4 years have passed and this is such a blast from the past. I wanted a Wii U so badly and I finally got it in December of 2013. It had a good run from 2012-2015 but there has been such a drought in software this year, it makes me sad. Long live the Wii U. It may have been a commercial failure, but it's honestly one of the best systems ever made and will go down in history as the most underrated console of all time.
+jordan rausch I am VERY excited for the Switch. It looks really promising and that New 3d Mario game was what I've been wanting for YEARS. But we'll know more on January 12th.
3:10 He actually called it the “Wii console.” No wonder people were confused for so long, even Nintendo couldn’t communicate if it was an enhanced Wii or a brand new system.
I still recall the initial reveal trailer, which called the Wii U a "new controller" about a dozen times, but never mentioned that it was actually a new console altogether. I recall the day I purchases my Wii U at the store. A couple parents were looking at it arguing over whether it was a new system, a Wii expansion, or a new Wii controller. It seems obvious today that Nintendo wanted a hybrid system like the Switch, but the problem was the technology/cost to make a true hybrid console was still about a half decade away, resulting in the Wii U - a nice console IMO, but one that too expensive and had "remote" capabilities that really only extended to anywhere in the room at your home, and was doomed to be Nintendo's biggest home console flop.
I still LOVE the Wii U, but man, looking back, Nintendo really smothered this console in the crib in many ways. They tried to make an early hybrid console a half decade before it was feasible to do so with the Switch.
I don't know why so many people hated the Wii U, it was a amazing console but the adverts were just awful and it would still be going if it didn't flop. Rest in peace Wii U.
Nintendo did so many mistakes with the Wii U. 1.No multi touch screen 2.Weak console 3.Thought they could do without third party support 4.Weak VC store 5.8gb up to 32gb hardrive 6.The name 7.Lack of proper online aspect 8.2 year of barely any games 9.Lack of direction 10.And of course the commercials was lackluster
@@zebare726 To be fair, the third party support was strong for the Wii and even the DS, with very weak hardware, that's why they maybe thought third party support would, uh, exist. But if it kept going after 2014 like it did since launch to that year, then it would have been very okay. Tbh many hardware issues are present in the Wii U, plus the lack of power that may be underwhelming for some people and ports, and a Mario game which didn't really show off the console's true power. But, here's my point, stuff like the loading times in *_the menu._* were tried to get fixed the most they could, so why couldn't it sell like the Xbox One (a very greay piece of hardware) that had its launch flaws like required online, required Kinect, unability to share games and not many exclusibes that *encourgae* you to buy at launch? It really got better after a while and I think Microsoft has proven they'll stay at the console market if they want to, but the fact the Wii U did so poorly in comparison bugs me, it would also have a great library if you added more third party support to cover the times where announcements and games lacked, but tbh I guess that's something to add for your list: -Some Directs and E3s announced *way* too much and not in a good way. -The third parties mostly did not care about enhancing the experience with the Gamepad's potential. -As an extra: Yes, the online is kinda outdated but that's not the main problem, I've seen it work properly, but there were many games that didn't had any online functionality asides from Miiverse, while they could have really benefited from it.
wow this brings back memories. I remember watching this when it was live. I got the WiI U first day. It was very exciting. It sucks the life got cut so short. But now we move on to the Switch!!
I remember when I first saw the wii u it looked amazing. I didn't get one until November of 2015 where I was so excited. I still have it set up and I plan on using it after I get the switch. It will always remain in my memories even after I dont use it anymore Long live Wii U
Foreshadowing the number of confused consumers who similarly had no idea what the Wii U was. New console? Add-on the the Wii? New controller for the Wii? Didn't help that Nintendo called the Wii U a "new controller" instead of a console in the reveal trailer.
despite people saying the WIIu was a flop,i end up getting it for $100 in a thrift shop, and i enjoy the games and its more fun than my PS4 and xboxOne,but sad to see that not much love was pour into it,Cant wait when nintendo switch come out tho.
My god this presentation is awkward... The whole audience just seems completely jaded; no matter what they're shown, everything is greeted with dead silence. It's like the guys on stage are speaking to a room full of mannequins.
They were hoping the reporters from New York-based magazines and websites would be more receptive than the press from California gaming outlets (if any)
the problem with the wii u wasnt the hardware, but the lack of 3rd party support. I am praying the switch would learn from this big mistake that cost them so much.
Oh wow. WOWIE WOW WOW. This was FIVE YEARS AGO. Now, just 2 months ago, Nintendo revealed the Switch, and last night presented a lot of games for it. Goodbye Wii U. It had a really good run when it came to 1st party games.
This is the event where Bayonetta 2 was announced. No clue that this game would ever exist before this presentation, maybe even doubt of the game existing. No reaction. Not even one person clapped. Wow....
It was a Wii console alright...Reggie was confused that he forgot that it was an upgraded Wii system (Wii U) Talk about mistakes and false advertisement.
Wii U: the ultimate visual representation of being greatly unprepared. Had they made it more powerful like PS4 and Xbox One, it could have done so much better in sales!
2012 Memories. Tears are flowing... My eyes are ready. My soul is ready. My body is ready... I do feel like a veteran ready for his discount. I watched this time and time again in anticipation for the Wii U. Got it at last in 2014.
Yes, but they marketed it WRONG. I have a Wii U - none of my friends knew this machine existed! They should have given it a NEW name, and "the box" should have looked different.
The name was technically "new", but you can also blame the marketing for restricting any air wave time to family and kid channels on TV. Your friends probably don't watch those exclusively. Nintendo cut corners on marketing costs because they were having money troubles around that time. Blame the Yen.
@@Poever I agree for the name. Also there wasnt so much ads now on my tv I have so much ads of the switch while the wii u I never saw one. I live in Canada
This reveal caused the failure. It goes on and on about the games when they should just have fun instead. Its boring. What about the drumbs. Sure the person was bad at drumbs but he was having fun.
LOL, i'm shocked. the Nintendo Switch trailer got at least 1.7 million more views already XD! It's going to be a success, insted of the WiiU, that was a fail
xxZanderxx the switch it's better I havent played my Wii U since I got the switch for Christmas it's a best console ever also uh Wii u ports are close to end the Wii u life span lol also the switch is an hybrid dude
funandcoolguy 22 dude wake up and smell the coffee now and think the Wii U is dead no one isn't talking about now and also Wii u ports are been ported to the switch alright
SmartGlass was revealed one year after the Wii U, PS Vita is a separate console meaning that only works with some games. Where as Wii U's gamepad works with ALL games.
There's both trying to predict the movements of the market so that you know what you're buying/doing. And the speed of which you can figure it out fast enough.
You can read whatever you want into that quote but it doesn't change the fact that you're jumping to conclusions, there are absolutely no indications that he means they're 'fighting restrictive hardware and that the end result won't fully utilize the superior GPU (this is a known fact) of the Wii U.
I'm not sure that humanity is so patient for two new systems to come within two years. Nintendo's head start in this new generation/decade is a big advantage. And even if the Wii U doesn't have a great first few months start that doesn't mean they have enough time to get popular enough. The Wii U has already intrigued several, dozens of game developers by it's unique design and how developers now go for what's the most powerful in gaming graphics (most of the time it's the 1st reason only).
Its best for nintendo to still support on Wii, I know Wii U have a good graphics and innovative gaming controller, but the future of Wii U still unpredictable, its nice to see Wii and Wii U can walk together without kill one another
You CAN rent a system. I rent a ps3 for 50$ for a month during summer with a couple of games included. Different stores have different prices. One month is more than enough to play and finish a couple of games.
Dear Nintendo, The Wii U is awesome, but you guys need to work on somethings like: - 3rd party support(GTA5, Tomb raider, Watchdogs and other multiplats also need to be released on the Wii U. - Get NDS games in the e-shop - Work on a new Star fox, Metroid, Earthbound, kid Icaris or a 3D pokemon adventure game - Work on getting an indie-developer friendly environment
Bought my wii u June 2020 after I bought my switch now I have 15 of the best games and counting .Love this thing so far . Can’t believe it flopped . Trust me collectors not many of these are on the market you find one keep it 🙂
it flopped because nintendo didn't try to save like sony did with the ps3. They pulled all their resources towards the 3ds since its what was making them money.
Perhaps you didn't notice but lego games are available on Sony and MS systems. They often do quite well in the sales charts too so I guess your intelligent and sophisticated adults enjoy them.
There's a very strong possibility that Grand Theft Auto V will be coming to the Wii U next year and will add exclusive features the PS3 and RROD 360 don't have.
The games that are on the xbox that are out on the wii U now look exactly the same, if not slightly better. Next gen consoles may or may not have better graphical capabilities but compared to the ones out now the wii U is able to play HD just as well as the xbox or ps3 can. Remember it also depends on the game, Nintendo won't just abandon the cartoony style in some of their games, they would lose a large group of people that like it, batman and COD show the wii U can have realistic graphics.
wii u is coming to ps3, xbox standard which was 2006 by the time ps4 and xbox 720 comes out it will be in the next generation so it will be better graphics, processing etc.
