Over the course of a year, one million people from all over the world visit the Pilgrimage Church of Wies. They are astonished by the wonderful shapes and colors, the bright serenity of the space and the deeply religious piety of the representations. Then enjoying the beautiful music makes for a delightful overall experience: “Wonder Wies”.
At the center of the Church of Wies is the miraculous figure of the Scourged Savior. It is said that the tears, which the Savior shed became precious pearls from which the glorious rococo jewel was created. To this day the Pilgrimage Church of the Scourged Savior has remained "alive" as a place of prayer and worship through numerous pilgrimages and divine services. It moved the Swabian poet Peter Dörfler to describe it as follows: "The Wies is a bit of heaven in this suffering world."
When the visitor, in encountering the resounding four-tone chord of art, theology, light and music, takes in the total beauty of the Wies, he can experience what the builder of the church, Abbot Marianus II Mayer, expressed: "Hoc loco habitat fortuna, hic quiescit cor"(happiness abides in this place, here the heart finds peace). We wish with all our hearts that those who visit our "beautiful Wies" may experience this happiness and find inner peace
