Man that moment of "Oh that's where that song is from" actually blew my mind, I fully expected to not recognize the song. But damn you really predicted my reaction Jirard lmao
Seeing this video just makes me miss my PSX/PS2 JRPG collection that got swiped... Wild Arms 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and AF. Suikoden 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and Tactics. FF7, 8, 9, X, X-2, and FFT. Star Ocean 2 and 3. Vandal Hearts 1 and 2. Valkyrie Profile. I miss seeing my collection on my shelf.
My memories of Wild Arms are that it and Suikoden were the games I played while waiting for FF7 to be released on the PSX! What an amazing time for video games.
I remember playing the PS1 original version for the first time when it was played on SuperBeardBros and now to see the PS2 version reviewed is great and reminds me I still haven't finished it yet lol
Great video, Jirard. Glad you still love Wild ARMS. It deserves so much love. 2 is amazing and I wish you'd do that one someday. ACF handles Rudy so well. He never speaks but still has so much personality in the remake. I miss the series so much.
I love that you tackled a series that I've loved so much. And I always loved hearing that battle theme in your videos. Hell, just look at the profile pic. Thanks for covering a game near and dear to my heart.
Wild Arms 1 is still in my top 10 games. The Wild Arms Anime is amazing, I recommend it constantly as a lesser know show along with Sand of Destruction. Some of the better video game to anime adaptations.
I remember when wild arma came out new. I bought it on a whim because of the cover art and it being an rpg. Blew my mind back then because it was so cool. i hadn't heard of this version, and sounds like i won't be able to play it with you saying it's a ps2 only and hard/expensive to get. Anyway. Great video
As a child:Heard about this from X Play, gave the game and 4 and 5 a 3. As an adult:Hear about this from completionist, recommends it if you can find it. Overall: Maybe I should have found alter code F and wild arms 5 as a kid back then instead of right now where the 5th game is literally very expensive.
Ha ha. Joke on you. I knew where the song came from the first time I heard it on this channel. And I'm here for a looking time, all because I had wild arms 1 and 2 on my ps1 when I was a kid.
... So you're telling me the enemies no longer do cat noises before melting? what a downgrade!! On a more serious note, I'd love to hear you talk about Wild Arms 3, it's one of my favourite JRPG's!!
Ah yes the PlayStation 2 era when games didn't have all that many colors because of the limited vram because Sony Executives were cheap. I want to say that many games were relegated to 256 colors on screen at any one time. It's like the mistake with the Nintendo 64 having a paltry amount of texture buffer cache. That's why many of its games feature such low resolution textures not because of the limited memory in the cartridges
Love to see all the people clamoring for WA3, but let's at least get WA2 done first so Jirard can appreciate the references. Also... Holy Guardians, and I thought WA3 was going to be a nightmare for him. I'd never actually looked into what completing ACF really meant. Compared to this, even Arioch might even be preferable.
I know it's probably not but the game next to the OG Wild Arms (behind his shoulder) looks a LOT like Star Ocean 2. I'm not getting my hopes up but JIRARD PLEASE I WILL SEND YOU MY PERSONAL COPY
Wild Arms is such an underappreciated series. It was one of the first games I ever played on PS1 and to this day I still associate the console with Wild Arms before most other games.
I have a physical copy of the PS1 Wild ARMs and I've been a fan of it for years, and NEVER heard of this version before. Sadly, copies of Alter Code F are now in the 300-500$ range now. 😭
Def in my top 10 and possibly top 5 of all time. I beat it a few years ago and couldnt believe how long it was. The only criticism is not knowing where to go if you save on the world map and dont play for a while
The first time Sony remade one of their games for a new generation. Would like a new Wild Arms especially now that a new Star Ocean was just announced. Got Fantasy and Space JRPGs covered now we need a Western.
@@thepuppetmaster9284 if by chance you mean you. hope then sure. wild arms is a largely forgotten and already niche RPG. chances are basically zero unfortunately.
The Wild Arms franchise is a series I've always been interested in but never had a chance to play. This review has only made me all the more eager to try the series out for myself.
I'm trying to get into the wild arms series and I've heard from a person that loves the series that three is considered the best one among others but his favorite being four.
On the topic of remakes Jirard has talked about how Metal Gear Solid is one of his least anticipated games for new game+. Don't forget that Twin Snakes exists! It's way easier than MGS1 and has no VR missions. So to make it easier on himself Jirard should complete Twin Snakes instead and just do a normal playthrough of the original as a primer. Hope that helps.
As someone who is getting his ass kicked by MGS TS but did okay with MGS 1, Twin Snakes is really only easier if you're already familiar with MGS2, which I am not either
Twin Snakes is hot fucking garbage. The MGS2 mechanics in the level design, enemy layouts, and boss designs of MGS1, none of which were designed with MGS2 mechanics in mind, makes the game pathetically, laughably easy. They also added in dog tag collecting from MGS2, but provided ABSOLUTELY NO REWARDS FOR DOING IT even though the entire point of collecting them in MGS2 was for the cool rewards you got for your trouble. The cutscenes completely change Snake's character for the worse, turning him from the cautious, hardened veteran of the original game to this cocky, showoffy rookie making utterly stupid, dangerous decisions for the sake of looking cool, and made him even meaner to Otacon than he was in the original, making their friendship at the end come out of nowhere and feel completely phony and undeserved while in the original Snake was always pretty easy on him except for a couple moments of understandable anger and frustration, all of which actually made their friendship developing feel genuine. The cutscenes also add a lot of really awful humor in horrifically out-of-place spots that completely ruins moments that were serious and weighty in the original. The voiceovers are all far, far below the quality of the original game. Jeremy Blaustein wrote the English dialogue and directed the voice actors in the original game, and he got amazing performances out of the cast because he knew exactly how each line should be read since he wrote them all himself. Some other jackhole did the voice direction on Twin Snakes and it results in the voices sounding completely phoned-in and soulless. The remixed music lacks the atmosphere and gravitas of the original's music, and the cleaner graphics take a lot away from the original's gritty, dirty look, all of which has a strongly negative effect on the game's mood and tone. Twin Snakes sucks week old gas station hot dogs. I hope Jirard stays far, far away from it. But he won't. I'm sure he'll be reviewing it for MGS NG+.
Man, Jirard flailing his arms wildly even off screen was huge plays. Reminds me of a game I have called Enchanted Arms. Haven't played it much, but it seemed pretty fun.
Holy shit I don't think ive ever seen someone openly mention Enchanted Arms. That game was a huge piece of my childhood and my god the combat was stellar. I loved the turn based/grid based combat
Awesome video man, lately I've been obsessed with the wild arms 3 battle song, that was the one I got really into as a kid Would love to see more ports of these to play them on modern consoles
all of these keeps ads on this platform have led me to come to terms with and accept my male pattern baldness. Free to be you and me and all that, but self acceptance is also a good way to go :)
the Wild Arms director went on to be an anime director and the last show he directed, Symphogear, is one of my favorites, is increrdibly amazing. I reccomend everyone to watch it.
@@sharebear421 It is. And it's apparently super hype. I didn't think magical girl stuff could go beyond "oh Sailor Moon exists, okay Cardcaptors is more interesting" to Pretty Cure basically being Super Sentai style stories, let alone *Madoka.* Magical girl shows are legit.
The physical copy of this game is already insane in price. Can't wait for the price to hike because of this video. Great vid though. Edit: missed some words
I remember seeing Alter Code F copies literally just sitting on shelves in a local Gamestop for ages since seemingly nobody wanted them. Going from seeing that to the prices copies are demanding now is wild lol
Love both versions of the game. The Hanging Gardens. I was stuck in that place for hours, the original, due to not noticing the wall was missing in the lit windows. I actually bought it from the video store I rented it from since I was the only one in town that rented it. I paid $40 for it I think? I do own all of the Wild Arms. Holy Crap Alter F is so expensive. I think I found it in a bargin bin for $5. It sold so poorly that the store didn't want to waste shelf space on it.
This channel led me to pseudo completing games myself, and for as long as it's around, I'll always come back to this channel for the warm fuzziness that it provides
I had a Japanese version of wild arms 2 that my dad got me while he was working away in Malaysia. I couldn't understand a thing in that game but it was my first Jrpg and it started my love affair with jrpg's 😁
With the original one being one of my all time favorite games (and the first game I've ever finished all by myself), I'm really bumped this one never got released in Europe...
A couple of problems already. 1: Alter Code F came out before Wild Arms 4, it was running the Wild Arms 3 engine. 2: You forgot about Wild Arms XF on the PSP. We almost didn't get that game because of Wild Arms 4. In fact, because 4 was so bad and there was no way of knowing if XF was coming stateside, they put the bonus bosses of Wild Arms 5 out on the open world for you to find and fight without needing XF. Because, in Japan, in order to fight the over-world bonus bosses, you needed a copy of Wild Arms XF, a PSP to PS2 connection cable and Wild Arms 5. So the localizers just made the bosses playable without any extra steps. And then we got XF anyway.
Oh my gosh, Girard! Wild arms is my second favorite RPG of all time! I had no clue, at all, that they made a remake for PS2!?! Well… I know what I’m doing when I get home from the road😄
Dope video dude. I love when you do a different version of a game on new game plus. Happy 10 year anniversary to TOVG/The Completionist! I wish that you have hoy doing this for as long as you can!
Jokes on YOU Jirard, I am already a Wild Arms fan and knew where that you've been using the battle music for almost as long as the channel has existed ( Personally , favorite is Wild Arms 3)
