I absolutely love swimming and this year, with nearly all the pools closed I've been swimming more than ever in rivers, pools and the sea. In this video my friend Laura and I packed up our mountain bikes for a quick overnighter on Dartmoor, the only place in England where wild camping is permitted and one of the best places in the UK for wild swimming. After swimming in a couple of rivers we camped out overnight then rode the Granite Way and Drake's Trail back to Plymouth for a dip in the sea at the Hoe.
A note on wild camping in Dartmoor: There is currently a ban on camping at Bellever. Please check the map to see where is and where isn't permitted.
Be respectful of this beautiful landscape.
Be careful as areas of Dartmoor are used by the military for live firing and there are dangerous bogs. Only light fires where it's permitted.
Take all your rubbish home with you.
Be a nice person.

Yes, I agree totally! I'm recovering from a 2nd cardiac arrest(and near death experience) from Sudden Death Syndrome and I'm really missing my cycling at the moment!! Some valuable lessons...live in the NOW, celebrate every second of your life because life is precious!! Be kind, compassionate, caring and be a loving influence in the Universe. Great vid. Love the cycling with all the fantastic scenery. Also washboard stomachs with swimming... lovely! That water must have been cold, I thought when Laura got out of that tent she was going to take someone's eye out.

A friend and I did a also a bike packing tour along the coastside of the UK. Started in Dover and ended at dartmoor national park. We Crossed the NP from south/ ivy bridge back to Exeter... Just beautiful landscapes! Greetings from GER..

Fantastic stuff Juliet!! No need to apologise for the video NOT be racey - it all looked great fun and important to just relax and have fun on your bike rather than always hard-core. Thank for these types of videos. I live 5K miles away, miss so much of the England since I have been away. I remember being on holiday in Dawlish, see people swimming in the river dart. I was just a kid at the time. Bivy camping is the best.

I grew up in Cape Town, South Africa and have lived in London for 27 years now. The heat in the UK is a killer compared to Cape Town. The main reason is the air here is so dry and there is never any sort of breeze when it is hot.

There are 11 or 15 lakes within my city limits and probably another 20 within 25 km radius from my home, I hardly ever don't go swimming during summer rides. Great vid. Stay hydrated!

This video was great and the food adventure was a blast. Those freeze dried meals are good for 20 years or so. No worries. I didn't see the negative comments people referenced but the internet is full of bullies and people who are malcontents. Ignore them and keep having fun!

The dinner one was fine but I had to spit the breakfast one out, it had powdered milk in it and had definitely gone off!

@@JulietElliottsChannel ah, I missed that. Yuk. I know mountain house list theirs at a 20 or 25 year shelf life. Many of which have dairy. Due to some dietary issues, I actually make my own meals from freeze dried meat, spray dried eggs and dried vegetables. It's about 1/3-1/2 the price, takes up less space and I control all the ingredients. Case in point, my omelet contains... Eggs (just spray dried whole eggs), dried peppers, dried onions, cheese (via powdered cheese, just cheese), powdered cream (just cream) and powdered butter (just butter). The cost of similar limited ingredient pre-made is really exorbitant. It did take a little trial and error in the kitchen to make them but they work great. I make a similar limited ingredient fajita bowl. However, I don't think they'd be shelf stable for more than a year or two. There are no preservatives.
