Totally agree with gramirez00: a hexayurt, teepee or regular yurt can be built with a few people over a weekend, and they can learn it on the spot if with at least one teacher.. Or a strawbale structure like a roundhouse.. This 3d wikiworld stuff needs to come back down on earth from the clouds it's flying in and see the shanty towns and slums - already building from people's energy and collaboration. If existing slum building knowledge was shared, there would be a lot to learn!
the idea is exciting, but wouldn't it be easier to give people the list of materials and measurements for regular house construction, yes not everyone is a carpenter or mason, but I'm sure more people can use a hammer and saw than a CNC machine (use it or have access to it), if you tell people how long to cut the beams and where to place them I think it could be more effective and easier to implement
Whats the legal situation with these type of buildings. Here in the glorious bureaucracy of Germany you'd have to fight all kind of paper wars just to put such a thing in your backyard.
I~ve beeng checking these vids and wikihouse website but still I do not understand how to go ahead and build a house in one week using this system. is it not clear or it me who can`t ge it??
good luck to these open-source hardware people, but you can't print or download land & fuel; I suspect designs will still be withheld as part of competition for these finite resources
pffff stop looking for problems, think of solutions who on earth needs fuel to build an house, my house date back to 1610, shit dude no fuel used in building that, heck 50% of Amsterdam is made without, get yo act together bro :D
+Morrison Bramervaer back in 1610, there were under 1/10th the number of people - and a lot more trees per person. We use fuel to synthesise materials per person beyond the rate at which trees grow. Fuel is how we support this population level.
If we follow this model we are heading towards a period of time which will be known for its horrible architecture. I don't see how leaving house design to the common person will result in beautiful designs.
This is not really more than a tent. A tent is easier to build and cheaper. Concrete, bricks and corrugated metal or wood and nails is a really cheap and easy way to build- exactly what is done by the people in slums.
