Great review Peter, it was brilliant to meet you both at Define thanks for taking the time to come back for a meet & greet, very much appreciated. It’s absolutely clear that the Dornbluth decision was the right one,the smile hasn’t faded! Good advice to all of us watch tragics about buying what speaks to you,it is a stunning time piece, well done.
Have had my Dornbluth & Sohn for about 3 years.... It is an incredible watch and completely unique to me and a watch that will never be sold whatever the circumstances. The experience of ordering and the personal touches are unlike anyone else, i still even get a Christmas card every year. I will definately be ordering from them again and as for videos like this I have mixed feelings - I wish them success but like it being a secret
@@PeterKotsa Is there some sort of special import tax on watches in Australia? or have prices gone up, I think I paid a bit over EUR 5K 10 years ago, been wearing it daily ever since
That watch is exactly what, if I had to put a lot of money on a timepiece, I would buy. It is exactly what I think a watch should be. Legible. Gorgeous dial. Leather strap. Elegant layout. Symmetry. Stunner.
Stunning! As you say $13k AUD is a bargain for what it is. That money gets you a basic mass-produced luxury watch from omega or Rolex. Whereas this is next level craftsmanship, just doesn’t have the brand recognition. I genuinely feel Germany has the real enthusiast brands. I feel they always deliver more for your money. The only I would say is get that deployant off the strap so you can fully see that beautiful movement!
Blimey the way he was banging on I thought it was an expensive watch he's obviously tight the watch itself does nothing for me but we all like and appreciate different things. My wife purchased me a watch at Christmas knowing I was also 60 the timepiece she acquired for me was something very special Made on the isle of Mann to me it's perfection.
We men like to interpret what our wives say to us. When I heard my wife say that she thought riding on a motorcycle would be fun, I took it as authority to get a motorcycle. When she said our boat was too small, I took it as authority to get a bigger boat
I got my own cutom made Dornbluth 99.1 about 5 years ago, And last year me and my wife went down to visit Dornbluth, where Dirk show us arround. They where just so great and nice and they took so good care of us and gave us one in a lifetime experience, And just before we left Dirk sign my outer and iner box, that was a first for him.😅 Wear it in good health, It still love mine and it is a 100% true keeper.❤
@@lpg12338Thanks. Everything Peter say is 100% how I feel about my watch, I have own many brands like Rolex, Omega and JLC, They are all great watches and I love JLC, but they can't beat the feeling I have for my Dornbluth, And there customer service is so high.(something that is lost in my way in the watch world today) The value for money is crazy and it makes there watches real sleepers, Because you need to be into watches to real understand what you looking at, that is also why I love my Spring Drive Seiko.
Gosh, Peter. I’ve wanted a Dornbluth for years. I have to say, this one just checks ALL the boxes doesn’t it? That dial, that case, that movement and that in house craftsmanship. You have to have the right wrist to handle it (and you do) but beyond that, it’s darn near perfection. Congrats, brother and enjoy. Also, your wife…😎👍🏼
Dear Peter, I don't need to say anything about the watch because you said described it already so well. It was for me a plassure to see how happy and satiesfied you are about the purchase! I would like to give you my congratulations however in first way because of your wife and how happy you must be to have her (I married somebody who is just like your wife and thats so important) and in second way of course my congratulations about this incredible time piece! I wish you lot of fun in the next years with this watch! 🍻
Your choice is completely understandable. Yes, you don't need it. But you have the right reasons for buying this absolute beauty. And the looks are not the most important side of this watch. The craftsmanship is. And it is absolutely wonderfully made. Great video.
I live in Germany and i know the brand. It is an outstanding manufacture and you can personalize the watch almost in everything. They have also a new manufacture caliber. Great choice u have done. Waiting list is more than a year!
Mate this one is an absolute beauty. Seeing it in person was incredible. The takeaway from this video is that a love story with any watch, including this one, can come to an end, however when you meet a woman like yours, she’s a definite keeper!
My 99.1 arrived last month after a 16 month wait. It is mesmerizing. It is a timepiece that wants to be handled as much as worn. And the box with its display cutout is another work of sublime craftsmanship. Imagine if anOrdain and Dornbluth did a collaboration. Of course, the waitlist would be about 10 years. 😕
Fully understand your love for the craft .At the time I write this comment it had received 216 Comments 10,847 views in 5 hours . thumbs up to you Peter.
The intro as a tribute your wife is superb. Many people would say it’s a thanks for allowing such a high expense, but we know you, and we believe you have a brillant wife ❤️ Great review and story Peter! Greetings from Italy, from Officine Tecniche.
Agree with you Peter. I bought Muhle Glashuette watch from Define watches in 2011. Visited shop in Noosa recently. Excellent team and great service. Congratulations.
One of my absolute favorite brands. I should have picked one up before people began to realize just how good they are. Such a stunning watch, congrats.
Such a pleasure watching this review, Mr Kotsa. I'm not in a position that would justify purchasing a watch like this (now at least) but I appreciate how the appeal for you is in the care and precision required in it's manufacture. Plus that's a brilliant color!
WATCH FEVER - it's a terrible disease. I've addressed it with a lot of cheaper watches, but it's the same impulse. I also have lots of budget pocket knives, and I keep hoping that one day this feeling will go away and leave me alone! That is indeed a beautiful piece and I can see why you bought it, and you were right to do so. You would have never been happy if you hadn't.
Now, how many times have I bought what I didn’t want to save money and to not disappoint my wife. I just had talk with her and she was surprised my my statement and agreed with you as long as it doesn’t impact the most important things in life of course. Thank you for sharing this love story, Peter. I’m not a big fan of this particular watch itself (I am a big fan of their craftsmanship though). You always inspire me.
I'm so happy for you. I often find myself convincing why I don't need a certain watch, I can buy it, but it may not be logical to spend that much on it. I've been torturing myself by buying homages to scratch the itch. Now that I think about it, the amount of money I've spent on microbrands is like 80% of the watch I wanted. Thank you for sharing this story.
Pete, you are living proof that lightning can strike twice. First, your amazing wife. Second, this amazing Dornbluth & Sohn! Well played! ('bout time!) :))
Great story on a very special time piece. Peter and Lydia are truly delightful to deal with. I would love to see you do a video about their back story on how they started Define watches. Their contribution to showcasing German watches to the Australian market cannot be for granted. For me German watch making history Is one of the most Important in the History of Horology
Wow, that's a stunning watch! Stoked for you, Pete, that you get to own and love such a beautiful piece with such a great back story. And... pretty awesome that your wife is willing to back your watch collection!
Beautiful. I appreciate this incredible time piece and your story in buying it. I was also humbled when looking at some incredible timepieces and my wife recognised how incredibly happy a particular watch made me - she bought it for me. And it was on her birthday! Enjoy your new love👍
Loved this! Whenever you look at the watch, which is beautiful by the way, you'll be thinking about this story of love and happiness. We should all have such a reminder on our wrist.
Lovely watch. Truly something special. The guys at define watches are fantastic with a well curated selection of watches. I visited last year and I am looking forward to purchasing something special from them.
Peter, you are blessed indeed. A love story such as this reminds one to appreciate who and what they have in their life, and to go for the opportunities that present themselves. Having the support and encouragement of a loving partner certainly makes the last bit that much easier, and enjoyable 😊 Wear your new love and enjoy the company of your loving wife in good health; and here’s to even more blessings for you and yours this year!
Your watch is a true work of art. Congratulations to you and your wife on acquiring it. Its obviously brought you two closer. And its wonderful to imagine the people whose hands created it knowing through your video that their combined dedication and expert craftsmanship has has this additional effect on its owners. Your watch and the story behind it even brightens my day and has inspired me to just do better. Its so much more that a watch!
Wonderful video! These watches are gorgeous. You don't wear them because you want to show off, but because you appreciate the craftsmanship. A watch for connoisseurs. I have one of Dornblüth's very early watches (number 13) and am delighted every time I wear it. I can't understand people who spend a lot more money on a mass-produced Rolex.
I own 24x 649x-es in various finishes, grades, some with custom decoration work. Dornbluth to me is the closest thing to a Lange that one can get, in 649x format, with their custom work. That dial is fabulous too. Wear it in good health, and treasure the wife every single day !
Bought my Dornbluth Regulator from Peter at Define watches. Highly recommend Peter and Define, LOVE my Dornbluth!!! Beautiful watch, congratulations! As you and @danemehring said, having our wives involved makes this hobby all the sweeter.
An absolutely stunning piece Peter. I'm thrilled that it worked out for you. I'm not sure I could appreciate another commercial timepiece after owning something like that. All the best mate ❤
That’s a real stunner you’ve got yourself Mr. Kotsa! It seems to me you’re pretty lucky to have one. Enjoy the watch! From what I’ve heard those Dornbluths are incredible. Cheers!🥂
Congratulations, Pete! I've been salivating over the D&S Quintus for some years. Notwithstanding the beautiful handcrafted workmanship, it is a quantum leap in price. If price wasn't an object, I'd get a D&S over a PP any day. Enjoy your D&S 99!
So finally, who's this watch for? There is only one answer possible: for you, Peter. This watch is (just) for you. I love your enthusiasm and deeply professed love for this piece. Whatever I have to say about it is inconsequential. I trust your judgement that it is as good as it is, because your experience throghout the ranks of watches is considerable. I also think it is clear this brand is not upsetting the order with some fanciful lofty pricing strategy. Yes, it is expensive, but it is also quite clear what you pay for. Do I like this watch? Sure, I like it. That dial texture and colour especially are very appealing to my eyes. Yet, at least on screen, I don't feel that deeper connection and that is just fine. I hope it'll keep generating happy feelings for years to come.
Such a sweet love story you shared of you and your......wife ❤ That's a lifetime keeper, for sure. 😊 The watch is a beauty, especially with the story behind them. Sure we will seeing it in your SOTC in yeras to come. This put a smile on my face for Sunday morning.
Simplistic beauty. What an attractive watch. Even the strap is an excellent choice and color for this timepiece. The display case back showing that gorgeous movement just adds to the eye candy of this horological marvel. I can see why you couldn't get the thought of this watch out of your head and I am very happy you got it. Thank you for showing us your grail watch. After seeing this, my grail has been put on hold. I think I need to explore a little deeper.
Congratulations, Pete. It is such a beautiful piece with an incredible story, legacy, and tradition. Also, God bless you and your wife for the beautiful and loving marriage you both share. Having such a wonderful wife is indeed a blessing, one Im also fortunate to have. All the best, my friend.
@PeterKotsa Thank you so much Pete, I really appreciate your kind message. One day at a time here, but doing a little better. Take good care and have a wonderful week.
Hi Pete, Some of us are lucky, just recently I was longingly looking at a watch that had a tiffany blue dial, and God know I do not need another watch, however my wife saw and understood the look in my eyes and prompted me to order the same online, the watch is made by a well know Indian company-HMT who despite being officially shut makes small batches of incredible value for money watches...however the point I am trying to make is the same that you keep talking about and following...buy what you like and buy what you will wear.....cheers mate.....lovely purchase......enjoy the wear......really beautiful watch
Hi Peter, thanks for sharing. It's a beautiful handmade watch, so there isn't going to be another one that is exactly the same. Love all the craftsmanship that has gone into making it. It cost a lot of money but isn't expensive considering what you have to pay for some well-known luxury brands. Enjoy.
I understand your feelings. I knew this brand after watching the Watchfinder video. I immediately fell in love with it and sent an email to ask for the catalogue and pricelist. Perhaps due to the sudden increase in the number of enquiries, it took more than a month before I got the first reply! After that, the communication process should be much faster. I ordered a rather ordinary 42mm centre second with an engraved brass dial and luckily got it after around 8 months. It is a bargain for the money and I'd say the finishing is on par with watches double the price. It is my first and only luxury watch for around 3 years now and I still love it😊
The blue on that watch is outstanding. Someday I might have to get one for myself. Thank you very much for the review and telling us about this outstanding company. I hope you enjoy that watch for many many years.
