Porn can depict the physical nature of sexual activity but what it can’t show is the love, affection and tender feelings a man and a woman have for each other. Sex is more complicated and profound than shown in porn and the very nature of the sex act brings out feelings you don’t know you had and they’re difficult to describe. Sex is beautiful, uplifting and noble. Porn is none of those things.

@@Pope005 Probably because A: violence is different than nudity and sex for this guy. and B: he's not worried about the effect that watching excessive violence will have on himself or on his marriage but he is very worried about the effect of watching porn on him and his marriage. I bet any issues that had on him going to a civilian training boot camp would not be about the violence he would experience and learn to dish out but rather money and time away from family. Whereas porn addiction can cause erectile disfunction and issues in a marriage and in a couple's sex life, civilian boot camp to learn how to shoot guns and function at a squad level aren't going to cause this guy to beat up his wife or anything close to that nature. Though to me the problem wasn't about them getting "triggered by nudity", it was that she seemed to be obsessively controlling him. But when Brett revealed the part about the porn addiction I did an instant 180. That changed everything. However, upon further reflection, I realized I've gotten way too bad lately at judging people right off the bat without full context, and always assuming the worst in people. Well, nudity is viewed somewhat differently depending on your cultural background. In Finland which is where I’m from nudity per se is not considered such a sexual thing and it’s not such a taboo as in certain other countries. And I must say the scenes in Oppenheimer were some of the least arousing sex scenes in a movie I’ve ever seen. Nude? Yes. Erotic? Not at all. Having said that, they felt really out of place and I’d have preferred them not to include those scenes in the movie.

She just warned her husband when a sex scene was coming up so he could divert his eyes to avoid temptation. How can something be both sacred and be something that nobody should be watching? So it's damaging the relationship between the husband and wife. Brett already mentioned it in the video but there are statistics and research on this how porn negatively affects relationships. Romantic movies are not linked with these issues. Furthermore you cannot compare women and men as equals, we have different brain chemistry and hormones that affects us differently. Porn addiction can happen to women too but it's not as common just because of how were biologically structured. My partner and I both like romance films, and both look away if any nudity or scenes come on.

What’s twisted is how much nudity and sex in film is okay in a movie about the invention of a bomb that kills hundreds of thousands of people. The nudity is the upsetting part? Get your priorities straight. I sure as fuck hope you didn’t see Saving Private Ryan. There’s no nudity, but a TON of violence. And that should be WAY worse than nudity. Sex is part of our biology. We’re animals. Pornography is sex recorded specifically for titillation. This is just sex happening in a film. The only difference is you see nipples apparently. And the human body is a totally normal thing. And that bothers you? Yeah, you’re right. People are twisted. Hey don’t open an anatomy book. Tons of nudity in there.

I’m appalled that people think you taking a stand here is affecting other people. Even if it’s keeping them from watching a movie with you, it’s not keeping them from ever watching a movie. How selfish can one be to tell another to “forget” their trauma just so you can enjoy something that could be triggering for them when you can enjoy it another time? Yeah, I wish I could enjoy going to see any movie that looks good, but I choose to also take care of myself and not watch ones with such content. I wish I could watch Oppenheimer and I was very disappointed when I learned I wouldn’t be able to, but it is just a film. I pray you can find some supportive friends who don’t shame you.

It depends on who initiated this. If the man was legitimately addicted to porn and it was hurting his life, then what she did was good. But if she is just jealous and is demanding a far stricter standard of him than she expects of herself when it comes to viewing sexuality (she didn't cover her eyes), then what she did was toxic. Context matters a lot in cases like this and you can't always get a full picture from TikTok videos.

If we as a society didn't view sexuality so negatively, then porn wouldn't be seen as traumatizing. Porn is literally just pictures of humans without artificial covering. We seem to forget that clothes aren't part of our bodies and that most species don't obsess over covering their bodies like this. And sex is literally just the act of reproduction, which is one of the most basic parts of survival as a species. We've taken something that is very normal and turned it into something to be ashamed of.

You don’t have to find someone who has waited until marriage, but someone who is in that mindset now. If you don’t want to have sex before marriage that’s an important boundary to keep, but also keep in mind that a lot of people make mistakes before they grow up and realize their true values. I had sex with five people before I found the person I’m going to be with permanently, we’re very committed. He had sex with one other person. But now we’re both in the same boat of committing to marriage and committing to each other so it works, our past is our past. Body count is not an indicator of the person’s current mindset or practice, so don’t feel hopeless.

Porn is fantasy! Its not an issue as long as you remember nothing that happens is real. People never grow old, are always attractive, ready for sex, women never get pregnant and relationships don’t exist in the sense of a life together. Fair enough. There are people who confuse that with reality and its destructive to relationships, hurts children and make the need for instant gratification take over your life. Everyone of us has a vice but when we allow it to run rampant, it does nothing good for us.
