

@@edmardisla8492 wrong. Its the video. It is not in sync .
@PlatypusPerspective
@PlatypusPerspective 2 года назад
@@edmardisla8492 This organ has a mechanical (tracker) action, which means there isn't the delay you'd get with a pneumatic or electro-pneumatic action. However what mudgebauer doesn't factor in is the delay of the sound getting from the organ pipes to the location of the microphone(s). There's about 3 millisecond delay per meter of distance, so for example a microphone 5m from the organ case will receive the sound 15 milliseconds after the key or pedal is depressed. So the unsynchronized effect in the video (latency) is indeed normal, and not too different to what organists themselves hear due to the delay of the sound reaching the console position.
