The guide taking is through the series is muy simpatico in other words not a pretentious person. Charlie Ottley takes us deep into the breath-taking but little known mountains and forests of Carpathia: Transylvania. Charlie provides a unique insight into the scenic beauty and rich culture of the region. He even speaks with HRH Prince Charles (well, he was not yet King at the time of filming this documentary) Apparently, HRH has ancestors from the area and he speaks about the importance of this part of the world. Quite informative and I hate to say it but he’s right actually. Wild Carpathia is definitely going into my top ten nature docs of 2022. Enjoy

Dracula was not a count, he was a boyar by birth and Prince by election, the ruler of Walachia. In Transylvania he only was as a refugee when a conspiracy of Walachian aristocrats with the help on the Ottomans deposed him from power. But he returned to the throne later and took revenge. Castle Bran (Törzburg) was built by Saxons, just like the fortified village church of Viscri/Weißkirch. Dracula never owned that castle, it is only rumored that he stayed there for a night during his escape from Walachia, since Bran was the border castle on the Transylvanian side of the Carpathians.

Shout out to the European Union, for all the support we received, for preserving the natural beauties of Romania! From funds, to laws that are helping us in the last few years. There is still a lot of wirk to do, and we must teach the civil society to put presure on our government for more reforms. But joining the EU was one of the best thing for our wild nature❤

What a beautiful place, so sad to see the threats of capitalism rolling in. Anyone here watching this still think the EU cares about nature? Motorways, ‘Development,’ farming subsidies only for large farms? Pesticides allowed to be sold to Africa that are banned in the EU - the EU is a monster

EU has a huge role in the preservation of romanian nature, we received funds from eu to protect the bears, birds, natural reservations and historical buildings. Whitout these funds, their population would be decimated, because romanians are still raising lots of animals, and lots of sheeps and goats in the mountain area, and the bears are eating their animals, and attacking them even in their villages, and cities. Before us being in the EU, if peasants had to choose between their livestock and bears, the bears had to go, zero negotiations. Eu is enforcing laws to preserve nature while in the same time, giving us funds to create natural bariers, between bears and communities. We were able to win many trials against corporations that were exploiting natural areas, simply because the EU was funding us, and created strong laws, that helped our cause.I work with 2 ONG, for almost 20 years, and i can tell you for sure, that if romania did not had the oportunity to join the EU, this documentary would not exist. To say that the EU is a monster, it's at least ignorant, if not worse.
@bccochrane1
@bccochrane1 5 месяцев назад
@@AquaTofana. Really? Did you watch this? I’m glad to hear that the eu is doing something for nature (for positive headlines) but what about the subsidies only for large farmers? This encourages mono-crops and degradation of land and biodiversity. There was a small charity in Bulgaria that cared for wildlife and each year they would receive a small amount from the eu. When the eu wanted to fund a large road right through the area (ancient forest) with many endangered species the charity quite rightly campaigned against it. The eu of course won, the road was built and the charity had the eu funds stopped. There are many other incidents of mafia hounding small farmers of their land where they’ve lived for generations because they want the land for mono crops to get eu subsidies. What does the eu do about this…….nothing
@AquaTofana.
@AquaTofana. 5 месяцев назад
@@bccochrane1 i know countless similar stories here in romania, but as with anything, if the civil society is complacent, nobody ever did, nor will ever do anything, for anybody. that's human nature, we are both good and wicked, and that pattern can be found from the very small levels, as parents that are abusing or even killing their children, to those that are taking care, and protect, children that are not even their own. and that goes on to all levels. police, governments, hunters, priests, and all affairs which involve people. we have the responsability to get involved in public affairs, to ask for reforms, and so on. that doesn't mean that EU is a monster. we are all monsters and saints in the same package, and everything good that ever happened, was because people cared, and got involved. and nothing ever dropped on us out of nowhere, as rights and freedoms.
