From the racehorse to the pigeon
Welcome to everybody! My name is KárolyWiedermann. I would like to tell you about how I have alloyed my experience in racehorse sport in breeding and competing pigeons.
I breed my pigeons with the method of English thoroughbreds, the point of which is that one member of the couple is a male or female with large performance. Of course, breeding is a process to breed better and better pigeons, I often buy Olympic winners or ones which won between first and fifth place, which I test and crossbreed with my best breeds, one of the 26 pieces that are in the Wiedermann loft at the moment. I also have excellent birds from Lajos Holec and Peter Holec, who are famous breeders in Slovakia with Vénusz and Ludo Classens pigeons. I compete my one year-old pigeons till 800 km two times and the ones which are able to fulfill this can become real Ace pigeon. I think the quality can be really appreciated only over 500 km.The appropriate training is essential for not only the racehorses but the pigeons, as well. The races must be won on weekdays, on Sunday we only take part in them. During training I suggest flying the pigeons on distance of minimum 100 km every or every other day irrespective of the weather.
I always keep my pigeons closed, they fly only 100 km per day. I consider the training around the house only quick fix as I have never seen such a racehorse which won from the sheepfold. Feeding is also essential. There’s no point in having a Mercedes if there is not appropriate fuel. I don’t give them dietary feed after a race. The sportsman needs to compensate the energy lost and start trainings as soon as possible. This time I mainly give them oilseeds and sometimes the nut reaches the 30 % of the feed. I could symbolize the good training method as a gum bursted between points A and B in order not to be torn but could make the maximum of the contestant. The genetic inheritance, the build, the nerves, the condition of the musclesand their quality inherited from their ancestors are all essential. Preserving health is also basic as good results can’t be achieved with asymptomatic but possibly ill birds. I consider the result within 1 % authoritative for racing pigeons. It works the same at horse races, the horse which doesn’t win at least one of ten races can go to the slaughterhouse. This is similar at the pigeons, the bad one eats as much as the good one, moreover the work is also reduced with fewer pigeons. The young pigeons have to return home from 100 km from their age of 3-4 months, every single day. The weak pigeons are soon lost due to the frequent training. The pigeons spend the winter in open volier with only roof from October to March.I change the facilities of the lofts once a year, I sterilize them every second week, and I repaint all the lofts in March. The racing hens get breeding males, the racing males get breeding hens as their pair because it is important for the returning pigeons to find their pair at home all the time.
