In this video, I head to Snowdonia for 3 days of photography and wild camping. It was amazing! We had terrific conditions and I was sad as always to leave! This is part one of perhaps 3 separate videos from the trip! I managed to get some fantastic images I'm really pleased with so do subscribe and hit the notification bell to make sure you see them vids too!
Massive thanks to Eilir for his company and patience haha.. that dudes like a mountain goat so I was very grateful for his patience in waiting for my slow and unfit state to catch up with him!

Well done Gareth for sticking it out, cant wait to see the photos, I bet that sunrise was fantastic. Next time I would highly recommend a wild camp on Carnedd y Cribau, just on the other side of the A498. You can get the sunset behind the Horseshoe and if you are lucky, the Milkyway over Snowden.

Oh man, I randomly got 5 days off work now and I decided not to go on a hike, even though it's a good weather window, cause I felt like with my tent and bigger bag, I'll be slow and struggle to pitch a tent since it's climbing or down hill, one lake where I planned to pitch tent but I don't know how soaked the ground is in late may Here in Norway. I decided not to to go, and to order a bivy, as well as walking poles that I haven't used up until now, but your video made me realize a bivy won't solve all my problems lol. Thank you for the good content!

Great vid, I did the horseshoe on Monday, would I have staggered past that spot ? I've got two bivvy bags , one British army one Dutch army , both breathable but probably too heavy for your setup with all your camera gear. Wouldn't fancy sleeping in a bin bag in freezing conditions, hardcore 😁

I’ve got the OR alpine gore Tex bivvy and this thing’s as slippery as F if you don’t peg it down,so flat ground is a necessity the sleeping mat also slides inside,I bought the large thermarest neo air x lite which fills out the inside floor space nicely so problem solved also good down to -15 with ice inside on the thermarest parsec -6 bag.On the older version you had 4 stake out points and a strap for the pad,I can’t see the point of deleting these to save what 50 grams.Used in conjunction with my rab siltarp this set up is more bombproof than any tent in my opinion. I’ve also got the Msr access 2 but I still prefer the bivvy bag.

You would never find me me camping not even when I could still walk, sleeping on the ground? Great video, makes a nice change to see some scenery. I have not been mixing with people still, but got my camera setup on the balcony to try and catch some of the meteor shower tonight. Just sorting out the best shot out to sea and adding the cliffs or, out to sea and Redcars lights twinkling.

I walked 14 miles yesterday to camp. Bivi and bash a set up. I can't just bivi unless there is shelter as I dont trust the weather in the UK. I'm going ultralight in future ha ha. I brought too much. Man I felt like I was carrying a body. You learn about what you don't need. All a learning curve. Modifications. Well done for busting the bivi virginity. It's all about experience. Good and bad.

Did an ultralight week using a bivy in the Pacific Northwest. It was awful. Very humid, true, but I was soaked within minutes of being in my sack. Even when the bugs weren’t so bad I could keep my head out, my sleep clothes would quickly be very wet. A small tent is only marginally heavier and there is no comparison in its superior quality of sleep.

If your not warm what’s the point, of freezing your clams off? That bivvy bay looked to small for you. In my humble opinion how would you have coped if it was raining heavily. Have you ever considered using a hot water bottle. 1 it dose not take up any space. 2 You could use it to store water. 3 you can boil water fairly easily on your camping. 4 it should stay warm for 3/4 hours at least heating up your sleeping bag. It’s just an idea, worth trying at -5, at least it wasn’t -10. Lol

very good point mate and i agree! i have hand warmers that would have been amazing too!! silly me didnt think to bring them! plus i was told the bivvy would add 10 degrees of watch to the bag.. so i was surprised i had ice inside it.. bad info i think.. i wont cold camp with it again thats for sure haha. thanks for watching :-)

Waterproof bivvies are all the same more or less. I've tried so many and none work as they advertise. Don't do well around zero degrees when condensation can get really bad. Better off with a bivvy with waterproof bottom and only water RESISTANT top that breaths property. if you know it's gonna rain then either bring a tarp or just don't bring the bivvy

Bivvy's yeah nothing like feeling you're still in the womb! lol. Wise move to get back from the edge a touch, I think a tents far better, in the bivvy not enough airspace between you and the bag hence all the frozen condensation, not that I'm an expert just my experience over the years.

Agree with you 100%. Did a very miserable week in a bivy. Soaked in 30 min after I climbed in. Even in places where the bugs weren’t so bad that I could keep my head out of the mesh my sleep clothes were wet in no time. Very high humidity but with a tent it would have been a great trip instead of a torture test.

Should have got a army gore-tex bivy. No condensation. Using a down sleeping bag in a bivy which has condensation is asking for trouble. The feathers ball up and all you have is the outer layer of the sleeping bag. It will kill you. Down filled sleeping bags though small and light are dodgy if they get wet you freeze and you cannot dry them back to useable condition because all the feathers ball up. You should also put the mat on the outside but of course you went for luxury and had an air filled one which could have got a puncture moving about during the night. Where would you be then? Sorry, all in all the way you went about this camp would be alright on lower ground level but where you were was downright stupid.
