Wild Fishing Scotland for BROWN TROUT

In this episode I head to the mountains fly fishing in the Highlands of Scotland for trout on my tiny inflatable Belly Boat. It was still early in the trout season very cold with snow still on the mountain tops. The water was freezing but the trout were willing to take the fly and loads of them. Thanks Richard, it’s been a tough winter and start to spring, this was my 4th trip to the highlands this year. Once on the bank and 3 times on the float tube. Hopefully more to come mate if the weather gets better. I think we’re all struggling to cast a line in recent months. Thanks for the support

Good video mate. Hilland trout always dark must be the peat lol great surroundings mate you always share your methods and tackle and that's why people learn don't think it's a book now it's RU-vid or Google the information gets out what your interested in. Thanks again mate .

A lot of the wee hill lochans need the fish thinned out a bit to let the remainers grow bigger.

I really, really hope you are either thoroughly cleaning that float tube before you go between waters or have a seperate float tube only for hill lochs. Our hill lochs are the last great wild areas for our native fish, the brown trout, and highly sensitive to bio-security issues.

@mattwright2964 absolutely!! it’s very important to protect our wild waters around the country. Anglers should do everything in their power to protect what we have, like washing all our equipment that’s been in contact with the water and substrate, especially if you intend to fish other waters. You only have to look at the River Clyde where the aquatic life is being destroyed by crayfish. Many anglers are oblivious of the direct impact they have on potentially spreading contamination from one water to the next or they just don’t care.

Thanks for commenting buddy. The bibio on the top dropper always performs well there but I’m finding it hard not to have the Dunkeld on the cast.

Lovely video, reminding me I really need to get out again! Did you haul the belly boat round the loch on your back or settle in for a longish paddle? Never used one myself so I'm not sure how they perform in flipper mode🙂 Cheers, Doug

Hi Doug, thanks for commenting. My belly boat is not the lightest bit of kit so it was a short walk and a long paddle. Fortunately I have oars on my model which makes it a lot easier to get about rather than just using the fins. I am looking forward to some settled weather tho. Tight lines on your next adventure, I look forward to your next video.

Cheers Adrian, wychwood gorge waders. thermal lined trousers, merino wool socks, neoprene socks. Neoprene diving booties, Feet still get a bit cold after a few hours tho😳

Totally off subject to the video mate but do you know if there would be any point fishing gourock at this time of year meant to be heading down tomorrow and thought you would be a good person to ask

No worries mate, there will probably be codling and other small species about Alexander, I don’t think there will be mackerel about the now it’s a bit early.

Excellent I don't think I've ever seen a double hook on on fly fishing I have caught 2 trotting with a kinda w hook flapper floating rig. Excellent place to fish man beautiful country and theirs gold in them there hills..!!!

Cheers Robbie, I can’t remember ever having a double hookup on the fly but to be fair I use to only use 1 fly 2 at a push. I’ve felt My casting has improved over the last few months, which has given me the confidence to fish a team of 3 flies. That was the 3rd double I’ve had in 4 trips this year.
