The gold standard. . . all mic'd up and recorded live in a room with a small audience! A real band together after years (decades) on the road, recording at the height of their musical powers! JUST PLAIN WOW!
It's rare that you don't notice what Nels Cline is playing. Even when he's being super-tasteful and fitting right into one of Jeff's songs, he almost always sounds like himself. In a way he's Wilco's version of The Band's Garth Hudson, whose job was not to vanish into the songs but to sound like Garth Hudson - to add unexpected contributions from his formally-schooled background to the others' more instinctive approach. Garth was The Band's wild card, and Nels is Wilco's. And, like Garth, Nels doesn't even pretend to sing.
The perfect band for my fellow empaths. I love these guys so much. No other band gets me in the feels like Wilco...through my dark past, sweet present, and bright future to come. They still inspire my soul while creating utter beauty. Thank you! Love you!
This performance resonates with frisson! The band is closer than cousins on this stage and we can see and hear each individual’s parts to make up the whole of the songs. I love it!
For some reason, "Soldier Child" has been omitted from this video. It was played between "Sunlight Ends" and "Evicted." (I was there and have a copy of the set list.) You can actually see that the clock behind Nels says 8:39 p.m. at about 28:45 and then it says 8:47 p.m. about three minutes later in the video at about 31:47.
I love and adore Jeff Tweedy since I first caught a glimpse of him. Best songwriter, astonishing composer, along with the guys, and one of the most beautiful souls in the world of music. You can truly and easily connect with his emotions, even though Wilco's music is not mainstream/easy-listening for everyone. But once you decypher it... You will never return from it ❤️ Love you guys, from Spain!!
Remember that fund drive spot with Brian Aubert (Silversun pickups)? He said something like. “Pledge now and if you pledge over 500 bucks Jeff Tweedy will paint your house!” I still laugh about that. In all seriousness this is amaze balls. Thanks
The sound is a bit tiny compared to the album. I'm not sure if it's because of the live performance but the most produced songs in the new album like Meant to be sound small. The more acustic songs, so to speak, sound better. Like Evicted for example. They still are crazy performers
@farneybuster take it from somebody with a degree in the field: yes, yes there is. Bad levels are objective. There is subjectivity in levelling but a poorly levelled mix is poorly levelled.
