Let's discuss the very important topic of wigs. The most important thing in my life. I'm obsessed and I wanted to explore why. The history of wigs goes back centuries, let's dive deep into the history of wigs and why people wore them.

Those Egyptian wigs are glorious! The one held by the British Museum that came from the Temple of Isis in Thebes is amazing. It has over 400 strand of hair, about three hundred are braids and the other hundred the set curls on top. It is made with a near-ventilating technique that has the hair tied in place through the use of beeswax and a twisted strand wrapped around the base of the loop that is beeswaxed in place. Human body temperature won't melt beeswax, so it serve like got2be almost, gluing that stand in place to the base it is tied into. Amazing!!!

Loved every minute of this and would definitely be interested in more like it 🥰🥰🥰 Strange to think that wigs existed for so long, before the idea of shame was brought into it.. Thankfully things are changing (The stigma of wearing a toupee is still there, though)

Loved this. My mom used to manage a wig salon in Rockford IL when I was little. I remember going there and being scared to death of the back room where they made/repaired wigs. There were all these heads back there! ;-)

I loved wearing wigs when I was little cuz I thought it was so fun having different hair. They were just cheap Halloween wigs. Now that I'm older and wigs are a big thing again, I've bought some better quality ones and I've figured out how to make them look fairly natural when I wear them. Wigs are a magical thing.

I remember a makeup artist talking about why she likes to wear wigs from time to time, and she really like to change up her look without having to do something permanent. Sometimes she'd wear her natural hair, but other times she'd create her look around one of her wigs. I found that really refreshing and such a great way to easily change your look without having to wait a few months before doing so again. Also, shout-out to the cosplay community! Some of their wigs are just as big and grand as drag wigs!

Jaymes, I just want you to know I was introduced to you on Jack’s “The Doll’s Witness” RU-vid channel during your birthday episode. I then followed your channel, watched your drag race seasons, which also led me to check into Trixie Mattel’s stuff. Your chatter while styling wigs is interesting and informative. You seem like a really cool and intelligent person. I appreciate you!

I saw an interview with Carol Daly, the only female detective to work the East Area Rapist case in Sacramento in the mid-70s, where she said that at the height of his crimes, she had to buy a wig because she never knew what time of the day or night she would be called on to take statements from the victims and talk to the media, and it was just easier. She is amazing.

I agree. It is so funny how there has been a need and business for wigs, but in my lifetime, there has always been... I guess... such a stigma against them in the past until recent years today. Thank for this.

My mom had leukemia in 1998. After vigorous chemo and radiation she lost her hair and when it grew back it was thin baby hair. (I know most people's hair goes back to normal and probably had less chemo and radiation, but she's been in remission since so can't really knock the results) In the last few years she's started wearing more and more wigs and honestly bringing her back to how she felt before she lost her hair. It's also nice to see people who knew her before reactions to seeing her have hair again.

Always love your videos & enjoyed your take on wig history. Great work. I might dispute Queen Elizabeth 1 using wigs to disguise bad health - besides a case of smallpox as a minor that left facials scars, she was one of the more spritely Tudors fitness wise. She may not have had the most lustrous of hair certainly, and used wigs to upmph that shizz up but she lived up to 69 - not having kids helped. Most likely died of blood poisoning.

Early 1700's mens wigs make me think of 80's perms, womens wigs were shorter and more understated. Once women started to wear their hair longer and bigger, men made theirs into the smaller powdered wigs. Also alot of the wigs would be passed down imagine wearing your dads wig after he died 😶
