So essentially +20% damage is better than +20 offense, because it does the same if the unit's *base* offense is higher than the target's defense (as modifiers are additive), but it does more if the total offense is lower than the target's defense. A stack that deals 200 base damage with +100% damage modifier and 0 offense versus a 20 defense target deals 1.9*200= 380 damage. A stack that deals 200 base damage without a damage modifier but 100 offense versus the same 20 defense target deals +80% = 360 damage. The same is true with resistances versus defense, where a high defense often does less than a equally high damage resistance.
So far so good! Thanks for explaining, now I wonder: how does essence work effectively? Like, how does a build work considering certain troops that grant acces to certain spells etc work?
Can someone explain why they choose to make defense half as important as offense? Is it because you can get hit multiple time per turn but only attack once^
Thanks for the explanation! I could not figure out myself... until I watched your video and saw that those additional procents corresponded to the amount of delta between offense and defense! :D Thanks for the video!
thank you so much for your game guides. these are essential viewing for most strategy games. helps out a lot! oh yeah a quick spell guide would be good as well. like strategies using spellbooks etc. it seems spells are all the same for each one? not really sure how to use it strategically.
Loving this, am playing the game this weekend. I have a question about local hotseat mp. So, in homm3 you skip turns and then you watch the enemy move if you can see them in in you radius of explored map, correct. The problem we had was, if I was player 1 and my friend was player 2, when he ended his turn he got to see where the enemy moves in the map, but I didn't. Making it harder for me, cause when It came to my turn I had to scout around the map looking for enemies. And sometimes an enemy would move close to my castle and I would miss them. How does SOC work? The same way?
It would appear as though you do not see enemy movement, however, all heroes are represented on the mini-map by a rather large circle of the color associated with the respective player whose faction the team belongs to.
@@KingOfMadCows this is not 100 % correct, if you have 2-3 damage and you have +1 damage it means it can roll 3-4 damage but its not a flat inrease of the damage
Your videos are very informative. Thank you. I loved the Heroes of Might and Magic series as a kid, and I've occasionally revisited them throughout my life, particularly 3. A tip from the audience: I notice your referring to the audience as "bros" and it can get a little bro-y. I understand if that is how you usually talk, but you may consider that you are neglecting a lot of potential audience that way. Additionally, in another video, you were saying that players would be, "up to your balls" in something (essence, attack buff etc.). Same situation here. Otherwise, I have found your videos helpful, informative, and well put together. I would watch a video on the magic system if you posted. I got the game two days ago and have really enjoyed the spell-casting system. In the campaign, I've already seen how useful having two of a unit and having high command to allow to do so enables much more casting per battle. The lack of casting limit per turn makes for intense magic use. I've enjoyed how engaging and informative these videos are, but I am just a little more reluctant to click, "like," when you make comments like the ones mentioned above, particularly the, "up to your balls" one. Cheers.
Haha, I thought you were heckling him about the "bros" bit, then I realized that (I think) you're serious. Incidentally, "up to your balls" is a universally accepted standard of measurement, famously used in "The Parish Boy's Progress" (a.k.a., "Oliver Twist"): "... and none could deny that the bros were up to their balls in abject poverty." Good thing you overlooked the fact that, in his opening line, he comments that the game "[...] tickles that pickle of nostalgia [...]" because, spoiler? The pickle is Feudian in nature. 🥒
