Thanks for all the comments everyone. This was our little indie store and we had to move some seriously heavy CD bins across carpet to try to give the band some more room to play. The store only lasted a few years after this before it closed, but we sure did have some great in-stores....from Sarah McLachlan to Lush to Sloan to The Posies.
Hold yer piehole , history & anyone that KNEW Jay , would agree he was concentrated on making that sonically deadass room , sound great. I’m sure not every band rearranged the space like Jay did that day. 🥧
Jay has been my North Star for a long time, regarding the way a man might spend his life making art, continually finding and sharing himself And yes, that voice that seems to sing the soul of *everyman* certainly helps
Sorry I can't agree. He was a great anchor for Being There & YHFT when they get slushy/noisey because his style was so rote. Definitely great. In ensemble. During that period. But Tweedy knows how to manage his line-up to keep his songwriting propelled
AM / Being There / YHFT would not sound or be what they were without Bennett. Not saying Wilco was better or worse without him, but they definitely changed.
I miss this store. I spent hundreds of dollars on cds and records every weekend in Royal Oak back in the day. I cherish every moment spent at Repeat The Beat. Still have every cd and record bought from them. 😢
thanks to you,for recording this for everyone ! "a.m." is one of my best favorite record of wilco. and the atomosphere here so warmfull is now we've been missing, after corona
God, I miss this store and the 90's. This place was right down the street from where I grew up. I wish I could go back to those days. I was 14 and about to begin 8th grade at Keller Jr. High. I miss old Royal Oak. Thank you for posting this!
Hey drummer , I used to go there every Sunday and engage in diatribes with Tim police from WDET. Those mom and pop record stores were like digging for gold.
LOL by 1995 we had the handheld cams with the flip-out viewing screens! Despite how archaic the technology was, I feel like we had it a lot better back then. Things were much simpler and living in the moment was so much easier.
Saw their 2nd show ever @ Mississippi Nights in STL. We followed them around all through the Being There tour. So much fun!!! I still think that was Wilco at their best
This was great! Glad I found it… I had no idea about Wilco in 95’.. I love the “home video” look, and the classic home town record shop.. Feels good… Thanks for posting!!
I'll always prefer pre-YHF Wilco. I saw them several times in the late 90s, small venues, $20 ticket or whatever, standing in front of Jeff/Jay the whole show. I sure do miss that time. One of the best shows was at The Vogue in Indy. The Old 97s opened up. Saw them a bunch back in the day, too. Possibly the best concert I ever went to in my life was the Old 97s at the Southgate House in Newport, KY, ca. 2004. Incredible.
This is one of my favorite bands, I've seen them play live a number of times. Including an opening set from the mid 90's. Which I dismissed as boring. This is great to see but it actually reminded me of how much better they grew into being and of that unfavorable first impression.
Im listening to this with headphones the bass keeps cutting in and out, where there problems with his amp in the room or is it just too low a frequency for the camera to pick up? I noticed it first when the soundman is doing something with the monitor to the right of the screen. Still sounds good im just a nerd lol.
