Wild Camping Gone Wrong! It started off so good!

Our wild camping trip started off so well! We were hiking in the sunshine but when we set up our wild camp the wind and rain started. We ended up wild camping in a storm. As we were putting up our backpacking tents the wind started. Shortly after the rain started. Before we knew it, a storm was brewing!
Just before dark, the sky lit up with lightning followed by a huge crack of thunder. During the night the wind was relentless. Our wild camp setting was exposed put we were wild camping on Haystacks summit next to Innominate Tarn.
Wild camping in the Lake District is one of the most amazing experiences you can ever have. However, you’ve got to be prepared to experience all 4 seasons, even camping in summer.
We had no sleep due to the strong winds. Soon after we started hiking again, the rain came down. I don’t mind hiking in the rain but it got to the point where it was hurting our eyes!
We got back on our motorbikes and went home via the passes in the torrential rain.
It was certainly an adventure!

It’s amazing what a tent priced under £200 will stand up to. The fact they didn’t tear or collapse is amazing under those conditions.
@BackpackingUK
@BackpackingUK 2 года назад
Hats off to all the tents. It’s also really good that they all come with plenty of pegs, guy lines and lots of places to attach them too. There’s plenty of expensive tents out there that only come with a minimal set up!

Love it when things go a bit pear shaped! Wouldn’t life be boring if all camps were sunshine, light breezes and gas stoves that behaved 100%? 👍🏻😁

The tent poles on your tent are designed to flex with strong winds mate,still makes it unnerving but the tent was behaving perfectly. Thanks for the cracking upload mate thank you.
@BackpackingUK
@BackpackingUK 2 года назад
This is a tricky subject. I get that a lot of tent brands specifically design their poles to flex rather than break but the knock-on effect is the fabric flaps around like mad as it's no longer taut. The answer is probably 10mm poles but then everyone would moan about the weight! Thanks for watching!

I live in the Lakes and have done all my life...I wouldn't drink any water "on the hill" without filtering these days. There's to many folk especially wild campers. I would say all the water will be contaminated!

Great place great scenery. Could I make a suggestion to improve vids? When panning to show the view, slow down… give us the opportunity to actually see what is there. Maybe name an occasional hill… and put yourself to the side or out of shot altogether? Hope this is taken in the way it is intended. Keep up the good work!

I live up near the lakes, I'm out on the fells quite a lot in all seasons, the weather is part of the lake district experience, just have to power through. A great video, really showed the natural wild beauty of the place. The higher up you go the safer the water, but I always filter it, better to not take any chances.

@@BackpackingUK yeah, I always blow on the canister and stove connectors before joining them. Never had an issue since, but it’s easier than you think to get sand, dust or grit in the supply, then it hits the jet and blocks it. You need a jet cleaning tool which used to be supplied with a lot of stoves but you have to get them separately now.
