Wild Camping at an 18th Century Quarry | Llangattock Escarpment

Llangattock Escarpment lies in the South-East corner of the Brecon Beacons National Park and is an area of outstanding natural beauty. It's a three-mile-long cliff-edged plateau that runs a few hundred metres above the valley of the River Usk. It's also home to one of the longest caves in the U.K which is a staggering 16 miles long.
It's the old spoil heaps from the former Limestone Quarrying days here that will most captivate you. Now reclaimed by nature, the lumps and mounds look like an an Alien Landscape. This setting made for a beautiful place to spend the evening.

I did another video about 2 years ago. I went back to a huge cave there that's literally big enough to fit a house or 2 or 3 in it. You were very close to it. 👍

Great vid mate & that black dragon is 1 of my favorites. The landscape above Pontsticill & morlas in Merthyr is very much like this. Great place for a camp as well

Wish I known you was over there, I would have come and said hello, its a 15 mins car drive for me and somewhere I have been many many times... Its on;y at this time of the year will you get a sunset as the sun is furthestaround. I knew the sausages would be for Toby... I would have had to nck one, they looked lush..lol. Have a look at Maxim Outdoors for some explores in these caves. The old tips remind me of a mini quiraing. atb Al

Nice walk Ryan , I’ve been here before also it’s very impressive. The summit above it with trig point (Tyr Pen Cyrn) is worth a visit too , great vistas of the black mountains from there . Best wishes

Oh hey great video Ryan. Great scenery. The thing is there are many great parts of the world left. This country is not the same but hey we are still a good country. I don't like sending this but people have a right to hear it. This was a T.V. show but that speech is very true with facts. It's a bipartisan speech. I was 27 almost 28 when the speech happened. Just finished a night shift up in Leicester and this has made my night/day/morning lol seeing another video uploaded mate! The footage and the informative content is class FairPlay 👏 funny story about the cider though I’ve not tried it yet personally, one of my mates loves it even down to having the logo tattooed on him, he posted it on social media and they reached out and sent him a case free! Result haha. Excellent stuff as always keep up the great work buddy. Inspiring 👌🏻

Ha that's mad, me and geraint camped in the exact same spot last year. Love it up there. I sometimes stay in the carpark in my campervan aswell. Haven't been in the cave though, thanks for sharing that Ryan. Great video and looking forward to the next one already 👍

Absolutely love it up there. My first video was up there but it was awful and filmed on the worst camera ever. I'm pretty sure the entrance to that mine is gated up and you can't get in there. Quality video as always mate 👌

@wildaboutwales it really is huge. You can enter into the cave system through one entrance that loops through tunnels (most of them you can walk stood up in), a few dead end paths come off the tunnel and it loops around to this huge cave. You can exit via another opening in the big cave. It's aweo 👌

Great video mate, I've only recently found the road through there on my motorbike but didn't realise how interesting it looked from above, will add that to my list of walks , headed back up the Skirrid on Sunday morning which seems to be my go to hill but will try this one too soon .

Last Sunday was up the Skirrid, for a little hill, it's a pretty hard climb at the start. Just looked on Google earth at where you are, is there a pond at the top or maybe a bog ? Couldn't work out what it was.

@@plodonsteady2929 that's up above the Escarpment on Mynnydd Llangattock, there's a pond up there. There's a car park in the area, and it's just a short walk up to the Escarpment.

Jst a quick question mate,have you ever been 2 coco's wild camp,was just wondering if you have and your thoughts,i wouldn't usually pay 2 wild camp but my better half likes the safety of it and is convinced we will be eat by a bear or attack'd by hillbilly's in our sleep,was jst wondering if you had or had any good reports of the place👍

@@bedrock19681 I haven't been there sorry, mate, but funnily enough I watched a video the other day and 'Wandering Where' stayed there - you could maybe watch the video and see what you think (first night testing the roof tent on my mini camper). If you wanted something a little closer to wild camping 'Simon, a bloke in the Woods' stayed at 'The Wildman Woods Campsite' in the western Beacons - that's in his most recent video he posted if you want to check it out. Another option, but I'm guessing you may have heard of it, is 'Brecon Beacons Wild Camping' in central Beacons. I never stay at campsites to be honest, mate, so other than that I can't really recommend anything.
