I've been hunting in the U.S. for over 50 years and what you described I've only seen with my own eyes a couple of times. Most times I hear people talking like this, it's about what someone else told them and people lie a lot! Anti-hunters make the same exact accusations and know full well that they're telling lies! Half of my time hunting was on public land, so I have first hand knowledge! If it was as unsafe as you described, you wouldn't be out there hunting and if you're not out there, then you're not really seeing these things!

I am from Finland so I dont really know, but what I have seen the hunters in america are Great, and has alot of knowledge. At least on youtube. And I know a guy from Virginia and he is one of the most experienced guys I know. And to stalk elks and stuff in the Mountains is not easy either

Sometimes i have the some. I use Huntstand app and on the map i determine the distance, but i think the better choice is to have rangefinder. Regards

Rangefinder. Whenever I am at a stand which is not "obvious" (ie everything less than 50m), I pick points (large rock, tree etc) and measure with a rangefinder, then I know later roughly how far the animals are.

@@mamakind99 yes, I do pretty much the same, only that I use Google maps to measure the distances. Apart of that, I have seen apps that have radius distance circles which can help with picking up markers (rocks, trees, etc) on the field.

@@Wanderers-Bulgaria Very often I don't have reception where I shoot, and I also wouldn't feel comfortable about the accuracy of google maps. A rangefinder costs less than 100 euros, so I would never want to miss it. Also for long shots (250m plus) in the mountains, it is faster and more precise.

​@@mamakind99 Rangefinder is a good option. It is a matter of time for me to buy one. I guess, I am not in a hurry, because so far, G.Maps can fulfill my requirements . As I see it, G.Maps is capable to give accurate results (within 5-10m tolerance) if you can clearly spot the markers on the map. Although, it has one downside, G.Maps don't work on different planes between shooter and target (i.e. uphill or downhill).
