Another great video, Chris. A great reminder that the simple pleasures in life such as wildlife watching, fishing and camping can bring lots of joy. Thanks for sharing 🙏
I have a few enjoyable memories of Anglesey visits. The pillow lava I remember seeing at Newborough Llanddwyn as well as the lighthouse. Looked like lovely weather for your coastal walk with great scenes, but wouldn't fancy wading with those jelly fish around! Those red short and cute hat suited you though. All the best Chris.
Never been to Angelsey before Chris. Looks stunning mate. Loved your video. Not only the camping, but all the information about the wildlife you give. Brilliant. Thanks Chris. Can’t wait until the next one 👍👍
Lovely spot Chris, I need to return to North Wales. I know what you mean about the sand. Just back from a week up Northumberland, lovely stretch steeped on history too. TFS David 👍
Thank you Phil. Aye, it's a top place. Very busy of course but understandable really with the landscape and interesting stuff. Hope you are well mate. 🙂
Always look forward to your vlogs Chris - so informative and packed with variety. This one was particularly special for me as I’ve been visiting North Wales and the Lleyn Peninsula for almost 60 years but have never been to Newborough Sands despite it being on my radar for the last 5 years or so. Looks lovely, so will make a point of going soon. Keep up the good work, there’s nobody better 👍
Many thanks Adam for your kind words. I'm a big fan of the Lleyn Peninsula too and have had some happy times there. I'd like to do a camp down there sometime too. It's bit of a longer drive for me though. Best wishes, Chris
Bit of everything in this one Chris. I have a feeling a walk with you might take a bit while you examine the flowers, birds, insects, geology and history around you! But what a fascinating video it made. Thanks for sharing this with us. ATB roger
You are right Roger. I dawdle more than walk and when you chuck in the filming and walk-bys, it's a wonder I ever get anywhere really. Bye for now, Chris 👍
Great one Chris! You can’t beat proper short, shorts David Bedford style, my Mrs hates my old Patagonia 5” baggies, had them for 25yrs and still going strong! Great idea for a trip. I’m planning to go over on the boat for an overnighter on Lundy next year from Bideford!
How do Nick and thanks. I love Patagonia gear.....not cheap but really lasts and a very ethical company too. I had a great day on Lundy in 2012. I remember a campsite and a pub there too. Islands are pretty cool aren't they?
Nice change Chris. The Shearwaters are a remarkable bird for the size of em. 5 years ago, I volunteered for a week on Bardsey island at the end of the Llyn and went out one night with the bird observatory folk, catching and ringing Shearwaters and Petrels. They produce one chick and fatten it up so much that it's too big to get out of the burrow. Then they abandon it, forcing it to slim down before it can leave to start it's long migration. You don't want a jellyfish sting, btw. My lad got one in Majorca a decade ago. Still got a gret scar on his wrist. Thanks again Chris, atb, Paul
Cheers Paul. Shearwaters and petrels are my favourite sea-birds I think, real ocean wanderers. It was on a trip to Bardsey that I saw my first ever shearwaters (Manx and Balearic) a few years back. I loved it there and wouldn't mind a few days staying at the Obs sometime. The Majorcan jelly-fish sting sounds grim. I once got sung by a weever fish....that hurt!
@ChrisJB I think they said there were 25,000 of them on the island. There are no longer any rabbits, so they use their burrows, and it's also rat free. The only real predators are large sea birds that take the young. 😕
How do UP and thank you. I love coastal camps and wish some decent coastline was a bit closer to hand. Back in the hills of the north for the next one though. 🙂
I've been on this island a few times and often thought about spending the night on there but like you say, its really busy. I get what you say about it being a spiritual place. Enjoyed watching that, cheers, Chris.
Hello Mark. It's a tremendous place. Very busy of course but I suppose that's because it's good! I'd like to try and locate some similar places to this for some future camps. ATB, Chris
I'd say that was a good day and night beside the seaside, Chris. Some fantastic geology and a few fave birds too and that's not to mention the cracking morning. Good going. Mark
Thanks Mark. It certainly felt like a nice change this one. I'd like to do more coastal camps but it's a bit of a trek for me unfortunately. Have good weekend, Chris
That was a different one Chris. I enjoyed seeing the Church remains and lighthouse. Being chased by Jellyfish on a wild camp, a d I thought I'd see it all. Good one mate 👍
Cheers Steve. I've considered Spurn too but I go a fair bit in a birding capacity and it is always very busy these days, even early and late on. I wonder if the new, swanky visitor centre has attracted more folk?
You've hit the nail on the head Dave. All this camping and other stuff is a hark back to when we were lads I think. It's good to stay connected to those days 🙂. Hope you are well pal.
That is one of the best videos of yours. I thoroughly enjoyed it! It's strangely coincidental as I've been looking at a couple of coastal camps recently. If you are happy in a hammock or a bivvy bag, I can highly recommend spending a night around Arnside or Sunderland Point, or there's the cheeky spot up at Heysham with "those" graves. 😊 I have a plan to get up onto Holy Island soon, but I am waiting for a companion to sort his s**t out. 😂😂😂
Thanks pal. Living where I do, Anglesey is probably my nearest decent coastline (maybe the Yorkshire coast too). I do like the Arnside area and of course Sunderland Point is ace, a sneaky one there would be good. Especially with the stories associated with the place. Have a good one on Holy Island, another great place. 👌
Cheers Dave. You ever fancied any coastal camps up in say Northumberland, etc? Holy Island would be good if you could be sneaky and pull it off. ATB, Chris
Llanddwyn Island is one of those places I always enjoy going back to (first visit when I was ten years old). Of course it's so much busier these days - I suppose the access road that now exists is responsible for that. Even so, it's still a good day out, and gets quieter and less crowded the further away from the carpark you go. Thanks.
An interesting little escape, Chris. I always think the changing weather on the coast is like being I'm the mountains. The unpredictable weather, I guess ! I've not been fishing for a long time, always plenty to be doing sea fishing . I saw my first green flash, a couple of years ago when the sun went down . Did you see one ? Looks like you had a good summer. 😀
Thanks Grant. I wish I lived nearer the sea, I'd definitely fish more. I have seen the green flash, the last time on a night on Kinder a few years ago. I tried to catch it on camera but it didn't seem to capture it.
Thanks Chris that was a very timely video, just a lovely looking place and I wouldn't recommend getting a jellyfish sting, not nice! Great video, really enjoyed it.
Hello Escelle and thank you. It's a pretty cool place. Yes, not one of my brightest suggestion re the jelly-fish sting. I'm genuinely curious though as to how it compares to a wasp sting. I guess it depends on the species of jelly-fish. 🙂
@@ChrisJB Oh they look pretty, but they wrap their "trailing" stringy bits around you and my goodness it can make grown men scream. Even when they're washed up on the beach got to keep everyone (especially the dog) away from them, they can still get you. Nature is amazing, but I don't know why bluebottles exist......
Hi Chris, looked like a good trip, only been to Anglesey once many years ago with work, went round 5th gear test track in Formula Fords, got a bollocking for over taking where I shouldn’t have, it’s a nice place, would love a wild camp on a beach if no one was going to be there 😅 well done for getting out, btw fishing, tried it but spend more time tangled that I do catching, as frustrating as golf Take care pal 👍
Hello Tito. I'd do more coastal camps if it wasn't such a trek for me to get there. The Pennines are much closer to hand. I used to fish a lot as a lad with my mates but it's very infrequent nowadays. Again, if I lived a bit nearer the sea, I might do more of it. A few of my mates play golf and I tried it but never got into it. What is interesting is the change in personalities of my golfing pals when they are on a course. In the normal world they are chilled, jokey, good lads, whereas as soon as they set foot on the links, they get all serious and their senses of humour goes right out the window. 🤔 ATB pal, Chris
@@ChrisJB haha very true, golf does that to people, having said that when your playing well it’s the best game in the world, distance stops a lot of things, I’d be chasing munros if they nearer, still tempted to knock all the skye ones off so it opens the door if I retire soon enough and still have the energy I might still manage them, need to loose some timber first though 🙃
I was rooting for you to hook into a nice Bass!, but that's fishing... great to see you doing a bit of splodging though. Would be nice to see you take the rod out again sometime.
How do John. Yes, it was frustrating. I don't get to fish very often so it's disappointing when I blank. I still find it very relaxing though, fish or no fish.🙂
After my last visit I did the research I should have done before going and learned that there are drop stones visible in that crag near the ruined church. I was hoping you were going to show me them so you’ve let me down! Only kidding. Another thoroughly enjoyable video.
I watched with my wife and she asked why you had red shorts on. I said they were to keep bears away, and after watching all the way through, we didn't see a single bear... Keep up the good work fella! 🙂
Deffo Craig. The tent inner got turned inside out when I got back home but I'm sure ther'll still be enough to build a sand-castle next time I'm out. 🙂
Godd knowledge of the natural world, but your Welsh pronounciations let you down. Plenty of materials on You Tube to help you pronounce, its easier than one may think.
Hailing from Lancashire, my English pronunciations let me down too 😉. I have mastered 'Bannau Brycheiniog' and hope I get to demonstrate should I ever visit. ATB, Chris
